While, personally, I’m not very involved with Mint, I have been lucky enough to enter and be a part of a few of their shows and can say from an artist’s perspective they’re a stand up organization. My favorite of their events is their Postcard Pin-up shows. It feels very supportive to budding artists and the art community, and there isn’t a discrimination on the work. Anyone can submit pieces as long as they adhere to Mint’s guidelines on size, it’s called the Postcard Pin-up show afterall! So it needs to be around postcard size. While it doesn’t have to contain a pin-up of anything or be conventionally a postcard, the artists are free to create and do whatever they wish. It also allows artists who’ve never exhibited art to be able to sell their work. Mint, however, does take a percentage of sales as small as 40%. In the past, I’ve always donated 100%, this time around I decided to go with 40%, times were a bit rougher this year, maybe? Yes? They also have a fixed price rate on the pieces with a limit of four pieces total. I really enjoy the event though, and whenever I can, I submit work to it, just cause, well it’s a lot of fun, and I really appreciate what Mint’s doing. If the percentages stir you away, please don’t! I had a friend who seemed kinda ‘meh’ after hearing she wouldn’t get the full price for her piece if it sold at the event, but after she went was really impressed, and seemed to enjoy it. Also, having a piece in the event doesn’t guarantee it’ll sell, but you can pick up the work the next week and go your merry way. I also was a part of a book release party a few years back, and really enjoyed how they handled it, also loved that their location isn’t in a place that looks like the beginning to a horror movie. Haha. I do miss, however, the food trucks that were out front of their events before though. Anyways, Mint, you’re awesome. Keep up the awesome work!
