Dental One Associates of Toco Hills

I have been going to this dental practice for about 3 years and, I must say, the service has declined significantly over this time. The wait is always long, regardless of your appointment time. If you need to call them to schedule (or cancel — in my case) and appointment, good luck getting someone to pick up the phone. I have called everyday, a few times per day, for a period of two weeks to reschedule a cleaning appointment and NEVER got anyone to pick up the phone. I called during normal office hours and at different times of the day too, so it just doesn’t make any sense why a legitimate dental office would just NEVER pick up the phone… I left 3 messages and never go a call back either. Needless to say, I will NOT be coming back to this practice!!!

I had to get a few fillings done and after that experience I will never go back. Dr. DeAngelis is very friendly and nice but my fillings were done so horribly! The composite material was all over the side of my teeth when I left and even some was on my tongue. My teeth were also a bit «glued together» from the filling getting everywhere. Not to mention my teeth were SHARP and uneven. I literally cut my tongue on my tooth because it was drilled so unevenly and then filled. I called them back because after the numbness wore off, I realized I couldn’t even chew properly because my bite was so uneven. I had to come back that same day and get more of my tooth shaved off. My teeth are still a bit sharp and uneven.
I also had a tooth that was really hurting and she suspected that it might need a root canal. Instead of immediately referring me to an endodontist, she filled it with the composite material hoping that it would fix the problem (meaning I had to pay for the filling in that tooth). In the end it didn’t help at all and I still had to go get a root canal somewhere else and that useless filling was taken out (along with my money).
Save your teeth and your money by going somewhere else!

So in my previous review I said I’d never be back. I had actually scheduled my next cleaning appointment when I was here last, so when it came up, I thought I’d go in for a cleaning, what could go wrong with a simple cleaning. Everything if you come here!
First, my appointment card said my appointment was at four but the confirmation text I got said 3:30. I called to confirm that my confirmation was correct. You have to with this place.
I get in there and am told I need more x-​rays. So I go ahead. I sit down, open up, and she begins to measure my gums. I look at the wall and see an advertisement for the procedure they are doing on me. In the same spot the ad for the fluoride treatment they got me for last time was in. She then tells me they need to schedule a two appointment deep cleaning. But they’ll have the dr confirm.
Third…the dr waddled in and withing 3 mins confirms I need this treatment and a filling because he saw a shadow.
The hygienist asks if I’d like to go ahead and do my x-​rays for the procedure. No… no I do not think I need a fourth set of x-​rays this year. I also do not think I need a deep cleaning or a filling. I’ll let my next dentist who’s opinion I will most likely value determine that.
So…I say okay thank you… go to check out and let them know I will not be scheduling anything. She didn’t even question me. I’m certain there are a few good folks in the bunch there.

I must start off by saying Dr. DeAngelis is awesome. Too bad she works here! They have made far too many errors for me to return. Mistake #1: Was getting a deep cleaning (2^nd visit) and the girl did not read my chart and without uttering a word to me, calls this not so nice person in and he just says open your mouth and gives me a shot. He was very rough and caused a lot of pain. The 1^st visit I had OraKicks and the assistant talked to me nicely and explained things to me. When I asked why I was not able to get the OraKicks on my 2^nd visit, I was simply told I didn’t read your chart! What if I had an allergy? She really could kill someone because she was too lazy to read the chart!!! Mistake #2: I was having a crown done and I had to go in for a 2^nd impression. I understand mistakes like that can happen so I just kind of blew it off. Mistake #3: Today’s visit, or waste of my time… appointment time was 9:30am. I arrived at 9:25am. The lady at the front desk was on phone and no one acknowledged me (they never acknowledge anyone unless the person taps on the window or stands there and stares at them). I signed in and sat down directly in front of the window. At 10am I went back to the window to ask why I have not been called back. It was discovered that someone put a new sheet on top of the first sheet and she didn’t check it. She said she would try to get me back there by 10:30am. I explained that I had to be at work by noon. At 10:20 I was called back to the window only to be told that I would not be able to see anyone at 10:30 and was asked if they could get me out by 11:30 would that be ok? I don’t work across the street and my time is valuable. I simply walked out without saying a word. While the lady was nice about it, it still does not make up for the fact that you have wasted my time. Time is money for me just as it is for them. I’m just done with this office because there have been too many errors and I’m sorry just saying, «I messed up» doesn’t make up for it.

