I had no expectations when I met my girlfriends for dinner at this lovely place on Edgewood. I was a little concerned that I had to enter through the back porch down the driveway but once I entered, I had a good feeling. I found my gals sitting around the bar on the corner, with drinks and apps started. I settled in, got my drink and started digging into the small plates. The menu changes daily but we had the puffs, charred turnips and beets, chicken liver tart, baby cabbage with sun choke & bacon and baby carrots with aged beef fat. There were 5 of us and it was plenty for all to share. Every morsel was amazing — seriously, the food was that good — every dish. The only exception was the dessert Caramelized white chocolate, almond buttermilk — it was a let down, very bland but with all the great flavors going on in the meal, it didn’t stand a chance. The atmosphere & décor present that cool uptown vibe. The servers and fellow patrons were super friendly too. I wish it was closer so it could be my favorite neighborhood spot. The food was so amazing that we were all surprised to walk out with at least 2(3?) drinks down, all that food and the bill came out to less than $ 50 each!

What a great addition to the Atlanta dining scene. As soon as you walk in the door the staff is friendly and inviting. The food rivaled some of the best restaurants in Atlanta, all in a laid back atmosphere. My wife and I chose the a la carte menu, and chose a few small plates, many of which were sublime. The smoked mushrooms, chicken liver mousse and pork loin were our favorites. For dessert we had caramelized white chocolate with a buttermilk sorbet which was also amazing. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in atlanta.

Went here on a Saturday night with a friend. I was a little nervous it wouldn’t live up to the hype, but it definitely did. There are two options at Staplehouse: $ 85 tasting menu, five courses which you can add wine pairings to OR the patio menu which has about ten plates to choose from and come a la carte. We sat on the heated back patio and did the a la carte option, splitting all of our dishes, which was definitely the way to go. Between the two of us we ordered 4 dishes and it was filling. Cocktails: I had the El Diablo(tequila) which I really enjoyed. My friend had The Last Word(gin) and would order it again. Dinner: the dishes came out one by one as they were ready. We ordered the broccoli and bacon, chicken liver, scallops, and pork loin. The scallops and cabbage had some of the best sauce I’ve ever had. I thoroughly enjoyed every single dish. I would’ve liked to try even more of the dishes but didn’t have the stomach room. Service: Meg was our server and she was great! Would definitely recommend asking for her. She was very knowledgeable about the dishes and asked us regularly how everything was tasting. Parking: There is lots of street parking, but there is also complimentary valet parking right outside the restaurant. Quick and friendly service! If you’re looking for a good«treat yourself» dinner this is the place to go. Would recommend a reservation on a weekend night-it gets busy. The dining room now allows an option for the tasting menu or a la carte menu, which didn’t used to be the case.

My friend and I were visiting from DC and New Orleans for the New Year Holiday. We happened upon this amazing spot that had a prefixed menu for the night! I have a severe nut and shellfish allergy, and the entire staff was very accommodating! They even made a special dish(ONTHESPOT) when I was nervous about trying a fish based dish. The chef amazed me with his creative flare and quick thinking. The wine pairing with the 8 course meal was divine, and we were constantly impressed by the personal touches by the staff. I don’t drink at all, and the bartender on staff made a nonalcoholic concoction worthy of the highest praises!!! My friend and I dine out all of the time, and we felt so loved in this positive food environment.

