Like The River Salon

My experience was not pleasant a all! I came to get a wash and set by Tamika at 8am. I was recommend to this salon by several women on YouTube. The salon is very professional and very timely. However I was not pleased with my hair at all! It was fluffy and not really flat ironed. Also she casually mentioned she was going to give me a trim however didn’t state it would cost but when I went to check out I was told it was an extra $ 15. I would have like to been given the option or have been told that a trim was extra. She also didnt even bother getting my dandruff out or giving me a tea tree oil shampoo THATS THE LEAST YOU CAN DO IVE NEVER SEEN A STYLIST LEAVE DANDRUFF IN A CLIENTS HAIR she said «you need a dermatologist we don’t touch dandruff». Maybe it’s just the stylist but my hair was not what I was expecting. She had a nasty attitude the whole time. DONT GO TO TAMIKA after discussing my horrible experience with a friend she said the same thing about the same stylist. I asked for waves she said no way I could get waves yet my regular stylist makes it happen even if I’m 4 weeks post relaxer. The salon has so much hype about how their styles are amazing yet I was so disappointed. The owner is probably the only one that can actually style hair nicely. Attached is what my hair usually looks like vs how it looked when I left the salon. The 1^st picture is what it’s usually like and the 2^nd is from Tamika. I tried a new salon because I was tired of waiting and being at the shop all day but I will be going back to that since I can’t seem to find a stylist that respects my time and does a great job on my hair. They emailed me about fixing my dissatisfaction I replied I want a refund or the owner to do my hair! No reply yet… figures. I’m considering calling my bank.

I have grown to use Unilocal reviews as my guide to «when and where to try something new». This is the one time that I did not do that.
I discovered Like the River (LTR) on Facebook. I was forced into going from medium length hair to short after a hair disaster… after stalking their page for about 2 weeks I finally gave in. I did not Unilocal the salon prior to my first visit. When I left the salon I was in love!
My hair always looks, feels and smells good. I receive compliments from strangers after every visit. Even my family loves it although they prefer lengthier hair-​styles.
In the year that I have been here I have not seen ONE style that caused me to turn up my nose… and I can be judgmental. But beautiful hair is what they are known for so we expect that… what about the other salon features???
I am a service junkie. You can have the best product but if the service quality doesn’t match, you may not have my business.
Here is where I commend (LTR)…SERVICE! I am always in the chair by my scheduled appointment time or earlier. These ladies (and a couple of gentlemen) are professional in their service, appearance and conduct. They don’t linger for tips but show appreciation when received. You won’t hear gossip, inappropriate discussions, or offensive music that has no place in a mixed client setting as is often the case at other salons. They acknowledge their clients on holidays with snacks and beverages and on the weekends they serve mimosas. The products they use are available for purchase but aren’t pushed on you. The salon looks nice and is always clean. It’s these small things that go a long way.
I want to say a little about my stylist, Regina. When I finally read the reviews I was confused by those who noted that Regina is unfriendly. Having no knowledge of the stylists before I scheduled I took the first available, Regina. I could have returned and booked with another stylist and remember I believe good service and a quality product should be a package deal. I was pleased with Regina. She is not the chatter bug that I am but not everyone is nor do I expect them to be just because some of us don’t know how to shut up:) I have found her to be kind, she does engage me in conversation, recalls details I’ve shared about myself, and even notices when she hasn’t seen me in a while. I don’t know if she has a little black book she uses to freshen up on client information before we come in nor do I care… I appreciate the effort… again, a little show of personal attention goes a long way.
I’m sorry to hear that some have had such poor experiences at this establishment. I waited a year to provide this feedback to collect objective data. I have been looking for reasons, any reason, to stop coming to this salon… to spend a little less money… to save myself a 40-​minute drive. I have tried other salons intermittently in hopes of finding a stylist closer to home and/​or with a less expensive fee schedule… even willing to compromise and accept someone with a little less skill. I can’t find one!
Both my time and money are important and LTR makes me feel that they value both!
I could share more but I think you get the gist! In short they confirm the old adage, «sometimes you DO get what you pay for»!

