Oh boy — this is a hard one.
I think the low overall rating for this property has more to do with factors outside the hotels control so I’m going to try to focus on what they can control.
My room was great — there are some complaints here about really wrecked rooms but mine appeared to be very newly renovated (#1402) so that was nice. Overall cleanliness was above average — bathroom and bedroom were clean but there was some soda (god, I hope it was soda) spray on the vinyl footstool that hadn’t been wiped. Wifi is free and hit or miss — sometimes it worked for me, sometimes not. I seemed to get a better connection in the «living room» area. Breakfast is free and is the standard Fairfield set up.
The staff is honestly great — super welcoming and happy to do what they can to make sure you’re happy. The elevator situation is not great — it’s an old building and they are glacially, horribly slow — but what can you do? I didn’t hear too much noise from the hall or other rooms which is appreciated.
Now — on to things that are generally not within the hotel’s control but impact your stay nonetheless. It’s noisy as hell outside — there is a train nearby that sounds it’s horn frequently and LOUDLY during the night. There’s a fair amount of city noise but that’s the price you pay for staying downtown, right?
I picked this hotel because it was walking distance to my conference and because I’m a loyal Marriott person, but the reality is that a solo woman really shouldn’t be walking around the immediate area alone — period. You’re not going to get killed but you will be catcalled, harassed and aggressively panhandled. It’s unfortunate because just a few blocks away, it’s completely fine. Still, the hotel offers a shuttle (within a 2 mile radius) and I was advised to use it. There is security at the front door and yes, you do need to use your keycard at most times of the day and night to enter.
Would I stay again? That’s a tough one — I had no real issues with the property itself (I’ve stayed in much worse Fairfields in far better areas) but the personal security factor is a real issue.

I have stayed here twice now. Once for the Hot Chocolate Run at Turner. Also for a concert at Ga Dome. Both times horrible. Marriott needs to invest in this hotel or sell it. On arrival only one elevator was working out of three. Then the last one quit. We were on the 17^th floor. Had to use the stairs. Not fun. People and rooms are nice. Only saving grace. Located by Marta and Underground. Not the best part of town. Valet parking only. Lobby was freezing cold on this January day. Thermostat in the room was inaccurate. Had to set to 83 to get temperature to an actual 70 – 72. Noisy neighborhood and car and truck sounds from Peachtree Street came through the window all night. Bed was comfortable but it was still hard to sleep.

The staff at this place are its saving grace. The building is run down and old and not in a safe part of town. To and from MARTA are about as much as you want to walk in this area.
The hot breakfast is great and the staff in morning sing to you! They’re creative and wonderful ladies, really enjoyed waking up like that haha!
The beds are like marshmallows OMG my back! It literally felt like it was 30+ years old, so terrible. All the linens were clean as was the room overall, the carpets old but not in terrible shape.
Convenient to MARTA and also offers shuttle service in the area. Just a little bit of updating into this place and it would offset the neighborhood it’s in and be pretty decent.

We came with a very large group of high school kids, about 230. They were super nice and well prepared for us. There are only two elevators so getting everyone upstairs was a hard task. Everyone was patience but the elevators are really slow. We ended up taking the stairs to floors 1 – 7. The lobby is small and the hotel is narrow so not a lot of room to move around. The breakfast was good: fruit, bagels, cereal, waffles, etc. The best part of this hotel were the large rooms. Each room has a sitting area separate from the bed. There were two TV’s in our room. The hotel is not in a great area of town so even though they had great customer service and the rooms were nice, I would not stay in this area again. Too many people walking around outside begging for things and making you feel uncomfortable.

Scariest place I have ever stayed. I was in fear for my life at night, and little did I know the mornings were no better. I was there with a work group, it was selected for us and every single one of us complained to our travel arranger. This is NOT safe. It is NOT secure. Valet parking saved us, we parked within three steps of the door. HOWEVER, waiting for your car in the morning was ridiculous. Give at least 30 minutes notice, IF you stay here, but I would NOT.
The staff was wonderful, each person was very friendly and accommodating, and could not have been nicer. The valet did a nice job, very friendly, but there were only one or two in the mornings, and about four at night.
Lots of drugs and drunks roaming around and they were NOT shy. You need a key to enter the hotel, so again, IF you stay, have the key ready at all times.

