The Kaufman Clinic

I am a Registered Nurse with another major healthcare organization. I went to these doctors for 18 months begging for a diagnosis that was as simple as the right lab work and the right X-​rays. Finally after seeing 17 of the physicians that I’ve worked alongside of and used to respect, I had one foot in the grave and one on a banana peel! Fed up with all the ignorant, uncaring medical «professionals?», I paid for my own records and went running to Dr Kaufmann, and in less than 24 hours, he had found what I expected and was therefore begging the other doctors for! Now I have witnessed the rudeness, disorganization, referrals that are never completed, and even Dr Kaufmann being much more distant and less caring and attentive than when I started a year ago.
BUT WITHOUT HIS SHARP, INTELLIGENT MIND, CARED ENOUGH TO LOOK PAST FALSIFIED INFORMATION IN MY PREVIOUS MEDICAL RECORDS, AND PHYSICIAN CONNECTIONS — — I WOULD BE D E A D!
Seriously, I’m an RN and I completely watched him pull me from the jaws of death!
So I’ll just put up with his temperament and golf outings. No other Dr cares about his patients enough to give out his personal cell phone number! I’ve felt less noticed with the Drs I’ve worked with. I’m still not able to return to work. With that comes a mound of paperwork. All my other doctors charge $ 25 per page they sign! Seriously, I paid the surgeon $ 250 in one month and had to make 2 trips to get everything I needed. Dr. Kaufmann takes time to complete and sign all my paperwork while he’s in the room — FREE OF CHARGE! So let me tell the nay Sayers, the things you’ve complained about The Kaufmann Clinic, consider this normal mode of action for the healthcare industry. Yep, it’s wrong, but it’s the fact everyone is trying to see through. I could tell you hundreds of horror stories that I’ve seen happen in the hospital as well as outpatient. I swear every time I run into the ignorant providers that I work for, I just say, «you too can be a dr!» Sad but true. When your nurse is more interested in your safety and good patient care, than your doctors, you’re already in the pits! I too have told patients with serious health issues, «Get out of here and get to Emory!» Unfortunately, my friends didn’t heed my warning and their 31 year old son died at my facility. So don’t be too quick to judge an overworked dr, underpaid and overworked staff for their rudeness or disorganization, until you’ve worked in this industry, you can’t believe what you’re experiencing. It’s wrong in every way, but welcome to socialized healthcare and expect it to get worse. For me, I’m sticking with the only physician who cared enough to look past the initials after his name, and listen to his patients suggestion (even though I’m a nurse).

I’m honestly surprised at all the negative reviews. My insurance changed January 1^st, like alot of folks, and my old primary care physician doesn’t take my new insurance. I’m religious about getting my annual physical exam, and I had made an appointment with another practice that said they took my insurance as did the insurance company website, and I went in for my bloodwork (you had to go before the appointment), and was informed that in fact they actually didn’t take my insurance. So, I was left scrambling to find a new primary care physician’s office that wasn’t booked for months for a new patient physical… so I called the Kaufmann Clinic and was informed that they could do it the same day as a walk-​in, and to just come on in…
I get there at my appointment time, and fill out the digital paperwork, and take my seat in the waiting room… I was in the waiting room for no more than 10 minutes. I was quickly taken back, and the nurse got my history, and vitals, and I was taken to the exam room. Less than 5 minutes later, the doctor (Dr. Pelishev) came in, and we talked about my health history, goals, etc. and he was super personable, funny, and thorough. We did the exam, he did the EKG, and they took bloodwork all in the office. Overall, I can’t say I have any complaints at all and I highly recommend them. That’s big from me, since I’m super picky when it comes to medical professionals.

These folks are just horrible. They always run really behind, and on my wife’s most recent visit, they were **3 HOURS** late for her appointment at noon (less than halfway through the day). Their justification: They were running behind. If they are that bad at something as simple as staying remotely on schedule, I can’t trust them to be competent with my health either. This is inexcusable.