I went to Like The River on the 15^th of January, my stylist was Shatorie. I had a great experience with my stylist and this Salon. I opted for the wavy curly look just because I wanted something special for my Bday party which was the next day. The look was really nice but didn’t hold for my Bday party. My hair is very soft and had done damage from weave hairstyles that I had been wearing for about 6 months. I enjoyed conversing with Shatorie and enjoyed my shampoo deep conditioning. I will definitely go back… I gave this salon 4 stars because my only negative was the pricing of services.

Hi, my name is Christina and I admired the owners skills & talents with hair on Ig. I finally decided to make an appointment to get the wave curl look (theyre signature hairstyle) I was told the owner wasn’t accepting anymore clients at the time, so they suggested to me to make an appointment with Shatori. Before coming to salon, I put a perm in my hair. I let the conditioner sit in my hair, then allow the stylist to wash it off. Shatori told me that was still considered a shampoo/​wash (despite only washing the conditioner out). I explained the hairstyle I wanted. From the moment I sat in the chair, Shatori seemed never want to do my hairstyle. I feel she wasn’t trying to display her craft, just continuing to complain & giving reasons not to complete my hair. She did my waves and never used the wrap paper, despite everyone under the dryer had the wrap. I was also stunned she didn’t use the wrap paper knowing that my hair wasn’t «straight» (as what she told me). Overall she did my hair horribly. The customer service was horrible! I even asked her would she even wear the hairstyle she stated no. I felt for my first time at Like A River salon, the stylist should’ve been more open & welcoming. Everyone one else was nice. I also, didn’t like that she asked Felicia & Felicia went on saying my hair was straight, yet she never looked or observed in detail my hair. My hair might not been 100% bone straight but it was capable for a much better hairstyle. I’m very disappointed and felt you have the right to know how I was treated. If she didn’t want or couldn’t achieve the look she should’ve said that. I tried to reach out to the manager, but she never responded back to me. I was able to get my deposit back, but the professionalism was horrible!

The most important thing is that my hair ALWAYS looks amazing when I leave. I ALWAYS get compliments. My hair ALWAYS grows a little every two weeks (how often I’ve been going). Tameka is my stylist and keeps my hair awesome. She’s very sweet and definitely a master at what she does. She doesn’t take advantage of my ignorance about short hair maintenance, but she makes suggestions for helping me attain my hair goals, and keeping me fabulous. The salon overall operates extremely well. 1^st– let me say that I show up early sometimes to avoid traffic with the plan to finish up some work (bc they are kind enough to have wifi for their customers) but Tameka finds a way to see me before my appointment time. If she can’t start me off, one of the other stylist or staff does by shampooing and conditioning me. I love the team work and that they value my time. I never feel like my stylist forgot me under the dryer and more importantly, the prices are extremely fair for the work being done.
I also love that they take advantage of technology and text your appointments to you when scheduled and send follow-​up messages closer to your time for reminders– super helpful. The salon coordinators/​receptionist/​front desk staff are all very nice and helpful– and they don’t stare when you show up with a birds nest because they know you’ll leave looking GLORIOUS!

I was a client of this salon for several years, but I decided to move on. What made me decide not to go back, was the color treatment I received. I asked for natural looking highlights… what did I get? Blond streaks! What black person naturally has blond highlights? I even showed the stylist an example of what I wanted and her reply was that it was just the lighting and the style I referenced didn’t have color. I paid $ 150 for a color service that I absolutely did not want and that day I decided… NEVER AGAIN!

They are not all that they crack up to be. If you like the «Hollywood» façade that some places of business like to project then this is the experience for you. However, if you are looking for a more personable salon experience where you know they really care about the quality of your hair and doing their best work for you, and you’re not just another service payment that came through the door, whom they could care less if you return or not, then this is not the salon for you. They are just money driven, and as long as you’re willing to pay the generous price for their services, then you’re in their grace. Outside of that, their «sincerity» is contrived.

I wanted to get my hair done while in Atlanta for a short visit because I know that there are many talented stylist out here. I found this place on Google and checked out their Facebook page as was pretty impressed. The staff was friendly and professional, I love the ambiance of the salon. My stylist was Shashanna (not sure if I spelled it right) and she was very friendly and hooked me up with a cute style.