This hotel is not in the best area of town. I did not feel comfortable walking around at night. However, the staff was spectacular. I can’t say enough good things about the staff… vallet, housekeeping, and front desk. The breakfast ladies went over and beyond southern hospitality. My only criticism is that the staff needs to have better training in using the wheelchair lift. I was traveling with someone using a wheelchair. She was stuck in the lift numerous times. Personnel did not know how to properly use the key. Sometimes, no one knew who had the key. I gave this hotel 4 stars mainly because of the staff, otherwise, I would have given it only 3 stars.

–pretty run down — my door took a HUGE amount of effort to open or close. (wouldn’t automatically close behind you, which was a little scary that since I didn’t turn around after I walked in and forced it closed, it was actually open for a period of time with out me knowing… not safe) It would not open or close with out a very forceful push or pull. Lobby, elevators etc are all really run down.
–Bad part of town/​lots of hoodlums & misfits around
–Bar/​lounge is a apparently non existent, its listed as being on the 2^nd floor but you go to the 2^nd floor and it doesn’t exist. With all the activity outside at night I didn’t want to leave the hotel to get a drink.
–Staff goofs off a lot and the Valet kind of ignored me a couple times while chatting with his friends/​co-​workers. I stood and waited for someone to acknowledge me, finally the front desk girl came out to ask if I needed my car.
–self park is blocks away, in a bad part of town, and valet is expensive $ 30/​night, showing up at almost midnight the first night I didn’t feel I had a choice to self park. It would not have been safe.
–not enough elevators for the size of the hotel. Breakfast time and check out time its really hard to get into an elevator and it takes FOREVER just for the elevator to get to you. — I waited over 10 minutes.
I’ve stayed at Motel 6 that are nicer & Cheaper.

First, I just want to say the front desk staff have great customer service skills and very friendly, and overall the hotel is nice, great location, and great view. Also, check in was a breeze no long wait or any issues.
My concerns are the following:
1) Extensive Call Hold: When I arrived at the airport I called the hotel to inquire about a shuttle service, but the person who picked up did not greet me they just picked up and asked to place me on hold. Due to my extensive hold I ended up catching the Marta to my hotel.
2) Room Cleanliness: Once I checked into my room I open the room door to find the room had not been properly cleaned. The first thing I noticed opening the door was the the pillow and cushions to the sofa were laying all over the floor, the appliances (coffee maker, cups, ice ben, etc) were not placed neatly on the counter they were all over the place. Also, the cabinets were all open, the refrigerator door was wide open, and the drawers next to the bed were all open; as well as, staff paperwork laying across the bed. To top it off when I went into the bathroom I found pubic hairs on the toilet seat.
3) SHUTTLE ISSUE: No shuttle service to and from hotel. Considering the hotel is pretty much in the middle of the city you would think there would be a shuttle service that picks up and drops off to and from the airport of all places. However, they do have a shuttle service that travels in a four mile radius. In addition; I went to ask the front desk when the next shuttle was arriving and was told the shuttle driver was on break, and that she had no idea when the driver was coming back from break. An hour later I checked back in to find the shuttle driver was still on break, so the front desk calls the driver and does not get a response. So from 1pm to 3pm the shuttle driver was in lunch and could not be reached. Luckily, the Marta is conveniently right across the street from the hotel.

Enjoying the room so far. Awesome front desk and valet service which is my #1 favorite ! 24 hours valet! Free shuttle and Breakfast! Large room with city view, located in the heart of downtown ATL. Extremely close to upscale dining and entertainment !! Only complaint is that I would suggest more AC vents in the room, especially in bedroom since the room is SO large. (Ok air flow)

