Had a broken rear dérailleur(campy) on a 10 year old road bike — and was having real problems finding a bike shop that was willing to try to rebuild it instead of having to buy a new $ 150 one to replace it(besides the newer ones were for 10 or 11, and mine is an older 9). To make a long story short, Justin figured it out and actually seemed to enjoy the challenge and fixed it for a fraction of the cost. It works now even better than before it was broken. Also extremely quick turn around(one day) although he had a backlog of tune ups because of a Livingsocial promotion. Really nice to find a place that knows what it’s doing and provides exceptional service.

These guys are real pros. At the old location on Rogers street, the guys built my wheels and pieced together a whole bike from these crazy parts I wanted to use. That old frame was a real puzzle but No Brakes figured it out. I also love that these guys host alley cats that bring the bike community together-let’s see more! The new location on woodward seems more accessible, but still on a quiet street.

I love this place. Justin was incredibly mellow and helpful, and took his time helping us pick out racks and baskets for our bikes. No Brakes is not a factory, it’s a neighborhood shop, and it feels authentic. I’m used to being condescended to at bike shops, but there was none of that here, not even the subtle bikier-than-thou attitude that I always thought was just par for the course. Even better, the place itself actually *is* cool. Selection isn’t huge, but the stuff was there is pretty, or useful — in one way or another everything in the shop seemed to be ordered by someone who really cares about and is interested in bikes. Dropped off the bikes and will pick up in a few days with the new baskets and a tune up, so I can’t say yet how great the tech work is, but I have a good feeling about it. And the prices are totally reasonable — $ 30 for a tune up? Sounds good to me.
