The Emory Clinic

This review is about Emory Clinic Midtown only, and not any other Emory location or department. It seems to be where minor league players are sent by the franchise to prove themselves in a game of Survivor. This includes doctors, nurses, nursing assistants and administrators who are focused on pushing the cattle through the system. The most obvious red flag is how demoralized everyone is.
Management procedures are so cumbersome and inefficient as to be detrimental to the health and well-​being of the public. In 2012 there is no voice mail or email system. Despite the size of this practice, there are no doctors on call after hours.
During business hours, one is at the mercy of a telephone operator’s understanding of a medical question, which is relayed to a medically ignorant assistant who then interprets it to the doctor (if he or she feels like it). If you are a fairly healthy person looking for primary and preventive care, this is not the place. You will get a cursory physical exam, and have redundant lab tests. They then recommend seeing specialist after specialist for every small thing (herding you to other Emory departments, although without guidance as to finding the right specialist for your situation and without consultation). A person at end of life is treated like a short term cash cow to be milked. Emory Clinic Midtown is an exemplar of all that is wrong with the U.S. medical industry today.
I am not naming any individual physician, as I believe these younger doctors are trapped in a bloated out-​of-​control corporate system run by consultants and managers, whose focus is on volume and profit.

I’ve been coming to this Emory Clinic for almost 9 years now. I originally saw Dr. Cassoobhoy, who I loved and adored, but she retired to raise her children. I now see Dr. Tiffany Vetter, who started at this Emory Clinic a year or so ago. Dr. Vetter is AMAZING. I’m a mid-​20s female and appreciate a doctor who can relate to my health issues and concerns. She always takes my questions seriously but has a good sense of humor about the funny things the human body does.
The support staff, such as nurses, are super friendly and efficient. They are great about telling you how long you’ll be waiting for the doctor to come in and what to expect in the upcoming visit.
I make my appointments in advance, however, the few times I was deathly ill and needed to be seen immediately, the staff I talked to on the phone were very accomodating. If they couldn’t rearrange Dr. Vetter’s schedule they always gave me the openings in the other Emory Clinic doctor’s staff and saw me within a few hours of calling.
The other great thing about this Emory Clinic’s location in Crawford Long Hospital is it has every type of specialist in the same building. Dr. Vetter has always been upfront with when I needed to see a specialist and I could just take the elevator to that office and make my appointment in person, which I really like. There is also a great pharmacy on the 14^th floor.
Remember, you will have to pay for parking in the Crawford Long deck, but if you have the time, you can always take Marta and it’s a short walk from the Civic Center station.