We stayed for 2 nights, Friday, ⁷⁄₂₄ and Sat, 7÷25÷2015. We arrived around 11pm on the 24^th and had to sit in valet for approximately 15 mins before someone came over to take the car. There were people standing outside drinking and smoking weed which led me to believe there may have been a club or bar nearby, but there was not… these people were just hanging out partying outside the hotel. Strike 1. We finally got someone’s attention from Valet and they helped w/​the luggage and took the car, which I was afraid I’d never see again.
We stayed on the 3^rd floor in a double room which was nice and roomy. We had a pull out couch, 2 tv’s, microwave, fridge, etc. However, the room smelled TERRIBLE! It was a funky, musty type smell that never went away. Since it was late and the room was clean, we decided to just deal with it.
The next morning we decided to walk to our destination and that was a HUGE mistake! It was around 10:30am and there were SO MANY homeless people around and people preaching on the streets and just looking like they wanted to kill you. It was really scary and this was in the morning. At that moment I decided we would not be walking around anymore. Luckily, the MARTA was directly across from the hotel so we only needed to cross the street to get back to the hotel.
Breakfast every morning was good. I do agree the layout is somewhat awkward and not mob friendly. The ladies that run breakfast are great.
The day we left we had to wait through 6 songs (playing in the hotel overhead) for a down elevator that actually had room for us to get into. I believe about 10 stopped on our floor that we couldn’t get into. We finally asked someone to send the elevator to us in hopes we could finally get one to go down in.
The worst part was when we picked up our car from Valet both seats (driver and passenger) had been readjusted, the radio station had been changed to one we do not listen to and the large umbrella that was closed in our backseat was now in the back and open/​unsecured. I wish I would have documented the mileage on the car when I dropped it off b/​c I’m positive it had been driven while in valet.
In the end, I was just happy to have the car and our lives as we drove out of Atlanta and headed back home.

I was emailed 8 days before checkin that my reservations (2), which were made approximately 1 year in advance, were being moved to a Marriott 14 miles away, because of overbooking. So now my family is split between 2 hotels. I am a longtime Marriott Rewards member (257 nights). Time to find another hotel brand that cares about its members. Should be zero stars!!!

Brought a group of 80 children and adults to Atlanta. Very large suite rooms, large breakfast area, and great central location right at Underground. Any small deficiencies were more than made up for by the INCREDIBLY welcoming and professional staff. Breakfast was hot, tasty and well stocked, and the two ladies running it made us feel like we were welcome guests in their home. Neighborhood is a little sketchy, but in good walking distance to a number of attractions.

Stay away. Gangs brush you as you enter hotel and stand 5 feet from the door. Purple «kool-​aid» crips. Worst neighborhood I have ever been in and called Marriott to let them know. They refunded my 25,000 PTA to stay at this dump. Place was filthy also.

We stayed 2 nights April 9 – 10 at this location. While I gave it 1 star, that is because I was thankful we made it out alive and so did our vehicle. This was our first visit to ATL and we were there to take care of business at the Passport office at 8am. It was a .6 mile walk which is why we picked it, but didn’t realize the .6 mile walk would be a scenic route of homeless folks and drug deals along the way. My fiancé had a nice homeless man walk with him the whole way giving him tips of things to do and not do in the city.
The valet gentlemen were super friendly. Hotel front desks clerks, super friendly… they all deserve 4 stars.
Valet parking is $ 30 a day. Pretty steep, but they know people will pay it. Especially the white peoples because they knew we were scared to pieces. They could charge $ 75 and people will pay it because you’d be crazy to self park 2 blocks down and walk through there especially at night.
Complimentary breakfast was good. Nice options.
The room smelled EWWW gross. The shower had to have the hot water turned up as much as it would go just to get a decent warm shower. That was frustrating.
The toilet started running every 10 minutes and sounded like a airplane was landing in the room. I shut the bathroom to help with that…
Oh and the sink was stopped up. So it was pretty gross brushing your teeth after your fiancé has just shaved his face. It was tiny stubbles and they stayed in the sink the whole 2 nights. It was gross. Nothing would drain.
Housekeeping service never even came the first day. We needed towels. Went to the front desk and they gave us 6 towels. That was nice.
It was the Braves first home game of the season. That explains the super high rate $$$ for each night. It was not worth it. At all. Even if you are a Braves fan.
If you’re going to stay here, you’ll probably be alright and live to tell about it too. I know you can’t control what’s going on in the streets right outside the hotel. But common Marriott. You know better.
And for $ 200+ a night, you’d like to think it was a good place to stay. Marriott needs to come off that, because it’s not such a great place… Unless you’re into drug deals, homeless folks begging you for money and food all in your face… Too dangerous to walk anywhere after dark… Etc. If that’s your thing, you should totally book a room now!
Now I see why people pay $ 500/​night at the Ritz a few blocks down. They keep the riff raff out… Marriott should consider doing the same.
For real.

Nice people but run down poorly maintained building. Dirty walls, broken parts, parched holes I’m the walls, broken elevators, and much much more that’s in desperate need of repairs.
The highlight… Wait for it… A bloody handprint on my bathroom wall between the sink and toilet. Did someone get killed in my room or was it just a dirty tampon.