The restaurant has a lot of promise, but needs work. Had the tasting menu, and the summary is that it had some standout great items but also some definite miss-fires. The biggest issue is the mismatch in terms of price vs the experience. I understand it supports the giving kitchen, but it is a for profit restaurant, meaning it doesn’t meet the standards of a non-profit, so I don’t know how much of my $s are going to the charity and how much to management salaries etc. So I can only give it so much slack on the pricing knowing that possibly, some unknown % of my meal check may go to charity. Because of the promising items where you could see the culinary passion, and the mission, I will probably revisit later down the road hoping things have refined a bit. Full review: Trendy, chic layout and ‘cool’ no-sign front with an entrance through the back drive in an up-and-coming neighborhood(more coming than up in this particular section). I opted for the tasting menu, trusting the reputation of the chefs here. The first thing I was struck with was the informal look and feel, it did not have the trappings of a fine dining restaurant, more of a casual neighborhood brasserie(waiters and staff uniforms, the table layouts(small and close), lack of fine lighting and fixtures), but nonetheless had a cozy warm feel. Once I saw the prices($ 85pp for the tasting menu, another $ 40pp for the wine pairings, and in the end $ 5 a bottle for water)…that’s when things seemed off. I really enjoy tasting menus, but for prices comparable to the other stalwarts in Atlanta(Restaurant Eugene, Aria), I really expected more from the experience. Both in the refinement of the dishes but also the experience. Unpretentious and approachable is fine, but they can’t expect to charge the mark-up of a highly refined dining experience and deliver something that is much less than. For instance, I was at a table crammed between two other tables along a wall very close, and those other diners were there just for shorter a la carte meals… our conversations overlapped a lot. Lighting didn’t line up with tables. No table cloths. Decent flatware… all fine, just not for the price. The music ranged from outkast to jazz, which again was fine but didn’t give me the feeling of a super high-end, $ 340 check for two, restaurant. Now, on to the food… there were quite a number of amuse-bouches(which they called ‘gifts from the kitchen), including a beverage, and those were perhaps more numerous and thought out than the average tasting menu. Standouts were the pork rind with persimmon butter, the house cured pork salami with peppercorns, and my favorite thing of the night the fermented potato sourdough balls with whipped olive oil — a true delight. Our favorite dish by a margin was the Farro and celeriac dish with sunflower and compressed apple. It was delicate, balanced, unique, and delicious. These standouts(along with the mission and TGK) are the reason I gave the restaurant a 4 and would go back later if things refine a bit as they often do with new restaurants that have promise and great talent in the kitchen. Less successful were a few dishes, including the first couple of things: a ‘gift’ with fermented salmon made japanese style in house, it tasted more like it was done to be experimental than to taste great. The first course, buttermilk, caviar, potato, seaweed — it was a bit one-note and the fried part took over the whole rest of the otherwise light dish. The final desert with teh check was a truffle that was by both of our accounts almost inedible– so salty and pungent… actually very displeasing. Other items that were good but not great like the tartare and the squab… that would be OK at a lower price with lower expectations, but at this top range I would expect the courses to be each either very good or better, and some memorable/exceptional, and also for the meal to have more of a narrative or flow and cohesive culinary perspective. In that vein, all of the dishes together lacked the right flow, and the wine pairings felt a bit soft for me. Great European wines, many obscure varietals, so on their own very good, but just the pairing with the foods themselves seemed soft… it wasn’t immediately obvious to me that each wine should go with each dish, but I’m not an expert on this so I will give the benefit of the doubt. So — great promise, obviously some culinary talent and passion for food, but needs refinement and probably lower prices or a rethink of the model.

Excellent service. Small number of menu items; the ones we tried were very good. Extremely small plates ranging from $ 14 to $ 24 — and even the portions at $ 24 were very small. Cocktail prices were surprisingly reasonable at $ 6 to $ 8 compared to food prices. Recommended only if cost is not a concern.

My new favorite restaurant! We did the chef’s tasting and every bite was delicious. The plates were visually stunning and the food was fresh and inventive. I loved the scallop course! And all the creative bites — mushroom puffs, sunchoke chips, rutabaga and salmon! Dessert was amazing — chocolate tart with carmelized ice cream. Perfection!!! We left full and delighted. The portion sizes were appropriate and allow you to appreciate the food. Service was great with all the food coming out consistently and waitstaff attending to everything without being overbearing. We loved sitting next to the open kitchen as well — great show with great music.

We had a party of four and did the chef’s tasting. The food was good but the portions were ridiculously small for the price. Would have been a different story if there were more courses, but five tiny courses was not enough. Went someplace else afterwards for drinks and had to get a basket of bread since we were still hungry. Ran into someone we knew at Staplehouse who told us as they were leaving«we are still hungry so we are going someplace else to eat now.» We are foodies and don’t mind paying $ 85+ per person for a fixed price/tasting menu, but I shouldn’t leave hungry after paying that much. I’ll go to Bacchanalia any day over this place — I never leave there hungry.

Sigh. A friend said she wanted to celebrate her birthday at Staplehouse. I was charmed by the gorgeous layout(admittedly a bit cramped) and our server was so precise and professional. However, those two factors alone aren’t enough to make me return. The food is grossly overpriced. I ordered a $ 22 scallop dish that came with two scallops. With a party of five, we all tried each other’s plates and I begrudgingly shared one of the prized scallops with the group. I get it, it’s high end. But I walked away hungry at an exorbitant price. Don’t come here if you’re hungry. Go if you’ve already eaten and you’re in the mood for an expensive snack.