I’m not a fan. Why? Take a seat and let me explain, eager reader. Like many dentists and dental offices, they constantly tried to upsell me on other treatments. This is common and not surprising, but still somewhat irritating. The real problem is that the office drug its heels for weeks while I awaited confirmation as to whether or not they could put a crown on my new implant. Ultimately they said no because their corporate office denied them. Apparently they wouldn’t approve the purchase of the non-​specific «parts» they needed to do this. I went to my family’s dentist in Nashville who completed the procedure in 2 weeks (he took a mold of my teeth, shipped it out to be created, and then attached it to my implant). He admitted that he had to order parts, but that was part of the job. Ultimately this experience taught me that patients should not choose corporate dental offices like Dental One. All dentists worry about the bottom line, but entities like Dental One do not seem to care as much about patient care as your local sole proprietor. I’m not someone who naturally feels animosity toward large companies — I happily work with many in my job — but when it comes to dental care I will avoid them in the future.

I have finally given up on Dental One of Toco Hills. I’ve just had too many problems with them. First, a dentist did a crown that was not very good. Dr. DeAngeles replaced the crown free of charge, but I had to endure the extra dental work. My main problem with them, however, is their office staff. After a cleaning visit, they failed to submit my bill to my insurance company. Then they started sending me collection notices. I even had my insurance company call them and ask for the bill. I continued to receive overdue notices. When I tried to call their billing staff, the receptionist would only take a message and tell me they would call in 24 hours. But they would never call! I left several messages. Finally, my insurance agent figured out that they were billing with an incorrect group number, and the bill was paid. I was so annoyed, I cancelled my next appointment. They called me then and asked me reschedule so I did. Well, after my latest cleaning visit, I received a notice from my insurance company that made me think that there was a problem with my bill. I’ve been trying to call them for two weeks, with the same problem. The receptionist says they will return my call in 24 hours but they don’t. I understand that their billing clerk has a family issue and is out right now, but I don’t understand why they keep telling me for two weeks that they will have someone else call, and no one ever does.
PS The manager finally called! And it only took two weeks!

I have had good experiences with this dental group and Dr. D. The hygienist, Wan, is excellent. I rarely wait long and am in and out pretty quickly for a cleaning.

Worst dentist I have ever been to. They are definitely all about making money and do not care about their patients.

The 570 reviews online via Google were mostly 4 – 5 stars, so I am surprised to see that many of these reviews are low. I had a wonderful experience here. I had to schedule an appointment for an emergency filling when an old one popped out. They were able to squeeze me in the following morning. I’m a patient from out-​of-​state, so I decided to come to Dental One Associates in Toco Hills particularly due to location convenience.
The receptionist told me she couldn’t guarantee a filling on my first visit; I would have to be seen as a consult and taken in for a general exam/​x-​rays first. Perhaps I could come in the following day to receive the treatment. I was a little disappointed, but Dr. DeAngelis was truly awesome and ready-​to-​go the same day. She was so focused, quick, & extremely efficient; I had no pain or discomfort whatsoever. You can definitely tell she received amazing training. I thought she was a pretty serious person during the procedure, but as I said, she is very focused on her work. At the end, she even gave me a hug! It took me longer to confirm my dental insurance, fill out my paper work and get my x-​rays compared to getting a filling, which only took about 20 minutes. I was in and out after 1 hour.
I wasn’t talked into unnecessary procedures, and I had to sign a receipt before going through with any of the treatments listed. My insurance was able to pay for 80% of the cost (thank goodness).

