Quite shocked by all the negative reviews, and crushed by the news that they have closed! My friend brought me here on my first day in Atlanta, and I had eaten here innumerable times since then. Everybody I brought here loved the food. I really liked the trout filet in a spicy soy sauce, and the chicken in Choo Chee Curry. The hostess and servers were extremely friendly and personable. I was planning to eat here on my next trip to Atlanta!

I’m a bit of a regular here because I simply can’t find any better Thai food. Most other Thai restaurants seem like they emphasize decoration over food, but at Thai Lanna, with its tarp roof with a tree growing through it, it feels like you’re there for the food. The owner is always there working, and started recognizing us before we became regulars; you can’t beat that for personal service!

No, no, no, no, no. This place is not three stars. The folks running the joint(From what I remember, the sister of the owners because they’re back in Thailand for some reason, I can’t remember.) are super nice and always insanely courteous every time I go. We’ve never had bad service there. Never even had mediocre service. They are always amazing and really sweet. And the food is very good. It’s not«Holy crap, this is the best Thai food I’ve ever had in my life,» but it’s pretty close to the real thing and sure as hell light years beyond the Thai joints around here. *cough*Bua*cough* Prices are reasonable, good eats, good service. Seeing that three-star average just upset me so much that I had to add my two cents. Sorry, I’ll get off my soapbox now.

I order the spicy chicken basil with thai hot 5. I have never ordered anything but that and it always has a wonderful taste. My family orders other items and don’t want to go back. I would recommend the spicy chicken basil.

Never again ! Beautiful night, wanted to sit outside and with the exception of two people who were paying a check the restaurant was completely empty. The waitress clearly did not like the fact I was sitting a table of four with a party of one. I was willing to move but not to a table up against the railing she turned said«Sorry» and went back inside WTF ? I turned to leave then went in and asked about what was going on get this, I was informed if I don’t want to sit at a smaller table I won’t be served at an empty restaurant at 9pm at a place that closes at ten . Good luck folks, now your restaurant truly is empty . Oh and the place on Cheshire brdg. was Happy to see me for the second time this week.

There is something about Thai food, that when done well, almost transports you in a magical taste bud journey to Asia. That didn’t happen at Thai Lanna. We never left the parking lot. Everything about Thai Lanna had potential; A giant tree growing inside, dedicated owners, an authentic menu. Yet nothing seemed to rise to it’s potential. The tree seemed imprisoned, the décor haphazard, the food flavors lacked depth. The spring rolls did not seem to be made there, so charging $ 3.75 for two frozen rolls isn’t too cool in my book. Basil noodles were good, and I would order again, the fried rice was way to simple. The plates were aesthetically pleasing, with a banana chip adorning each plate, unfortunately the chip was stale and could only be used for decoration, or to toss to the dusty fake monkeys hanging throughout the restaurant. In the end Thai Lanna isn’t bad, just isn’t great. Would I return? A definite maybe!

I eat lunch here on occasion and it’s pretty good. Not the most authentic but still satisfying.

Against my better judgment, I said«sure» when Jimmy wanted to pull in here and try this place rather than continue the 2 miles to BuHi. Sure I’d read the poor reviews from others, but I wasn’t that hungry, and he wanted to try it, and well, you pick your battles when you’re married and 8 months pregnant. As Addy said, the only interesting about this place is the huge tree that it’s built around. We opted for basil rolls and Tom Yum soup, as we often do. The basil rolls had zero flavor, even when the sweet chili sauce was added, and the skins where so thick that each bite was just a gummy mess. Jimmy’s Tom Yum soup had some flavor, mostly of overcooked chili peppers. For the mains we had the spicy basil delight with shrimp and the basil noodles with chicken. The basil noodles with chicken tasted as if it had come from a microwave meal — everything was dried out and flavorless. I ended up stealing some of the juice from the spicy basil delight just to make the noodles palatable. However, none of it was spicy. We’d gone since we’re both dealing with congestion and needed something warm and spicy to clear us out, and this food just left us with a bad taste in our mouth… And when coupled with the prices, definitely not worth it, even thought the service was very friendly, and there was a guy playing his harmonica in the other room providing charming mood music, including the Star-Spangled Banner. Just keep going until you get to BuHi.

I came here with a crew for lunch with the recommendation from one of my coworkers who said it was a great dive spot. We were served a sour spicy soup which was okay but I had better. I felt the soup lacked additional flavor and the texture of the chicken was tough and the cabage looked like it was recently added and not cooked enough. I had the Masamune curry and it was quite good and just what I expected. I requested a spice level 3 but I think I could have gone up to 4 or 5. The spice level goes up to 10. Secret: The default spice is a 1(not spicy) when ordering, and the waitress did not proactively ask for a desired spiciness level; you will need to request it. I always recommend a little spiciness to get good Thai flavoring. They have this covered but out-side seating area with a tree growing through the roof. It is charming but others have said that you need to avoid sitting near the tree when it is raining.

We have never had a bad meal at Thai Lanna. Yes, the strip mall it is in can definitely steer you away(my husband calls it Epcot Center because you can get Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Pub all in one small shopping center), but the food and service have always been great. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, but we typically stick to our favorites. For starters, I recommend the Tom Kha Kai(chicken coconut soup) or the Fresh Basil Rolls. I recommend the Massaman Curry dish with chicken for your main entrée. Prices are cheap and it’s always pretty quick. Don’t expect much of a wine menu, but the few they have aren’t terrible.

