Established in 2009.

Owner Tiffany Terranova opened RAW out of her home for selfish reasons, really. The artist and fashion maven (she designed for Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles) wanted to get a gorgeous, natural-​looking tan without having to worry about looking unseasonably bronzed or that just-​got-​a-​spray-​tan smell that can clear a room. Plus, after surviving melanoma at 27, inhaling all those fumes didn’t jive with Terranova’s new health-​conscious lifestyle either. RAW prides itself on offering highly personalized services in a cool, contemporary environment with multiple private, ventilated bronzing rooms. A melanoma survivor at the age of 27, Tiffany Terranova decided to change her lifestyle. She became super health conscious and vowed to stay out of the sun. But what’s a fair skinned gal to do to get bronzed? Tiffany did her research, found a 100% organic, all-​natural spray tan solution that is actually good for the skin, and opened RAW Bronzing Studio out of her home in November 2009. Ever since, customers have felt totally comfortable trusting Tiffany to make them look their best. As an artist and wardrobe/​costume designer for the multi-​platinum selling duo, Sugarland, she’s got an eye for beauty. So glad I found this place! I’m from Miami, so I take my color seriously. Both the owner and my airbrush artist (as I like to call her) were very sweet! Jean, who sprayed me, was professional and warm. She walks you through everything step by step and pays close attention to detail, which is perfect for first time tanners. I did 3 coats (because I like it dark) and the color is immediate… I can’t wait to see what it looks like tomorrow after I shower! I will definitely be recommending Raw to my friends. Skip the spray tan booths and get a custom glow by Jean!

Just to start my review, I should say I was very skeptical to getting a spray tan done. I had gotten them done in the past, and was unhappy. Sometimes they smell, leave streaks and end up leaving you look orange.
I booked my appointment online, and they sent me confirmation reminding me when, and how to prep for the day of — nice touch!
This business was VERY professional. Before we even started, I was explained how to take care of my tan after, what exactly was going to happen once the tan began. For anyone who may be uncomfortable, you can get as undressed as you feel comfortable with. They are very accommodating and professional about this.
It took about fifteen minutes to complete and was fairly priced. My tan looked great for a wedding I was in, and was very pleased. I would return.

Overall this is a great place to come for routine spray tans. I have my own spray tan machine and I get spray tans frequently. I tried Raw before going on a beach trip and had great service. There were two cons. First was that the color didn’t last. Not sure if it’s because of the organic ingredients or what but it only lasted about 2 days and faded by the 3rd day. As I stated before, I’m not new to airbrush tanning so I know how to maintain it to prolong the tan. But despite my efforts, by day 3 of my trip I was pale again.
In addition, my technician sprayed my hands and feet but then advised me to wash my palms and around my feet multiple times afterward to prevent the gross feet hand thing. I washed about 3 – 4 times that night but still woke up with orange hands and feet. If I were attending an event I’d care more but it was just a girls trip so I wasn’t too picky.
I hate to make these negative comments bc the service and place left such a great impression on me. I just wouldn’t recommend for a big event like a wedding. If I go again, I’ll request that my hands and feet be avoided and maybe even apply some barrier cream or something. I shouldn’t have to wash my hands and feet every 15 min if it’s done correctly.

Woah, RAW is the best bronzing studio in Atlanta! I went yesterday to get a DARK tan.. Amber, sprayed me twice then asked how the color was and I immediately replied, great! After a few minutes and a closer look in the mirror, I realized I wanted to be a bit darker. Without a second thought she jumped on board with «Whatever you want». Which is not something you hear very often anymore. I love that she did exactly what I asked and trusted that I knew my skin and my experience with previous spray tans. She warned me that it would be very dark, which it is but it is PERFECTION! I naturally tan very dark in the summer so my skin looks better being its normal dark shade. She prepped me on the upkeep and routine and they all worked! My tan is perfect and I can’t wait to go back! Thanks Amber!

