Love it here. Sux Rob doesn’t work here any more but I understand he had to leave and go back home to TN. There is one lady who has been here for ages. She’s just as awesome.

Wings are always delicious. Service is friendly and quick. Me and my roommate frequent this place about once a week to satisfy our fried cravings. I recommended them to everyone.

JR Crickets has some of the best wings in Atlanta. Not only are they flavorful, but you can create your own custom flavors. If you would like lemon pepper with some hot sauce you can. If you want some flavors mixed together you can, but you will have to pay. Not terrible expensive, very reasonable.
Parking located in the varsity parking lot. This place is always packed, however they still move pretty quickly, and get your food out quickly. Even better, you can even ahead of time, and pick up when you arrive, very convenient on the weekends.
They do offer subs and other foods BUT
Best wings in Atlanta.

Wings are well known through the city. Tasty and good. Not much fan fare. Parking is difficult. Definitely make your order to go. Even better call aheard.

It was Friday night (³⁄₂₉) & my friend kept saying she was craving some wings. First she said Dugans. I said naw’ll (Southern slang for «no»). Then she said how about JR Crickets? Since I dont eat meat, as long as I can get some french fries, I’m good I told her. Mmmaaannnn! I had a shrimp basket & fries with a pink lemonade. So much food that I had to take it home with me. Good eating. Nice mature crowd, in other words: no riff raff! Waitress was nice too. Will go back when I go home again!

What? Did she just say OK? OMG they make custom wangs… I was over-​the-​moon. I prefer my wangs be crispy as opposed to drown in sauce, and guess what? JR Crickets can make it. However you want it, they can make it.
My meal came with Chicken, Shrimp and Fries… and I ate ALL of it. I was licking my fingers and «Oohing and Ahhing» all loud. It was so good I had to tell them how good it was.
This is a definite must try while in the A. OMG I’m hongree just thinking about it.

Wonderful Atlanta landmark across the street from the Varsity and walking distance from the Georgia Tech campus. Anyone who grew up in the Atlanta metro area usually took field trips into the city and they would always stop at the Varsity for lunch. I would always sneak across the street to this spot because the wings are phenomenal! I have been a customer since elementary school and still love the food to this day. I’m a traditionalists and stick to the wings but over the years they have expanded their menu to salads, sandwiches, and even fish! If you ‘friend’ them on Facebook, you can get discounts or even free wings (everything tastes better when it’s free)! Their old skool so the aren’t going to serve you with great big helpings of false enthusiasm people today take for customer service. What they will do is cook your food fresh and serve it hot and tasty!
And the next time you dine in, sit upstairs at the bar table to the far right, you’ll see my name carved into the table and wall! Feel free to add yours too!

So, I see that J.R. Crickets has gotten a lot of ratings.
It was recommended to me by a co-​worker.
So a friend and I went… Needless to say maybe we went on one of their «off nights.»
Customer Service was horrible. They treated us as if we knew the «routine»
Noone set us to out seats, we set ourselves, after 10 minutes, we went back downstairs thinking we needed to order at the counter… we were rudely told to go back and sit down «she would be with us.» We sat for 15 minutes before a waitress finally came, assuming we had menus… I’d already looked up the menu on-​line… It was hot and again customer service is 0 (Zero). My friend enjoyed the food. I took mine home and it’s been five days and it’s still in his fridge (I guess)!!!
Needless to say, I won’t return!

Five stars on Unilocal means «Woohoo! As good as it gets!»
Well, that is exactly what JR Crickets deserves, for these are the best wings I have ever eaten. All I have to say is get PLAIN WINGS, EXTRA CRISPY, SAUCE ON THE SIDE. Also, if you like blue cheese or ranch, they make it from scratch every day.
Seriously, the best.

I have been going here quite a while after work and i MUST say I went for the wings I was looking for OMG its the spicy and lemon pepper ones I keep forgetting the name BUT them wings are on fire meaning super delicious!!!
What is great is they remember a face which is great and the customer service and just amazing they aren’t rude, rushing you, nada.
One worker made me feel extra good by bringing out my food directly to me she is short and a little older but she looks like she is chill yet comfortable. Mind you she made the food not took my order. So yes I will be returning for the food and service!

Good, standard wings. Not particularly overwhelming, but extremely tasty nonetheless — and WAY better than any other wings I’ve had in the area.
The lemon pepper is absolutely amazing — nice and salty. I find myself wanting them more and more.
The half off deal for wings on Mondays is hard to beat! :D

hot wings = crispy + spicy + crave worthy
BBQ ribs = tender + tangy sauce + nice char
onion rings = heavy coating + decent
i always stand by taco mac’s hot wings with three mile island. every few months, i MUST EAT HOT WINGS. it’s a pang that i simply cannot ignore. but my most recent pang wasn’t quite as strong, so i decided to venture outside of my norm. i’m glad i did! JR’s is a complete hole in the wall that probably hasn’t been redecorated since they opened in 1982. their wings are cheaper than taco mac, AND they have an amazing creamy garlic sauce that i couldn’t get enough of. i was drowning my celery sticks in it. the side of ribs was just so indulgent, that we had to order it. the menu read 3 ribs, but we probably got closer to 5. they weren’t fat matt’s, but they were good. i like tangier BBQ sauce, and theirs was a nice balance of sweet and tang. i think i found a new wing spot that isn’t a douchey franchise! woohoo!

