Established in 1999.

Paolo’s Gelato was created in 1999 by Paolo Dalla Zorza, a native of Venice, Italy. Paolo’s is the first authentic Italian Gelateria in Atlanta.

Paolo brought the taste of Italy to America in the form of gelato –Italian ice cream– in more than 62 brilliant flavors. The gelateria specializes in the sublime frozen dessert, but it also offers imported Italian coffees, candies, cookies and a showcase ‘Cannoli Bar’ where guests can create a cusomized cannoli.

Perhaps the most distinctive element to Paolo’s Gelato Italiano-​aside from its welcoming and comedic host — is the ability to weave such brilliant and deep flavors into such a light dessert. Milk based gelato typically contains less than seven percent fat, while the fruit based gelato has less then two percent — even the health conscious should take note!

Was very disappointed with Paolo’s pistachio gelato the last time we were there. My son and I couldn’t finish our gelato (different color and terrible taste). We walked out thinking that maybe Paolo’s had been sold and new owner didn’t have the original recipe. What a disappointment, we have been to Italy a few times and have considered Paolo’s gelato in par or better than any gelato in Italy. We will give it one more try and hope that our experience was just an outlier.

This is very traditional and delicious gelato. I love the straciatella flavor. The cones are light and crispy. I’m going to keep coming here as much as my stomach can handle.

Love this place! The staff are always very nice and go out of their way to make sure you are happy with your purchase. Plus the gelato is perfect! I would highly recommend checking this place out.

Paolo’s specializes in gelato (62 flavors), but it also offers imported Italian coffees, candies, cookies and a showcase ‘Cannoli Bar’ where guests can create a customized cannoli. It has a great following. You will frequently find lines outside the door. And the wait is long. On one occasion, we gave up cause the line was so long. And it moves rather slowly. The flavors rotate on a weekly basis. You can sign up for their email list so that you can find out what flavors are being offered that week. Very convenient. I have heard they make a nice affogato. I find that I am not a big fan of the flavors, creative as they may be. I tried the crema on my visit. It is an egg-​based custard. Not my cup of tea, it wasn’t too bad though. I do want to give them another shot though. When it gets warm and there is a flavor I am interested in, I’ll make the walk up to their store.

Outstanding and flavorful products produced with love! No matter where you are, find this place and pay them a visit. I just happened to and am so glad I did. Delightful people. I got the Kiwi and also Strawberry sorbet in a cup and they not only give you plenty but a wonderful waffle wafer to top it off. Sat in my car and could not stop saying to my self, wow this is so yummy! I’ll be back guys!

There was a line even after dinnertime, but it wasn’t too bad. Street parking can be difficult, but we found a spot not too far away. The inside is tiny so take it to-​go only, but that gelato starts melting as soon as you step outside the door. We were intrigued by the available flavors, and we loved that we can try samples before our final order.
$ 8 cup for up to 4 flavors: chocolate raspberry, stracciatella, mint, niciolla (hazelnut)
I liked the niciolla the most because it reminded me of Ferrero Rocher®. The Stracciatella seems to be the thing to get according to Unilocalers, but we thought the taste was alright. My bf enjoyed the mint a lot, but the chocolate raspberry was our least favorite.

Best place to get gelato, espresso, and Italian cookies. The owner, my Italian friend, has been in the business for more than 15 years and he knows how to make, authentic, Italian gelato. Gelato is always fresh and he makes available several, different Flavors that changes weekly.

Through out the years I would say that Paolos gelato has been consistent. Not as rich as say Whole Foods, but definitely more flavorful. Whether a sorbet or tasting the other indulgent gelato flavors, it’s always been a great dessert to finish off the night when dining somewhere close by in midtown.
Parking has always been a pain, especially prime time dinner hours. But just do a little parking stalking in the nearby neighborhoods and that short walk shall be rewarded very well.

I wish I could give this place 0 star. This review is for the affgato only. I could barely taste the gelato in my affogato. It was full of bad coffee and yucky whip cream. The seller was trying hard to up-​sell everything. Luckily I knew exactly what I wanted. However, I was very disappointed. I have had much better affogato at other places in Atlanta, with better service. I felt like throwing $ 7 away without tasting my food.

Ok– to say it up-​front: As far as the Gelato is concerned, I had better (see also Gelato Paradiso review).
BUT… the place is cute and creatively put together. One of those ‘you-​must-​stop-​for-​a-​visit’ if you are in the neighborhood. To the left of this rather tiny place, you can read on three story boards all about Paolo. On the other side, you can find unique Italian cookies and a T-​Shirt that simply WILL make you laugh out loud: «How to order Gelato in Italian»… now that’s a creative idea :)
The gelato is so-​so and too sweet for my taste yet the T-​Shirt was worth discovering!