Too many bad review should tell you something about this place!!! most of the review are things I truly experience in this office, the culture of the office is to get the most out of patients… Please read all reviews before scheduling a visit.
This office will milk you for every penny you have got, they will try to talk to you on doing unnecessary procedures, I was having pain in my teeth and made an appointment to have a filling, then after showing up they did an X-​ray and was told I need a filling!!! I replied I KNOW and that is why I am here, they stated your appointment was an emergency appointment and we will not be able to do anything to you at this time YOU HAVE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. I initially called the office to make an appointment not an emergency appointment and I don’t care what they call the damn appointment, just wanted get the work done, beside I wasn’t told that I am having an emergency appointment to begin with.
After my first visit Dr. De Angelo noted my file that i need Gum-​deep tissue cleaning (expensive/​unnecessary in my case according to 4 other dentists!!!) since then I can never do just a regular cleaning at this office because of the dentist wanted me to do this first.
I forgot to mention that they did a full mouth X-​ray on my first appointment and charged my for it because insurance only cover’s it ones every 5 years, without asking me if I had X-​rays, even better I was never told that what I just did was a full month X-​ray, I found out after I received the bill.
Just an advise go to a different office because this is just a commercial business that will find away or another to make money… Good luck.

I previously gave them 2 stars because the actual dentist was not the person who chipped by front tooth (it was the dental hygienist who chipped it). But after receiving a bill for an office visit (for the visit to fix my tooth that was chipped in their office), it’s back to 1 star. It was only a $ 5 bill, but seriously talk about adding insult to injury! I have a chip in my FRONT tooth that I will never be able to keep fixed, and they wanted me to explain why I thought it was inappropriate that I would even receive a bill. Seriously, wouldn’t they just want me to forget about them at this point?!! I really had to fight to get the charge removed, and they acted like I was being completely ridiculous. And guess what, still no apology for the permanent damage to my teeth. Stay far, far away!

I try to get my teeth cleaned every 3 months so I booked a appointment for a CLEANING ONLY and was able to visit the same week. I reconfirmed this with the hygienist several times but she kept going back to the dentist to get his OK. I already explained to her that I am seeing a different primary dentist now and had an appointment scheduled in April for a check-​up. Then after the cleaning the dentist (Dr Jewett) approaches me and asks why I’m seeing another dentist and tells me how hard it is to coordinate my care… bla bla bla… I chose not to explain why I was going to another dentist other than location (which is only half the story) and then Dr Jewett says I should be DISMISSED from their practice for visiting another dentist (my emphasis). Huh? Fine. Won’t be back. Eagerly awaiting my DISMISSAL letter.
But the other half of the story… I stopped going here after 3 – 4 years because I got tired of arguing with Dr DeAngelis about headaches while eating caused by a bite problem from a poor fitting crown. She thought I was grinding my teeth at night but didn’t seem to listen when I said it only happens when EATING. She sent me to a TMJ specialist ($ 200, not covered by insurance) and later an ENT doctor ($ 300 co pay with my health plan). So I opted to go to a different dentist who correctly diagnosed a misaligned bite and fixed the problem in 10 mins!
Also, the 4 crowns I got here were all pretty shabby with gaps between the gumlines and metal showing through the bottom of some of the crowns. Got another crown at the new dentist and it looks amazing and fits perfect.
2 stars is generous, but most of the hygienists do a thorough job and it’s pretty easy to get appointments in a timely manner.
But the 2 dentists I’ve dealt with seem to be more interesting in arguing than solving dental problems. If your teeth are in good shape and you just need a cleaning and 2 minute checkup now and then, then nothing wrong here. But if you need more than that, go elsewhere.

