Yami Yami Japanese Restaurant

$ 7.99 for 6 pieces of sushi and 1 side! This is a great deal for a delicious lunch. They take credit cards, but if you pay with cash, they will give you a Thai Milk Tea for free!
In the beginning, I was pretty skeptical about food court buffet style sushi. However, both the nigiri and sushi rolls I’ve tried here have been good. I would place them above the prepackaged sushi from the grocery store. I love that you can mix and match pieces so that you’re not stuck with just 1 or 2 rolls. The seaweed salad was crunchy and nicely seasoned. Their $ 2 beef soup was pretty tasty.
The line can get pretty long around noon, but it goes pretty quickly. There some tables in front of the cashier that you can sit and eat your lunch. There’s, of course, more seating in the main food court area if you can’t find one near Yami Yami.

Not impressed at all. Make sure to check if the sushi is fresh. Too bad, the location is amazing. Maybe having the sushi out like that isn’t the best idea… since they get hard after being out for a while.

Compare to fast food, udon is alright but pricy. California rolls are good. Located inside the mall food court. If staying at Hilton, use the upstairs connector. It links directly to the mall.

Yami Yami, a fast food Japanese restaurant, is a quick stop for average sushi but nothing more. No one should be looking for stellar sushi in the Peachtree Center’s food court anyway.
The restaurant serves a Panda Express-​esque Japanese hot food such as fried rice and chicken in addition to sushi. I got the California roll, which came in eight pieces for $ 4.99. While it was not bad, it wasn’t anything rave-​worthy. The sushi was better than your standard Chinese buffet’s sushi, so you don’t have to worry about having restroom regrets afterwards.
If you want to just fill up your stomach with Japanese food, Yami Yami is it. Otherwise. you should venture elsewhere if you are looking for something more than subsidence.

I love diamonds in the rough like Yami Yami. Unassuming food court option that was absolutely delicious. We had the Udon with a handsome serving of noodles, and then 4 rolls of sushi. My favorite sushi roll was the «Marilyn Monroe roll», and not just because I found the name unique. Each sushi roll we selected tasted fresh and flavorful. All for a good price. 5 stars!

Amazing find! Delicious, fresh sushi (the Yami Roll is particularly good) and noodles. The milk teas are wonderful as well. An awesome place for a sushi and noodle fix, and the best food court restaurant I’ve ever been to.

This place doesn’t even deserve a single star. I ordered a fish from the menu which sounded pretty good, but when they brought the fish out to me, the plastic foam container that they put the fish in had melted from the heat of the fish, and hardened ontop of the fish.
The server noticed it and asked the chef to re-​package it instead of throwing the plastic coated fish away, or at the very least cutting that part out. The chef does so, and they try to give me this poison filled food for my dinner.
Now, I try and tell them that I don’t want this plastic coated fish, but they seem to think nothing is wrong with it. They also refused to issue me back a refund, because I staging up refuse to eat anything else from this poison factory.
So do not go here, unless you want poisonous toxins in your food.

I tried the $ 5.99 meal. Lots of food and it was really good! The curry chicken was delicious. So affordable and awesome food. I’d try them again!

I like the self-​serve aspect of the restaurant. Sushi roll was forgettable — I wouldn’t bother with that section of the menu. However, the spicy chicken and fried rice were quite decent, both having enough flavor to not require my dumping half a bottle of sriracha on them. Seaweed salad very good.

Probably the best «fast» food option in this part of downtown. I really liked the a-​la-​cart sushi: they have different lunch combos that include them. The curry chicken was just ok; I think it’s made from a box rather than from scratch. Still, this place is way better than all of the fast food around it, give it a try!

Great food! I love eating here. The food is always just right and beats out so many other Chinese restaurants. Fried sweet potatoes are now a regular craving.

Kudos for making the sushi right in front of you instead of pulling it out of a package in the fridge. Overall sushi wasn’t very tasty. It lacked flavor and the ingredients didn’t taste very fresh.

I haven’t eaten lunch here but I have picked up dinner a few times while staying in the area for work. I ordered some to go sushi rolls and also picked up some prepackaged sushi I expect was from lunch. The freshly made rolls were great — I am addicted to spicy CA rolls and have had them twice now. It’s not cheap, but it’s not so expensive I wouldn’t go back. All in all — good for a quick take out dinner while traveling.

I ordered miso ramen and sat down. 20 minutes went by and nothing. I went to check on the order and they apparently had forgotten the noodle in the cooker. She served the overcooked noodle to me anyways. I would have been more forgiving if it was a busy day. But it’s nearly empty with no one around. I think they need to work on communication. This joint probably wouldn’t last long…

Not bad for a quick stop sushi joint. Ordered rolls and a variety of noodles over 2 days for lunch. Service friendly and no mistakes on orders!

In Atlanta for business, and quickly running out of «to go» dinner choices on a rainy evening, I decided to dare Yami Yami, despite seeing reviews all over the place.
Well.guess I was warned. I got a mix of a couple sushi rolls, and decided to get some of the buffet take out. Maybe this is where I went completely wrong. The stuff obviously had been sitting around for a LONG time… like. maybe since 10am.

