Thunderbox Rehearsal Studios

I’ve been in a variety of ATL area practice spaces for nearly 20 years. Thunderbox is far and away the best, most professional, cleanest and safest.
Rooms are in a variety of sizes and many bands room share to save dough. Carts are in working order and there is a large loading dock. Lights always work and there are cameras on the parking lot. There is heat and air, but it’s a big warehouse so fans are a good idea in the summer — and the winter as a room will heat up pretty quick with a few amps running and people pounding away. There are vending machines for drinks and basic musician necessities like strings for emergency situations. Seriously, where else do they have clean bathroom with not only TP, but also soap and paper towels?
I’ve been here for about 9 years and I hope to make it at least that many more.

I’ve been practicing here in various bands for at least 3 years. Its a clean, safe and convenient place to get your band ready to play out. The building has a ramp and lots of loading carts to make the in and out easy. The rooms are climate controlled fairly well, though in the heat of the summer, you’ll need some fans going, as the rooms get hot with all the amps and adrenaline running. I accidentally left my Les Paul in the hallway one night (or should I say the person who was supposed to carry it for me left it) and I didn’t realize it til I got home. Someone found it, and put it in their space and left a note under the door. I got it back 2 days later. I’m still amazed.
The only complaint is that if you’re practicing the same time as some of the REALLLY LOUD BANDS that are out here, you may have trouble with the noise interference, but the solution is really to TURN IT UP and we all want to do that anyway right? Ted is the one you contact to work out the details for your space etc. and he’s very helpful. Big Thumbs up Thunderbox, you ROCK!

Did a photo shoot here the other day and accidentally left behind a piece of rental gear. The management went well beyond the call of duty in helping me find it, which definitely saved me some cash. I certainly got the impression that it’s a rather safe place to lock up your stuff and moreover that the people are really chill and hugely respectful of one another. I’d highly recommend the space.

Thunderbox is a rather large warehouse set up to allow band to rehearse ²⁴⁄₇ in an easy access, comortable location. The rooms are large and not too stuffy and can fit several bands per room (4 bands share the space I use) which makes the rent quite affordable per member. There is coded access to the entry, and large load in gates and ramps for easy load-​in load-​out access. The rooms obviously have a bit of bleed soundwise, but not to the point that it is bothersome. And as you’d imagine, being a rehearsal studio, it’s not the most beautiful surroundings ever, but your standard warehouse feel, mostly clean, as well as a lounge area with bathrooms and vending. I’ve practiced at a couple different places in Atlanta and found Thunderbox to be the most suitable.
There’s a pretty wide array of bands here. You can get some pretty big laughs from time to time walking down the halls. I’ve heard a guy with an Asian accent singing ‘Police and Thieves’ by the Clash. I’ve heard about fifty bands who are all about Stain’d. I’ve seen several guys wearing makeup to band practice. These dudes ‘gig out’ professionally and are all about it. It’s almost worth coming by to have a peek even if you aren’t interested in renting. Delicious.
