Fitness 1440

Jerks! Not only are they closing the place and leaving me short on my prepaid membership but they turned my information over to LA Fitness without my consent… Not legal! Now LA Fitness is spamming me… trying to get me to join.

I’m a man of principle and I am as quick to post a positive review as I am to post one that might be critical. That said, since I am fully aware of the power of social media and the (+ or -) impact it could have on a businesses bottom line then the purpose of this review is to serve as an update of my prior review.
In a nutshell, about a month AFTER the occurrence (and WELL after my initial posting here) the trainer finally apologized for his unprofessional behavior. Though it was lukewarm and half — hearted at best, I accepted the gesture for a number of reasons. (#1) The price simply can’t be beat, (#2) I refuse to be made to feel uncomfortable by anyone’s presence when I visit the gym (#3) The Navy veteran in me and mature mentality I possess will not allow me to be intimidated by ANYONE or fire the gym, move on and spend my $$$ elsewhere (while taking the several referrals I have made who are now paying customers with me in the process). (#5) The entire situation is petty, not that serious and could have been easily de — escalated had it been properly handled in a timely, more expeditious manner.
Moreover, lately the gym has been cleaner and repairs have been made to various equipment.
Barring the episode with the trainer and based on other factors including the facility itself; the low monthly cost, location in relation to my house, state of the equipment, friendliness and professionalism of the management, staff and trainers then Fitness1440 gets 4 stars.

So I am writing a new review because there is a new general manager in charge of this center. It’s early days still, but there has only been one visible change. When you fob in at the front desk a speaker says something like, «Have a good workout.»
The 24 hour door doesn’t work all the time. Sometimes, if you come before or after regular business hours, the door won’t open. The staff has been less than helpful when approached about it, stating: «Yeah, that door is sensitive.»
It’s dirty, much of the equipment is in disrepair and some of the broken equipment isn’t being replaced. On the plus side, it’s cheap (so I guess you get what you pay for) and it’s very close to where I live.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Customer service should be utmost priority at any good gym, but apparently Fitness 1440 couldn’t give a flying f*ck about that. Forget about asking for their free trial, they will only allow you to try the gym for free if you intend on signing a contract afterwards. Free trial, I think not. Secondly, the personal training, which they force down your throat while you are signing up and multiple times per day via email (make sure you give them a throwaway email address by the way) is a S-​C-​A-​M. They force you to sign up for a minimum of 10 sessions, which is no less than $ 350, then when it comes time to schedule your sessions, good luck trying to find an available trainer. If you finally get a trainer, good luck trying to get your trainer to start your 30 minute (more like 15 minute) session on time. The knowledge of the personal trainers are also subpar; I found myself correcting my trainer on simple anatomy any good trainer should be well versed in. In short, you will not be getting your money’s worth. When you finally come to your senses and decide to get a refund of your hard earned money because $ 35 for 15 minute of bullcrap is not worth it, suddenly the employess that can help with the refund are conveniently «off for the day». No one answers the phones or emails, they take down your number and never call your back, and there is no upper management to speak of. You can’t even get in touch with your trainer anymore. I will personally shout out my former POS trainer Todd Alford who is thieveing, deceptive, and incompetent, and avoided returning all my requests for refunds, and «Don», the POS staff member who steals your money without shame, as well as all of the nameless staff members who shamelessly hand off customers to the next person instead of attempring to perform their customer service job.
I quickly cancelled my membership and took the rest as a loss, but be warned, do not sign up with Fitness 1440, you are better off putting all of that money in a pile and setting it on fire. At least the money will be put to better use.

This gym has everything you need. Cardio machines, weights, free weights, and an open training/​stretching area. Locker rooms are not well-​ventilated. After sweating, I do not want to use a stuffy, hot locker room to get ready for work in the mornings! I’ve never used the showers because they don’t look clean enough for me. The locker room is certainly not a dump, but it’s not nicely cleaned either. The lockers are wooden with a piece on it that you can use your own lock with, but some of them don’t work. The staff could be friendlier. They’re not rude, but they’re not nice either. They’re just there. The old manager has left and now there’s a new manager. I’m not sure what’s going on there. Parking is validated up to 2 hours. You have to remember to insert your parking ticket into the validation machine on the front desk. Overall, it’s okay, but not for me.

