History

Established in 2004.

The Basement has been producing Improv Comedy since April 1, 2004.

Over the past 7 years The Basement has expanded and grown from 24 seats to our current 50 seats.

We create new and original improv shows for our audiences, as well as teach improv acting classes and do special events and parties.

2009 marked our 1st annual Spontaneous Combustion improv festival bringing improv groups from across the country, including TV stars from NBC, MTV and MADtv. Look for Spon Com 4 — March 7 – 11, 2012.

The Basement players take their shows on the road too… travelling around the country to other improv festivals.

All of our shows are 100% improvised, all based on Audience Suggestions.

Come hang out with us Down In The Basement.

Meet the Business Owner

JSTAR S.

Business Owner

J* (artistic director /founder /player) started his acting career on the stage his grandfather built for him in his childhood basement. He’s come a long way!

After returning to Atlanta from New York in 2000,

J* began studying improv with Laughing Matters.

The improv bug bit hard and never let go. He soon joined 2nd Base Improv in Roswell. Then in 2003 he began his own troupe in the basement of 175 West Wieuca. Since then he has travelled the country performing and seeking out the wisdom of the improv greats.

J* has studied extensively around the country with

Annoyance Theatre (Chicago)

iO (Improv Olympic, Chicago)

Loose Moose Theatre Co.(Calgary)

Second City (Chicago, LA, & Las Vegas)

UCB (Upright Citizen’s Brigade, NYC)

He still finds time for the occassional movie role, or TV commercial.

J* also teaches improv at MILL SPRINGS ACADEMY and PIERIAN SPRINGS schools.