After we used this doctor’s office on a reality show I worked on for our contestants physicals, I decided to give his office a try considering I needed a new doctor now that I live in Atlanta. He was not the doctor they gave me. I saw another doctor that had no idea what endometriosis is and asked what was wrong with me that I had to have my shoulder replaced after an accident a couple years ago. I just needed my birth control injection and to get the ball rolling on having this office be my new general practitioner. He insisted on drug testing me to check to see if I was in fact on the medications I was «claiming» to be on since my records had not come by fax yet. He was so rude and condescending. When I left the office with my weeks worth of prescriptions — I am told at the pharmacy that each were written incorrectly and I would have to go back to the doctor the next day. I work on a major TV show 13 hours a day at least and don’t have time to do this. They proceed to write them wrong or forget to call them in 4 times in a week, completely wasting my time. I go in today to pick up the correct ones only to be told they couldn’t see me as a patient because of my long term anxiety disorder treatments and my shoulder surgery; that it was too intricate. He also said I failed my drug test and had circled a medication that was literally listed 30+ times in my recently received faxed medical records and as an adult it was inexcusable that I failed to mention a medication I’ve been on for years in case of a rare severe panic attack. I was literally in tears and could not believe this grown man was treating me how he was treating me. A nurse was so upset by his berating me that she looked up my cell number and texted me a very heartfelt apology and confessed I was honestly better off anywhere else. I never even saw Dr. Kaufman because he was playing golf most days according to the staff.

I’ve been going to Dr Kaufmann for 15 years and am usually seen by his excellent PA, Perry. The nurses have been there forever and are top notch also. The wait can be a little long, but I find that if I go after work on Friday, the wait is minimal.

Can’t believe there are negative reviews about my favorite doctor’s office (and I’m the type that doesn’t even like going to the doctor). I’ve been going here since 2005 and have received only the best service every time. I don’t go that often so I tend to save up my questions/​comments/​concerns for 1 – 2 annual visits. I’ve never left feeling like I didn’t get a thorough answer to every question or a referral needed to further explore an issue where required.
Everyone is funny and efficient — I get in and out quickly on most occasions. And if I need a refill, I can get it the same day, no problem, unless it is something that requires a follow up visit.

Dr. Kaufmann doesn’t care about his patients, just the money that contributes to his lifestyle. He is good for refilling all Rxs though.

I live in San Diego now and wish I could find someone like Dr. Kaufman out here. I saw him a year ago and had major concerns. He did not prescribe any medications (like most docs would have) right away instead he ordered tests, an MRI, etc, and everything was done quickly. He genuinely spent time with me and I never felt rushed. Always thought the nurses were fantastic as well.

Depends on the day and the year. When I first started going there they were great. Now they never returns calls from patients or pharmacy. Have to hound them to get referrals and test results.

Yesterday I received a phone call from this doctor’s office to report on my test results. They told me they were «still waiting» for the results from the expensive test they’d ordered… the one I’d canceled over a month ago. (They’re going to have a long wait!) To add to my prior negative review, when I called the office to cancel the test, they informed me that they had me scheduled for ANOTHER test, one that the doctor had told the med student with us was «crap» and wouldn’t yield useful results. I was told that I had sat down with a live person and scheduled the test with her (that is, the «crap» test) — which had never happened.
I also received a bill from another clinic with someone else’s name on it, mailed to that person at my home address (didn’t open it, returned to sender). The privacy implications for that kind of mistake are pretty significant.
Clearly all is not well with communication within this office, as well as communication with patients. Very happy to have found a better doctor elsewhere. Really — don’t go here. If I could give zero stars, I would.

I have nothing but good things to say about these guys. I’ve been here for 4 visits now and they are always fast and friendly.

This doctor came recommended to me by another doctor (who I really like a lot), but for what reason he rec’d this guy, I have no clue. Aside from his cocky, pompous «I’m holier than thou» attitude, I’m sure deep down inside he’s genuinely concerned for other people’s welfare, as a good doctor should be. However, that part or even a glimpse into that side of him has yet to be revealed.
Recently, he prescribed a medication to me and failed to divulge some pretty important side effects, which completely messed up my system. Upon confronting him in my next visit, he denied any knowledge of this drug’s negative side effects and had this lackadaisical, disinterested attitude about the whole thing. You need a doctor who you can trust to provide you with the care and knowledge you need. This is not your guy. This guy, Dr. Kaufmann, gives Emory a bad name.
