I went to Dr. Abeles for TMJ Disorder treatment. He determined that I have TMJ Disorder and we began treatment. I liked him and the people who worked with me, but the treatment was a) very expensive, b) almost completely ineffective, and c) I am still suffering the consequences of the treatment years later. First of all, I feel that the money-back guarantee is disingenuous. You only get your money back if you abandon treatment before it might be effective. So if you’re really going for it, you wouldn’t bail out that soon. Not only that, but there are some rather large costs that are not covered under the guarantee. Another surprise is that the braces you need to get after the expensive treatment(I paid $ 7,000 for Dr. Abeles’ treatment) — those braces cost twice what you’d think. If you go with his recommended orthodontists, they charge $ 15,000. I opted to go with a regular orthodontist. I had no choice at this point but to get braces because my jaw was repositioned and my teeth would no longer fit together. During Dr. Abeles treatment, I got a mouth appliance that held my front teeth so far apart that I could stick my tongue out with my mouth closed. It did not look good. So now I’m a couple years into my braces, I’m finally done with that thing, and my teeth only touch in two points, so it’s very difficult to eat. This will be sorted eventually as the braces do their work, but years later I’m still dealing with the inconvenience and expense of this ineffective TMJ treatment.

Very impressed with this doctor. I went for a TMJ evaluation fully expecting that the dr. would try to sell me on an expensive treatment program. Instead I got a very thoughtful & thorough exam(free of charge for initial consults) before he concluded that I would NOT be a good candidate for TMJ treatment. He even gave me some referrals to other doctors who might be able to help with my particular issue. Very professional, ethical and personable.