If you’re from Atlanta you will never forget that slogan.
If you’re on your Atlanta food tour and you leave the Varsity and still have the stomach for more greasy goodness, mozy over to JR Crickets. This place has all different kinds of wings that suit every taste. There are also many other things to choose from to eat… I have had the turkey burger and some type of salad. They didn’t disappoint. Drinks are good also. A good late night spot if you’re in the midtown area for any reason.
There are many other locations around the city but this one is one of the originals. The other one is on Cascade Road.

After writing a review about my less than stellar service, the owner of the restaurant contacted me. He assured me that my concerns would be addressed and offered me a complimentary meal. I took him up on his offered and told him I would pick it up under an assumed name, so that I may try to assess the restaurant again without special treatment.
I went to the restauraunt around 6:30 pm and there was only one other customer present. When I stepped up to the counter the same man that had been at the counter during my last visit was there. He asked me what I would like and then when he saw who I was I knew he recognized me, and I felt that he had probably been talked to about the situation because he had a smile of apology on his face. He took it upon himself to apologize and I felt it was genuine.
I went on to order 10 Wings (hot) a large cup of blue cheese (I forgot to mention in my last review that my favorite thing about their restaurant is indeed their blue cheese that they make every single day by hand) and a slice of their strawberry cake. I did get the wings swimming in sauce, and this made the wings a lot better. They weren’t dry and were very flavorful. The fries were a bit soggy still and I wish they were a lot crispier.
Overall this has been my best experience at JR Crickets and if the service is like this all the time I will definitely return. This visit may have been biased by the staff sensing why I was there, but I believe the owner truly did address the issue with his staff. Of course I will have to return again on a busy night to confirm that the new change is permanent, but I believe there will be a change at this historic wing joint.

wow, what a turn around… I must say it may have just been a bad day for the team last time I was in.
Staff — friendly, fast, and helpful giving recommendations on sauces and new items to try.
food — had the Buffalo hot sauce… not quite a buffalo sauce, but it has a flavorful, spicy, vinegar kick that stays hot and tasty until the end. (PS order them swimming in sauce!)
What else? well, the secret is that I took my father who still lives in Buffalo this time… he liked the food a lot, especially recommended the honey mustard sauce (apparently real honey unlike some of the competition) He also loved getting a pile of fries so high that he couldn’t finish them (he tried)…all in all, he said they could fit right in Buffalo today and be a place to stop and grab some food.
His suggestions? Well, he wanted to see a Beef and Weck and Friday Fish Fry… but we all know that THOSE Buffalo foods are hard to come by anywhere in Atlanta… love to see them on JR’s menu, but I think that some comfort food is best served where’s its from.
Will I be back? Yup. Next time, I’m not picking what to order, I’ll just stick with the staff recommendations.

The wings are small, fried, bites of goodness, BUT you have to choose the right seasoning or you’ll feel like Unilocal failed you.
Don’t order the fester wings (spicy lemon pepper). Sounds good right? But, not so much. They are ridiculously salty… it’s like straight eating a block of salt. Totally not edible and I had to throw it out… what a waste!
Do order the regular wings HOT! It’s not very spicy! You can take it! I bet the wings just naked without sauce would also be good.

$ 20 is a little more than I’m used to paying for 20 wings, but where else are you going to get them in Midtown? Really. Tell me because I’d love to know. Anyway…
Since they seem to have the market cornered, I’m glad to come here and get my fix. A lot of people apparently rely on this store for their livelihood. I can appreciate that and I respect it. On that note, I’m glad to pay a little more for wings.
The people that work here are really nice. Walking in isn’t very welcoming and it’s kind of intimidating. It feels like a speakeasy for chicken. The cashier was really cool and helped me split up my order and my meal lasted until the next day. All right for hot barbecue sauce. Nom, nom, nomz!

Sooo after a wonderful recommendation for the best wings in town and a bonus Unilocal offer, my boyfriend and I decided this would be our final dining experience before our departing flight out of ATL (sigh)…
Anywho! We ordered the 20pcs wings with fries and a side order of clam strips and it came to about $ 18. Thankful for the 20% Unilocal check in offer…

Oh JR Crickets… I think this is the first place I came to 3 years ago when I moved to Atlanta to go to school. We used to come here like every Monday since they offered that discount to students for half off, which is a GREAT deal if you get like 75 wings and eat them between 4 – 6 guys! It’s pretty awesome.
That was back then though, by now I’ve kinda realized that there’s better places, both for wings and overall. For a chain, its pretty mediocre, and despite the good deal for a student, I can see it being way too expensive for the regular price or on another day of the week, especially since there is so little meat on the wings.
All in all, not a bad place, but nothing special. Still, this place will always hold some memories