I’m from DC but came to Atlanta for a wedding and I came to Raw in midtown on a whim looking for a little glow. Just keep in mind I work in healthcare and never see the light of day so I’m as pale as you can imagine. I did the airbrush tan with the rapid which allows you to shower sooner but I waited a good 5 hours just to be safe. After I showered I was a little concerned because I didn’t really appear that much darker, but I definitely had a noticeably smoother skin tone. Later that night I went to bed and when I woke up the following morning my husband was like whoa! You look super tan! Needless to say, that morning I looked like I had just left Montego Bay. It was great! I could not be happier! Btw I never had an issue with the fingers/​toes/​or ankles looking weird or streaky! If there was a Raw anywhere in the DC area I would probably do a monthly package!!!

Was recommended to this place by a few friends, said it was the best in town. I called to schedule an appointment and they were so friendly and answered all my questions over the phone. When I arrived they made me feel comfortable and I didn’t feel uncomfortable being almost nude. It was also nice to have the person doing the spray tan, not be a double dead gorgeous super model. Don’t get wrong she was still cute and sweet but an average women, which made me feel so much more comfortable. I’m not one for just getting naked in front of others. I spray tan looks gorgeous. I wish my tan wasn’t as bad because I could tell the lines on my shoulders were showing slightly even after the tan settled. But next time maybe I could go a little darker!

After trying Raw, I won’t go anywhere else for a spray tan in Atlanta. Every staff member I’ve encountered is extremely professional and friendly. They take the time to thoroughly listen to what you want and explain everything about the process to you, which I appreciate.
The pricing is incredibly reasonable, and unlike some other places, they don’t pressure you into any added services or throw in any surprise fees.
The color is super natural-​looking (not orange!) and lasts for a week or longer if you take care of it properly. They also keep track in their system of what level tan you get, so when you go back they can replicate it exactly.
The location is very convenient and nice inside. They also sell some cute merchandise and nice sun screens. I couldn’t recommend Raw more highly!

Let me preface this review by admitting how adverse I was to spray tanning. In my experience they turn your skin orange, look obviously fake, smell funky and leave you all splotchy when they start to fade… But after going to RAW Bronzing Studio my mind has completely changed.
I have gotten two spray tans at RAW and they both turned out phenomenal. (I did the rapid formula + prep– because let’s face it, I’m too impatient to wait 8 hours to shower haha).
After showering, my skin looked like I came back from a week-​long vacation on an island. SO natural looking. I got so many compliments on my «tan.»
I ABSOLUTELY recommend getting a spray tan here. Great color. Friendly staff. Overall awesome experience.

I had the pleasure of getting a bronzing airbrush tan on Friday evening on May 15th by Jean at the RAW Midtown location. I came in to get a tan for my upcoming pageant which was held that weekend and RAW Bronzing Studio did NOT disappoint!
After having a few streaks with the first tan application (my fault due to my own prep lotion, not from the Studio, I applied before coming in which did not take to the spray ingredients well), Jean suggested that I go home, shower it off, and then return to the studio to try again. She was so committed to making my tan worthwhile that she fit me into her busy schedule that night and waited patiently for me to return to be sprayed again. She did an AMAZING job with my tan, made me feel comfortable, and was extremely efficient, professional, and super nice!
Tiffany, the owner, also added a complimentary PREP to ensure that my tan would come out without streaks. I was so so pleased with the studio, its’ owner, and Jean and I left that night very TAN and very HAPPY!
I WON the pageant that Sunday looking STELLAR in my beautiful bronzed tan! I received so many compliments and I am so grateful for the services that I received at RAW Bronzing Studio Midtown! The staff certainly went above and beyond my needs on that Friday evening!
You better bet that I am planning on stopping by the RAW Bronzing Studio Midtown location again for my future appearances and events. I will never hesitate to refer all of my friends to this Studio!