Tasty, Pricey Gelato
Paolo’s has a limited selection, but there’s usually something really good. Our only complaint is that portions are kind of small and the price is kind of high. Staff are pleasant and ready to give samples.

The gelato is OK. A little too pricey I think. Maybe the flavors they are floor that day weren’t the best tasting. I couldn’t find parking so I just parked next to the burger place next to there. The cashier was really nice. I went there at 2pm because that’s the time I thought it opened, but the cashier told me they open at 3pm. I’ve had really good gelato and this was not the best.

This charming, little gelato shop at the corner of Virginia Avenue and North Highland is the perfect way to cleanse the pallet after a nice, juicy patty from YEAH! Burger. We enjoyed a delicious taste sensation of not too heavy, yet slightly creamy gelato. Our weapons of choice were Pistachio and Lemon, but we will return forthwith for another delight to the ol’ tastebuds. We were only a little disappointed to have missed Paolo’s boisterous personality, but his gelato more than made up for it.

It’s okay– nothing too exciting. There are about 8 flavors I believe to choose from. I ordered the blueberry gelato and it was ok. The smallest cup costs $ 6 and credit cards can only be used if your order is $ 10 or higher. Customer service was good and it seems to stay pretty steady there. We found a bench to sit on outside to eat our goodies. I’ve definitely had better gelato and experienced way more flavors. I definitely wouldn’t break my neck to get back here, but wouldn’t be totally against going back if I was on this side of town.

I guess it doesn’t help that I just got back from Rome before I visited Paolos, but the $ 15 price tag on a medium cup and large cone gave me a bit of sticker shock. On top of that, I found the pistachio gelato a bit flavorless and the variety of flavors lacking. The gelato shop I always visit when I’m in Rome has about 30 flavors of gelato for half the price, and they will give you the savor-​every-​bit feeling I didn’t experience at Paolo’s.
Ah, the life of a flight attendant has me spoiled, I suppose.

Wonderful gelato spot in a beautiful area in the Highlands. I love the little wafer cookies they add to your gelato. I kept it simple with mint chocolate chip and pistachio in a cup, both wonderful. I cannot wait to go back.

No parking, so we posted up in front of someone’s house a few blocks away just to drop an absurd $ 6 for a truly small small. Really lackluster flavors… Damn, the desserts-​only scene in Atlanta is depressing

Saturday night and the line was out the door. There was only standing room for about 5 – 6 customers inside but the line moved pretty quickly.
On the way to the front, we passed a display of Italian treats like Nutella and Italian cookies for sale. There was also a festive collection of Venetian Carnavale masks on the wall.
I was happy to see a nice assortment of gelato flavors (chocolatey, fruity, nutty, and flowery) to choose from.
Rose was fresh and fragrant but since I was in the mood for chocolate I went with Stracciatella. It was similar to chocolate chip: think Magic Shell topping stirred into vanilla gelato. It was creamy and delicious.
No complaints about the gelato but my specialty cone (chocolate drizzled with sprinkles) was stale. Because of that the experience ended on a bad note.

You would miss this authentic Italian gelato shop if you don’t look twice but it’s delicious and dog friendly — which is great for me n my dog on a nice hot day. I got the chocolate mousse and my friend had caramel apple — both so good! They also have crepes and canolis. The gelato is smooth, light and delicious! It is small and qaint, sitting off N Highland and the outside benches make for a great spot to enjoy your icecream. Cute icecream date for the lover in you too ;)

Loved it here! After filling my tummy with yummy tacos, I needed something sweet and refreshing to top it off.
It was my first time, so I was told there are usually long lines, but we lucked out and came when no one was there. The first girl who gave me my sample was very friendly. The owner was the one who actually scooped my gelato for me. He was funny and chitchatted with us.
I opted for the sugar cone with the mango gelato which comes with a sugar cookie on top. It was great! The gelato was smooth and screamed of mango flavor. I wish I would have tried a cannoli, but that’ll just be something to look forward to next time.
Note– The sugar cones are difficult to get more than one scoop, so I’d opt for the flower cone. They’re both $ 5, but I can’t remember if it was extra for a second scoop. The flower cone can hold two scoops plus the shape prevents any melted gelato from dripping down the sides.

Brought my very European mother to this Very European gelato shop and she LOVED IT!
I enjoy the fact that you can pick up little treats from Italy (a six pack of Sanpellegrino aranciata, barnier lollipops (my fave), or a box of beautiful amaretti cookies). Order a crêpe (with gelato, strawberries, bananas, cream), –Or– have a fresh-​filled cannoli. I opted for the cannoli, but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with anything you get!
Seating is severely limited (inside for two people, outside on a bench for approx four) – the only reason why I didn’t give this place 5 stars.
Though, on a nice night you can always walk around and eat your gelato italiano in the beautiful surrounding neighborhood al fresco!