I have eaten at theis restaurant for over 6 with my boys. I have never eaten there for lunch. We usually walk there for dinner because the place is located near our home. No, the décor is nothing wonderful, but we enjoy the food. We have never had a bad meal. The coconut chicken soup is very tasty. I usually order the green curry, vegetarian, and I ask for it very spicey. If ya really like spicey hot dishes – like I do, they will accomidate you. My younger son likes a milder curry, and they make it to suit him. The masaman is also tasty and is made as spicy or mild as you request. The non-fried spring rolls with the peanut sauce are also yummy. We’ve never had the fried ones. The pad thai is also wonderful I’ve read the nevative reviews about less than tasty soup at lunch, tasteless fried rice, and such. We love Thai food.

So I was taking a client out to this area to look at prospective homes and she mentioned Corner Pizza and Thai Lanna. Not knowing either of these, and needing to make an executive decision for lunch, I referenced Unilocal to see which would be best. Thai Lanna had three stars and my client felt like Thai. So be it. We stopped in for lunch. Lunch specials came with a Tum Yum soup with cabbage and very minimal chicken in it. The Tum Yum tasted like the kind you can make from instant noodles. I ordered the Basil noodles, assuming of course that this would be Pad Kee Mao. What I got was a greasy, oily noodle dish which looked and tasted very mediocre. I was VERY disappointed. My client’s Penang came out with zucchini and cabbage in it. Are you serious??? Just as one of the other Unilocalers mentioned, there was no basil in the dish even though it actually was listed on the menu. Service was fine, but the food(at least from these two trials) needs help. Walking out I saw the kitchen consisted of two Mexican workers. I must suggest that they get an asian, preferably Thai in there ASAP!

I could have sworn I already reviewed this place. I used to live down the street from Thai Lanna, and I was SO excited when it first opened up! I love Thai food, and was hoping that this place would become one of my new favorites. Sadly, it was not meant to be. I found the food to be bland and uninspiring. The service was perfectly nice and friendly, but I just was not impressed with my food… nothing stood out. I expect my Thai food to be flavorful and spicy, and this was neither. However, I did like the tree growing through the front room.

Not anywhere near the best Thai food you’ll find, but still slightly above-average. I’ve mainly had the curries(masaman & red) which are maybe a HAIR smaller than the portions you’ll get elsewhere, but are actually quite tasty and well-prepared. The staff is very friendly and concerned about your experience, so those of you complaining about the décor should feel free to mention it to an employee. I hope they laugh in your face and send you to CiCi’s. It’s food, not an art gallery. Stop whining.

So the only interesting thing about this restaurant is that it was built around this huge tree that lives in the middle of the restaurant and goes right through the roof. Everything else was just ok. I came with a co-worker, and we ordered the lunch specials. Almost all dishes are $ 6.50, and they have quite an extensive list of menu choices. Lunch comes with Tom Yum soup, which had shredded cabbage & chicken. It tasted ok and it was pretty spicy — I had to stop eating it after a chili pepper got caught in my throat. I ordered the«Penang Curry Chicken» which had bell peppers, zucchini(which wasn’t listed on the menu), and no basil leaves(menu listed basil leaves). The dish tasted good at first but after several bites … boring. Maybe it was the missing basil. The curry was very runny, too. My co-worker ordered the«Ginger Tofu & Vegetables» which she says she orders all the time. I probably should’ve tried a taste of hers to see if maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. As for atmosphere, feels like a dive. Service — friendly. I haven’t given up on Thai Lanna yet, mostly b/c it’s close to work, it’s only my first visit, and two different co-workers raved this was their favorite Thai restaurant. Hopefully I’ll order better next time — and I’m ok with being disappointed again b/c lunch is only $ 6.50.

I always see this place when I’m sitting at the light at the Johnson Ferry/Ashford Dunwoody intersection so when I got an itching for Thai takeout we gave it a try. Our order was ready in less than 15 minutes — that should have been my first clue. The speedy service was a plus but the food left something to be desired — like taste. The shrimp cakes were cold and rubbery. It was almost like they were cooked earlier in the day, left out and then heated up in the microwave when we called in our order. My Pad Thai wasn’t that great either. I’ve had better on the few occasions that I eat Thai food. It wasn’t all bad, though. My boyfriend liked what he got — the green curry. In the end, I wasn’t happy with the dinner and I don’t think I would go back.

No air condition, and a huge tree in the middle of the restaurant… «Things is that make you go mmmmmm» Co-workers and I had lunch there, and it was pretty good. The service was good, and if you ask for the 3 pepper spice, watch out. IT“S Spicy Meatball! The six of us ate there for less than $ 60. Overall it was very good. I will go back!

We recently moved to this neighborhood and love thai food, so we were hoping Thai Lanna would be good. We have eaten there twice and got take-out once, and overall I would say it’s fairly good. The menu has your typical thai items and nothing really sticks out as a special dish. Décor here is terrible; it definitely low-class for a thai restaurant. There is actually a full-grown tree that is in the middle of the place, which is interesting to say the least. I will eat here when I have a big thai craving and don’t want to drive far. Otherwise I’d rather make the drive to Top Spice in Druid Hills.