We went for our Wedding Anniversary celebration and had an amazing experience! big shout out to Jen who made it all possible. We had initial reservation for 6 pm but my husband was taking my son for the star war movie so we were going to have to miss it! Called them at 5:30pm and Jen moved it to 8:30pm. We sat at the bar and Ben and Sharita were amazing. Best food in Atl hands down and service and quality to match it! Agree with everybody else’s review– I would give them 10 stars if Unilocal would let me! We’ll be back for sure!

My mom is a big fan of such places. She invited me last night for a «small» dinner. Firstly, I would like to say that portions in this restaurant are so HUGE. You can order one portion for two people, and it would be enough for you. Love, love, love it. I would give it 100 stars if I could. From this time I’m a big fan too. Food is nice, dishes were perfectly cooked, especially a desert after our dinner, relatively cheap price for what you are getting!

Something different and delicious! Dishes are meant to be shared. Delightfully off the normal path cuisine with very fine attributes. Mostly organic and natural, full of flavor and daring pairings! Service was top notch and the bartender Ben is so charming and makes quality cocktails. Will definitely return!

I’ve been waiting for Staplehouse to open for awhile now. So happy to report that the food and service were both wonderful on our 1st visit. Staplehouse is Atlanta’s 1st non-profit restaurant benefiting The Giving Kitchen. We dined in the backyard four our late dinner since the dining room is for tasting menu only. I love the patio seating — very cozy & charming. Every dish is carefully sourced & crafted, which I appreciate so much. My only complaint is that maybe 2 of the items we ordered were a bit too salty for me. I believe the menu changes frequently so I won’t go into details of what we ordered. However, I hope the funion appetizer stays on the menu. Looking forward to trying out Staplehouse’s tasting menu next time. Street parking only. Tasting menu in the main dining room(reservations required); a la carte menu for patio & bar seating(1st come 1st serve). Staplehouse didn’t have their alcohol license when we visited on 10÷14÷15.

I’ll be brief: This place belongs in the same high-echelon Atlanta dining category as Restaurant Eugene and Bacchanalia, but with a much different(warmer, more inviting, less pretentious) vibe. We had a fabulous meal there a few weeks ago that is on par with any place else in Atlanta. It’s a really fun night out, with incredible food, in a very lovely space and all in support of a great cause. A+

Fantastic in every regard. Just drop the extra cash and get the wine pairing, the wine was excellent and we loved hearing him explain about each course paired with the wine. The food was fantastic, and the service was the best we’ve had!

Five stars is due the fact that Unilocal won’t let me dole out 10. That’s how many Staplehouse deserves. My dining partner was tardy, so they escorted me to a seat at the bar, where I had a super tasty cocktail made by the non smile withholding bartender. When we were seated, I told them I don’t eat mushrooms– and was afraid Id be labeled as difficult or a non food enthusiast, neither of which are true– I just can’t get mushrooms down. Our server was so accommodating and didn’t make me feel like I had that dreaded«High Maintenance» sign slapped on my forehead. Did I mention our server was flippin incredible? She was fantastic at explaining the food and so sweet. The sommelier was also exceptional. The wine pairings were amazing — definitely get the pairings when you go. Now the food. Wow. Good lord. Yes please. The texture of the sous vide salmon was delightful and unexpected. The crazy talented chef used carrots instead mushrooms in one course, and it was fabulous. The chicken three ways was interesting, innovative, and yummy. The dessert was also memorable, with some sort of brittle deliciousness and creamy, smooth ice cream. We were lucky enough to speak with the beautiful Jen– hearing her story is emotional, beautiful, and inspiring. The hostess was interesting and delightful as well. In fact, the vibe of everyone was positive, pure and unaffected. I’d go there just to feed off the awesome vibes of the team– many of whom are related. A restaurant with an awesome team, inventive food, and philanthropic purpose– Staplehouse knocked my socks off.

We sat outside at Staplehouse and enjoyed several small plates. The ambience is very relaxed — they have their own kitchen for the patio — glass enclosed structure — different menu outside and I must say — every thing we tasted was perfectly seasoned and delicious. The funyons are great — we had roasted squash then mushrooms and farro. Crab stew was delish with roasted leeks. Our final dish was the cheddar wurst — and we loved it! The wine list is small and there is a short list of beers. They just got their liquor license so will be charging a corkage fee for bringing your own wine. Will definitely be back to try the tasting menu inside. You can also eat at the bar ala cadre!

This is an amazing experience. Wonderful food and outstanding service. The patio is inviting. Got to dine with some strangers that became friends by the end of dinner! Can’t wait to come back. The Giving Kitchen is a wonderful cause as well, and this has been a labor of love. #tgk