RAW is the best of the best. Tiffany always remembers exactly how I like my tans to look and makes sure that it looks perfect. I recommend this place to pretty much anyone I meet, and everyone that works there is so great! If it’s your first time, they will walk you through exactly how to care for your tan and if it’s raining they will even walk you out with a giant umbrella to make sure you don’t mess up your tan! It is the only spray tan that actually smells good and doesn’t irritate my super sensitive skin at all. It is far the best spray tan in Atlanta… and probably the U.S.

This place is wonderful. Great hours, easy to book, fast, even application that dries quickly. I’m a ginger, and the color still looked very natural on me, so that’s saying something. It was raining the night I went and one of the ladies even walked me out to my car under an umbrella, getting wet herself so I didn’t ruin my new glow. I wish I could make this a regular occurrence.

I am a pale gal, and this is the only place I will get a spray tan. Every employee here is so nice and welcoming. They also have a dog that hangs out in the lobby (major bonus points). Who ever sprays you makes sure to walk you through the whole process and gives you after care tips. They also make sure that you get the exact color you want. The tan doesn’t smell bad, and it’s done all by hand. Can’t say enough good things about RAW! LOVE LOVE LOVE

I went to this place because of the Unilocal Reviews, and obviously didn’t have the same experience others have had…
I followed all of the instructions, kept on my loose yoga clothes, so I didn’t even see the problem until the day after tanning. While the color was good, I have MASSIVE lines, including an entire area on one leg that had no color. It looked like what I would think might happen if I had done it myself.
I was hoping this would be so much better than Versa which I’ve used quite a bit, and while the color was better, the application was uneven in a way that I have never had in the spray booth. Doesn’t that defeat the purpose?
Then it got worse. I called the next day to see what I could do to try to correct if before an event I had that night. (I didn’t have time to come in for corrective tanning because the drying time is long, and with an important event, I would hate to wear multiple errors in application.) Anyway, I was told that I could try to exfoliate where the lines were but…
1. No apology for bad application
2. Never even asked my name
The second issue bothers me because that tells me that if it’s a matter of application, they didn’t even care who did it and needs more training.
Also, it’s unfortunate that essentially you tip before you know what results you’re tipping on.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend.

I think I will get addicted to this. I am fair skinned and need to use sunscreen always. But I like the healthy look of a «sun kissed» tan.
Raw’s staff is very friendly and professional. Their location on Bishop St. is easy to get to & find thanks to the very clear directions on their web site. They provide preparation instructions — pay attention to them. The facility is clean & bright, with a fun and tempting retail area (cute straw hats, Havainas, Ts, fair trade accessories).
I had no discomfort whatsoever during the spray «down». I opted for the prep + Rapid but Lori asked me when I planned to shower — when I said Saturday, she recommended the regular prep + tanning, saving me $ 10. Rapid is for «emergency tanning» — e.g., you have an event THAT night. I opted to go with prep because I know how unfortunate tanning can turn out if you aren’t properly prepped (hands, elbows etc.)
She did a terrific job, I don’t recall any particular odor & if there was one, it did not linger. I went back to work — getting there from my midtown office, spray tan & back in about 50 minutes. Luckily a casual day when I could wear flip flops, a loose T and pants, as recommended.
I made the mistake of washing both sides of my hands the first day (good habit to have, but not when you want to keep the new tan on your hands while it develops. I bought sanitary wipes after that to keep my palms clean and not forget and wash off my new tan. Bigger mistake #2 was thinking I could use Loreal tanning wipes on the backs of my hands to recover. WRONG — my gorgeous, no splotches or white spots tan anywhere was tainted only by my orange back of hands. Lemon juice, nail polish remover, tooth paste and several washings later, I got it calmed down enough that it wasn’t too obvious, though it flawed Raw’s perfection.
The lesson here — stick with the pros for spray tanning! and remember to follow their suggestions for before & after.