I am giving Fitness 1440 a 5 star review because of overall total value, not because I think it’s a 5 star facility. I paid $ 299 for 18 months which comes out to about $ 16.61 per month for unlimited 24 hour access. Not a bad deal for a gym in Midtown! Parking in the Colony Square deck is validated for 2 hours.
I have been a member for about a year now and have no regrets. The things that I like best about the gym are its size, layout, and quantity of equipment. The equipment is not the latest and greatest, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. If you want the latest and greatest, then you’ll need to join a more expensive gym which is not worth the money in my opinion. Fitness 1440’s equipment is totally adequate. The gym is bigger than it appears from the outside and is broken out into 3 sections. The large size allows for a TON of equipment and essentially 0 wait to use whatever piece of equipment you desire.
When you first walk in you have your cardio section. There are a TON of ellipticals and treadmills. You will never have to wait for one even at the busiest of times. There are also upright bikes, sit down bikes, and spin bikes, but not as many as the ellipticals and treadmills. Still, I think I’ve had to wait for an upright bike maybe once in the year that I’ve been a member. There is also a stretching area, concept rower, 2 captains chairs, and a small cable machine in the back of the cardio section.
The next room is the circuit/​machine room. All of your standard machines are present and accounted for. There is also a multi-​function crossover cable machine in the back where you can do normal crossover stuff as well as separate areas for rows, pull downs, pull ups, tricep pressdowns, etc. In addition, there are 3 pull up bars affixed to the wall which some people do TRX on.
Next is the weight room. You have to walk outside for 5 steps to get to the weight room in the adjoining building. This is no big deal and I like that the weight room is its own separate area. Like the cardio section, there is a TON of equipment. There are several sets of dumbbells, many benches (adjustable, flat, incline, and decline), another crossover cable machine with pulldown and rowing, a couple of squat racks, ropes, etc. It’s got everything that you need. I like the size of the weight room because you can always find space to do whatever you want to do without feeling cramped.
Other members are respectful and generally keep to themselves. There aren’t that many of your stereotypical annoying, grunting, stare at themselves in the mirror people. I think all fitness levels should feel comfortable here.
The staff is nice enough. They say hello and goodbye to me and gladly answer any questions that I have. That’s all I want/​need. I don’t use a personal trainer, but people who do use them seem happy despite the fact they’re getting their a$$ kicked by their trainer.
My only complaint would be the cleanliness of the shower and toilet area of the men’s locker room. The shower and sink area rarely looks cleaned and the toilet area sometimes smells of urine, but I don’t spend much time in the locker room so its not a big deal for me. Again, for what I’m paying, no big deal.
Anyone else besides me find it interesting that most of the negative reviews are from people who only have 1 or 2 total reviews? I question the validity of those negative reviews.
If you’re debating whether to join or not, I’d recommend you take the plunge. Get fit, stay fit, and #grind.

I really wanted to join this gym for convenience to work but I can’t.
I had told the staff the only reason I could not was the filth of the locker and shower areas. It has not been cleaned besides possibly a broom in over a week.
I have gone back to check a couple times to see if they have cleaned since I told them how nasty it is in there.
Well, the same chunk of wet toilet paper is still stuck in the floor mats outside the showers and the floors are covered in grime. The toilet areas wreak of urine. Obviously no one has cleaned in over a week. That is plain sick.
They claim they have a cleaner that checks those areas every 30 minutes, but that’s all they do is check, no moping or disinfecting.
You get what you pay for. I’ll be willing to pay more somewhere else.

Just signed up a couple a months ago and I’ve never been happier! My trainer Jay has already helped me make great strides towards my goals! The other staff is always friendly and helpful! Though the renovations were inconvenient I love what they did to the place!!! Classes are amazing!!! So happy!!!

I like working out here. The rate is cheap, the access is 24 hours, and with 3 «peak times» the gym is rarely crowded. I have recently learned that new equipment is in the mail. There are dry sauna’s in each locker room, and plenty of showers. The new floor in the free weight room was a much needed improvement too. The staff is always nice and professional.

Love this place. It’s close to work. Which makes it a great spot to go and get in a good work out while rush hour traffic dies down.

Don’t waste your money or time here! Once you are signed with them they whole feeling and approach changes. You will get charged high fees plus if you decide you want to cancel, well let’s just say you will be floored with how they handle it plus the outrageous terms and fees! Double read your contract and ask questions don’t just listen to their sells pitch. The gym equipment is old and brakes all the time as well! Plus its dirty and they do not clean them properly. Nothing like holding a piece of workout equipment with muck built up on it! The Customer service is HORRIBLE!!! WISH I COULD RATE ZERO STARS!

This gym has what you need. Elliptical machines, stair steppers (although one has been out of order for a month), bikes, machines and a lot of free weights.
I paid up front for a years membership and that works out to $ 21/​month — so I can’t speak to other reviews. They said it won’t renew when the year is up so that’s fine with me.
Now, their free weights room — what a disaster. Nobody supervises it in any way. Weights, benches, stuff is everywhere. Even their personal trainers come in, use full areas, which is ok as their clients pay for it, but then the trainer lets them just leave stuff everywhere. And it’s nasty too. Water dripping from the ceiling, huge cock roach just the other day, and surely those weights have not been sanitized. I know sometimes it’s up to the gym users to be courteous — and there is VERY little of that — but the staff never even tries to enforce the rules they printed out on a tiny piece of paper. Also, the class schedule is pretty weak.
The only reason I continue to go is because I paid up front (to get a work discount) and it’s convenient location. Other than that, I wouldn’t recommend. Some good things: it’s not super packed in the morning (6−730am) and the bootcamp instructor on mon/​wed morning kills it.

If I could I would give it no stars! As a previous reviewer stated, do not join this gym. Horrible customer service. Scam their members. Nobody does their job and are reluctant to find a solution to any problem.