I’ve been to the Dental One Associates on North Druid Hills 3 or 4 times because it was near my house, but I’ve dreaded it ever since the first time. As other reviewers have mentioned, I too had been prescribed pre-​emptive fillings and unnecessary procedures in past visits, but just declined them. On my most recent (and last) visit, I scheduled a cleaning online. (I will say, online booking is a nice feature, and they seem technologically up-​to-​date with text messaging confirmations & reminders, but that will be the last of the current technology you see).
The office is in a somewhat run down shopping center next to LA Fitness on the corner of North Druid Hills & Briarcliff. Once inside, the waiting room is par for the course, but all of the décor and the equipment in the patient rooms seem to be fresh out of the 80s (and not in a hipster /​retro kind of way).
On this visit, I arrived prior to my appointment and was taken to a room fairly promptly. Once in the chair, I had someone come in & take x-​rays. She left & I waited a few minutes before the next lady came in and told me I needed to change rooms. So, we went to another room (significantly less comfortable than the previous chair I was in) and the hygienist took measurements of my gums. Without saying anything, she left for some time while I just sat there. Several minutes later, another lady came in asking about my insurance, so I gave her my card.
I continued to wait a few more minutes until the hygienist returned and apologized for disappearing, but she then began to tell me based on my gum measurements and staining (my bad – I drink 3 – 5 cups of hot green tea every day and hadn’t been back for a cleaning for a while b/​c I despise this place), she thought I would need some extra cleaning (aka «upsell» to a more expensive service) and that they did not have time to do that today, so I would need to be rescheduled. The actual Dentist came in & poked around for approximately 15 seconds and apparently concurred.
When I asked why this couldn’t be performed today, I was told that they break from 1−2pm (it was approaching 1). When I asked if I could just get the «regular» cleaning I had scheduled and come back for any «extra» work, I was turned down on the basis that the hygienist wanted to perform a «good job.» When I told them I was dissatisfied with their customer service, wondered why they couldn’t do what I was scheduled to have done and posed the question, «which is worse… a „regular“ cleaning or no cleaning at all?» they couldn’t answer, so I walked out.
I’m done with this business, and would recommend finding somewhere else to go.

I found Dental One Associates because I finally moved to Atlanta full time (no going back and forth between here and St. Louis for university breaks) and needed one closer than 600 miles away.
To my delight, my dentist Dr. DeAngelis, is an Emory alum (both undergrad and the dental program) like me, so we bonded pretty quickly over that shared quality on my new patient exam.
Everyone on the staff I’ve had the opportunity to interact with has been great: very friendly, talkative, and good at what they do. My hygienist is Donna, and she’s super: she’s quick at cleaning my teeth while still doing a thorough job while telling me about her life and family at the same time. Very good bed-​side manner. Dr. DeAngelis is equally great examining my teeth, answering any questions I might have and telling me to come by anytime before my next appointment if something’s amiss.
I’ve had a very positive first few experiences with Dental One Associates, and I expect nothing less in the future. I’d certainly recommend them to anyone looking for a new dentist in the Decatur area.

I am very disappointed with Dental One. I have been going to Dental One for over 6 years and will not return. I went to my appointment and waited for over 30 minutes in the waiting room that felt like a sauna (no joke) it must have been 90 degrees. After waiting for over 30 minutes (with an appointment that I had for 6 months) I went to the desk and asked why I had not been called back? No one seemed to know? I had 4 different text messages confirming my appointment? Three people working at the desk no one seemed to know what was going on. There was very poor customer service. I ended up leaving and will not return. I would not recommend Dental One. I am looking for a good dentist office that cares about there patients and cares about customer service. Sorry Dental One but a big two thumbs down.

This is the most unprofessional medical service facility I’ve ever had the displeasure of visiting. I was roped in by positive reviews online (not Unilocal), which I should have (and didnt) investigated more carefully — they were all obviously written in the same tone, most likely by the proprietors of this «dental facility».
After a 3 minute assembly line like evaluation I was told I would have my gums probed. I was recommended to have scaling in my whole mouth (leaving my teeth extra sensitive for my lifetime) and have all of my molars filled. A random extraction was recommended.
No explanation was given except «this is what the doctor recommends». Well that’s nice. I got some other opinions and understood I was being taken… I then learned (as many know) that it is common for some of these tooth shops to prescribe unnecessary procedures.
STAY AWAY!

I have been going to this dentist for about a year now and have always had a very good experience. So far I have only had teeth cleanings and my hygienist has been very nice (Donna) and she does a very professional and thorough job. I can’t say much about the prices since my insurance covers everything.