I recently moved to Inman Park and decided to bite the bullet and try this salon after researching every salon I could find within 15 minute walking distance. Unfortunately, $ 30 for a men’s haircut (before gratuity) was the best price I could find in a neighborhood where men’s haircuts run $ 40-​$ 60 for 30 minutes worth of work on a basic short haircut. I normally pay $ 20 before gratuity at a salon in Buckhead, a location that is far less convenient. I was willing to pay the price difference for the convenience if the haircut would be as good.
I just booked my next appointment at the far less convenient location with my normal stylist in Buckhead.
I’ve never had a bad men’s haircut until I went to Like the River Salon. Our hair isn’t that difficult. We don’t ask for much. I had no idea that cleaning up the hairline around the neck and ears could be so difficult. I had no idea that examining the current length of hair and seeing how the shape just needs to be made into a slightly shorter version of it’s present state could be so difficult. I didn’t need a lot because I get a haircut once a month. I was really disappointed by my haircut at this salon.
I would give 1 star based on the haircut alone. I gave a 2^nd star only because I commend them for not charging $ 40-​$ 60 for a basic men’s haircut like the other numerous salons in the neighborhood. My stylist was also very nice and conversational, and seemed to want to make me feel comfortable. With that said, I would rather them just tell me that they don’t specialize in men’s haircuts and advise me to look elsewhere. Being nice to me isn’t enough to replace skills and experience.

Shoshannah is amazing! I’ve been a client at Like The River for over a year, but have jumped around to different stylist almost every time I go. Just hadn’t found the one. My hair is fairly low maintenance as I’m trying to grow it back out from a big chop. All the stylist are wonderful however Shoshannah is invested in making sure you walk out of there feeling beautiful, more over I just felt confident with her work. I told her initially i only wanted a trim, buy later mentioned a bob style. Rather than just chopping at it she gave me a logical assessment of my current length and advised that I should wait a little more for my sides to grow out. (I went before with a shorter length and the stylist cut a bob, but I looked more like a Bieber… I was still cute though!). I appreciate Shoshannah’s insight and professionalism and will be coming back again to see her! Oh and they gave out complimentary margaritas :)

Absolutely love this place! The atmosphere is inviting, and service is top notch. Never had typical urban salon issues here: talking on the phone while styling, loud, double-​booking appointments causing you to be here all day, etc…
One problem: Appointments! If you do not book at least one week in advance, you will not be able to book an appointment with anyone. They are super busy, and all stylist slots fill up fast!
However if you are looking for a stylist in particular, Tameka is great! She is very knowledgeable and can cut hair like no other.

The customer service here is top notch. All of the stylist here are professional and very talented. My stylist is Regina. She is great! I love it when you can come to a salon and your stylist knows exactly the products and style (s) just right for you!

My salon and stylist is better than yours!!! I was a walk in over a year ago and have been a client since that day. Regina was able to squeeze me in and still managed to get me in and out within 1 ½−2. Regina is patient with me and provides excellent customer service every time! #youseemyprofilepic

If I had to rate this salon 1 – 10 I would give it a 4. I loved the location which was close to my house, and also loved the ambiance of the salon. However my stylist was very rude, not very welcoming, and didn’t have a clue what to do with my hair (and made it known she did not know). Like a lot of African American women my hair has some breakage from weaves and other styles so I wasn’t expecting a miracle but i at least expected my stylist to know how to style my hair. I made the appointment in hopes of finding a stylist I could go to once every two weeks to get my hair back on track but when I asked my stylist about setting up a future appointment she replied «oh I don’t think I’ll be here in two weeks» and walked away. So I would not recommend this salon to anyone, especially if you suffer from a little breakage. They will make you feel bad about your hair.