I have stayed here several times. It is an old building, that has been gutted out and remodeled several times. I like the building because of the design and architecture. I have never stayed in the same floor plan of room twice they are all different.
Best part? The kindest most attentive staff of any Marriott property!!!

I give this place two stars because of the two wonderful people behind the front desk. However valet sent me up the street one block to a pharmacy and I felt like a gang turf war was about to break out. Outside the hotel is not a place for anyone to be at night, I think that’s why valet hides behind a locked door. Very bad neighborhood, the rooms are dated, and we are turning out three night reservation into one so we can move to a safer location.

Was initially wavering between 3 and 4 stars… Ultimately it seemed to be of a lower caliber compared to other «by Marriott» hotels, but I did like this place. Stayed here in May and my double-​bed suite was extremely spacious, with a large window (not much of a view from my room, though). Very modern. My colleague did say his room was not clean, but I did not see problems with mine.
FYI, I ordered food from a restaurant off grubhub one night and the delivery person was allowed to bring it up to my room. So much more convenient than having to go down and retrieve my grub.
Coincidentally, I too found that the front desk wasn’t always attentive/​available, so I have to agree with other reviewers on that.
There’s a security guard outside the door granting entry for guests, I guess because the hotel is located in a supposedly bad area. Free area shuttle, but also walkable to nearby attractions. And I actually sort of liked the free continental breakfast here… Wasn’t too bad!

Sooo… this hotel will either work for you or not depending on the following:
Are you a family on vacay or young (or not so young) adults needing a night away?
Are you comfortable in an inner-​city scene?
Do you mind parking in a garage half a block away?
I know this may seem weird but basically this place may scare you if you’re country or suburban. There is a huge homeless population and even though most homeless people are down on their luck normal folk when you have fifty to sixty hanging out in the surrounding area you’re going to have some bad apples (or really loud abnoxious ones). The police station is next door though and there’s nighttime security but forget about going for a walk at night. I saw rats and an odd confrontation just one block away.
Actual hotel: beautiful disaster. The rooms are cute and somewhat small but very chic. The stairs and halls have been gorgeously painted. Very modern overall with an old school charm. But the breakfast needs some help. Very basic and even then it doesn’t shine. The layout is awful: peak time equals a line bleeding into the elevators! And then the waffle station is at the opposite end of the room; the very small room with no attendant cleaning the tables. I found a dirty one and wiped it off the best I could.
The bathroom was odd because there was no exhaust fan (can you say odor control/​white noise?), the toilet didn’t flush unless you held the handle down and the shower ceiling had cracking paint, just as pictured by another poster here. Yet the contractors who built the darn bathroom never bothered to remove the labels from the fixtures and no one on staff cares enough to take them off. (See pic)
The room seemed to be clean but when we were leaving we found a toe ring on the carpet. None of us wore it in though. Hmm… (See pic)
Cheap stay, but they actually lie to you about parking. It’s advertised and posted as costing $ 8. The garage attendant was fed up because she said they’re wrong for that and they should know better: it costs $ 11, FYI.

This place is a trash hole. Nice-​ish staff.
Not even close to Marriott standards. I can hear the guy next door wheezing and coughing as I write this.
Drive up to the hotel. No valet in sight. Random folks kinda milling around though. Locked car. Walked in. Started dragging suitcase up the STAIRS to get to the lobby and the valet pops out of his hole, «you folks checking in?» No, we’re celebrating Opposite Day.
What is NOT on the website is that you have to valet your car for $ 30 a night. Otherwise the advice is to «find somewhere» to park the car. At this location, the $ 30 charge is a kind of life insurance policy not a valet charge.
Checked in, no acknowledgement of Marriott status. I’m given the opportunity to buy a water.
Went up up up to the room. It was not cleaned [note photo]. Back down via an ancient elevator. «Oops, sorry mister, we gave you the wrong room.» Back up. Room ok. Long in the tooth and thin in the walls. I’m hoping my new wheezy friend next door doesn’t snore.
Down to the second floor hoping to score a free water from the bar. «Oh, we don’t have water here. We don’t have any room for it.» What?!
Back down to the lobby. Grab two waters from the market. Now, the check-​in gal is busy with four dismayed guests. Hey, I know that look!
Wave the bottles at the check-​in gal who gives me the nod.
Now back in the room, hoping that last year’s bedbug epidemic has long since left Atlanta. Hoping…
And, no, I won’t be back.