Like one other reviewer I too have waited several weeks to give an honest review of my experience with Like The River Salon. First off I do not bash or give out negativity, this is just my honest review of my experience.
I went in for a haircut I found via Facebook and Instagram. I chose Sindica. I ended up needing a partial relaxer and I think this is where it all went wrong. My hair was very «nappy» and unkept looking when done. I woke up the next morning and every hair was sticking straight up on my head, it won’t lay down and I have to spend at least 1 hour getting it to look presentable before work or my day, I do not have the time to literally re-​curl and totally restyle my hair every single day before a meeting or work. I actually ended up having to re-​do my relaxer and try to cut it into a style where it wasn’t just sticking straight out in an attempt to get it to lay down.
The products used did not hold up to the elements at all… I was so embarrassed at work that week that I had to take a few days off to fix it…
I’m just not into that unkept/​nappy look. My stylist did explain the so called relaxer system which leaves texture in your hair, and I did let her know that I was «old school» and wanted my hair STRAIGHT not textured which to me looks very Nappy/​Unkept.
So my overall experience was not good. I am still waiting another week to relax my hair correctly and finish fixing the cut.

First off, this salon just «feels» good. Nice music, relaxing atmosphere and everyone is friendly and professional.
I just had a great first appointment with Shatori! She took time to understand the color I was hoping for (I needed a new color for fall), and presented me with several suggestions on how to achieve it. She was patient, creative and seemed to take great pride in her work. She actually giggled as she cut my bob, because she was so excited :)
I’m pretty good at styling my own hair, so when I pay money to go to a salon, I am looking for a good experience and a style that makes me feel fabulous. Shatori did an awesome job! Not only do I feel fabulous, I’ve received numerous compliments on my hair.

The atmosphere was amazing! My appt was at 10am I arrived at 9:45 & was seated for consultation at 9:50. Sindica is THE BOMB! Very laid back, professional & listens well. She knows what she’s doing & what will fit your face. She gave me soft waves & it fite me PERFECTLY! Shehas won me over as a client from Saturday on forward! Can;t wait to get my cut next time :)

This is the place for a professional salon experience! I have been to this place several times and love the outcome every time! Located in Highland park area, this salon will pamper you with quality products, professional service, and top notch styling skills.
My stylist is Cheryl. Very sweet, professional hair stylist. She does awesome work. Najah, the owner is amazing! If you can get an appointment with either of them… Drop everything and book it! You will be very pleased.
I travel pretty far to come here, but it’s well worth it. The prices are a bit on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for. I have been serviced by both extremes in the past, from kitchen curls for the low to salons that have you wasting your entire day to get it styled. This place gets you in and out, without excess product and color left on your hairline!
Parking is never an issue. There is a free parking garage available for all of the shops located here. No need to park on the street or pay for parking.
I highly recommend Like the River Salon, which has been voted Best Salon of Atlanta for 2013!!! Well deserved.

It’s been over two weeks since I visited LTR and I wasn’t sure if I was going to write a review because I’m not one to publicly bad mouth a business, especially when it’s evident they’ve put a lot into it. I might call my mother and complain, but that’s different. Well, after some thought, here I go…
I was sooooo disappointed. I’ve followed this salon for months while living in a different state. I was so excited to move to ATL and visit this salon. Regina styled my hair and it was terrible. I wanted to cry right on the spot. I was very specific about what I wanted, and showed her a photo of a style I saw on the LTR facebook page. She seemed to be more concerned with pushing the products sold in the salon, from Phyto vitamins to satin pillow cases, instead of really listening to me.
After the disaster, Najah, the owner came over and worked on my hair, and I must say, she worked magic and fixed the problem. I don’t know how Regina passed the interview. The only way I would return is if my appointment is with Najah but she stays booked, and I’m too afraid to experiment with a different stylist (even though Cheryl comes highly recommended), it’s just too expensive to be disappointed twice. I’m so disappointed because I really wanted to like LTR.
The salon itself is very nice, and the staff greeted me when I walked in and were very friendly, but unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be returning.

I have only been going to the salon for several months now and I am very impressed. All the stylist are very friendly. They do believe in getting you in and out with quality. You do not have to concern yourself with your stylist being «over-​booked» and you sitting at the salon all day. You are there at a reasonable amount of time based on your services. It is good to find a salon that specialize in short hair. Granted, there are a lot of stylist in Atlanta, but MOST of them specialize in weave and long hair. LTR is the 1^st of it’s class to specialize in short hair with quality… without the «hard curls»
Great products and service here. I wouldn’t trade it