My sushi was very good though. Made to order, and good enough for take out from a food court right? The buffet was a total and complete fail though. Most of it wound up in the trash can. Sushi only thing saving this spot from a solo star.
If I eat here again, it will be my own fault, and I’ll surely be a Dummi Dummi.

One word: ripoff.
As of 9÷10÷2013, I’d only written 16 one-​star reviews out of 1,366 total reviews (1.17%). Yami Yami is #17 — that’s how much fail this restaurant was to me.
Yami Yami is sushi restaurant located in the Peachtree Center Mall food court. While walking around the food court, one can’t help but notice Yami Yami for its large, appealing, and often busy storefront. It’s the only sushi restaurant in the food court and it’s one of the only, perhaps *the* only, self-​serve restaurant. It’s unique.
In addition to sushi, the restaurant serves Asian salads such as Thai cucumber salad, soba (Japanese buckwheat noodle) salad, seaweed salad, and Greek salad, and hot foods like chicken teriyaki and Americanized Chinese foods like spring rolls and sesame chicken. The quality is food court food quality. In other words, not very good.
We went for dinner where the following prices were in effect:
Hot food, salad: $ 7.99/pound
Hot food, salad, sushi: $ 10.99/pound
Sushi only: $ 1.00-$ 1.50 each
No matter which option you choose, I think you’re screwed. Since the food is self-​serve, it’s like a one-​visit buffet. You fill a disposable Styrofoam box with whatever sushi, hot foods, and salads you want.
The quality of the sushi is on par with Ru San’s, which is the standard for low quality sushi in the Atlanta area. It’s all about quantity over quality with Ru San’s and Yami Yami. At least with Ru San’s, you’re paying a cheap price for cheap sushi. I can live with that. At Yami Yami, you’re paying an expensive price for cheap sushi.
I noticed Yami Yami uses sushi plates with the logo for Badayori. Badayori is the name of the now-​defunct sushi buffet in Sandy Springs. Before it was known as Badayori, it was known as Minado. Today, it’s Nori Nori. I have no idea if Yami Yami is connected to Nori Nori in any way. If the two are connected, Yami Yami should hang its head in shame because Nori Nori is actually good.
The sushi selection was poor. There were only two types of nigiri offered: shrimp and tuna. There wasn’t even salmon or yellowtail, which are some of the cheapest and most basic nigiri every sushi restaurant serves. The same can be said for the rolls. I came upon one section of six plates of rolls where five of the six plates were completely empty. Ridiculous.
Of the rolls that were available, they were mostly of the Americanized cooked, fried, and sauce-​drenched variety. The nigiri was hurriedly and sloppily put together with way too much rice and the rolls were lackluster. Do not come here and expect authentic Japanese sushi.
Another issue was cross contamination. I’m allergic to shrimp. I tried the tuna nigiri and several of the rolls. I’m not sure exactly which pieces were cross-​contaminated, but I had an allergic reaction to the non-​shrimp sushi and rolls. Not good, especially for those who are more allergic than others.
At the end of the ordering line, there are self-​serve containers of soy sauce and water.
Ended up getting a box of 2 tuna nigiri and 10 individual roll pieces, a veggie spring roll, and some broccoli and seaweed salad for nearly $ 18. In order to save money, I recommend you do not place soy sauce, ginger, and wasabi into your food box. Come back and get them after you’ve paid. There are individual small cup containers you can put the soy sauce, ginger, and wasabi in.

This place is great. Everything is good. The sushi, very fresh. The salads are unique. The hot food is very tasty. They have thai tea and green tea too. The reasonable pricing lets me eat there 3 – 4 times a week.

The $ 5.99 lunch special is the way to go…

There is a lunch God! And it must reside inside of Yami Yami!
When I first started working the Peachtree Center area, I tried Yami Yami for some sushi and was not impressed. Co-​workers were not impressed either, and many have since sworn off Yami Yami all together.
However, in my quest to find anything quick, cheap, and tasty to purchase for lunch in the Peachtree Center area, I came to a halt after passing by Yami Yami’s non-​sushi options. Their food actually looked… good. It looked… fresh!
$ 5.99 will get you two items and rice. I chose the sesame chicken with a spring roll and steamed rice. I also couldn’t pass up the green iced tea I saw that the register clerk had! I found all the food to be really good. The chicken actually kept it’s crunchiness with the sauce that was on it. I’m not sure it was exactly sesame chicken though– but it was the standard chicken-​in-​sauce dish you’d expect from any asian food court place.
The iced green tea was a standout performer for me, especially because she will sweeten it for you to your preference. I actually didn’t get a chance to bite into my spring roll because I was so full from everything else!
They also have a good sushi deal. It’s almost like a sushi buffet, where you can pick and choose what kinds of pieces you want. You can mix and match too, I believe up to 8 pieces for the deal. I can’t remember what the deal exactly is, but friends say that the sushi quality has vastly improved since last year.
Also, all the workers here are FRIENDLY and speak English really well… which says a lot, considering people who work in Peachtree Center who speak English as their first language can barely get it right, let alone be polite. I will definitely be back here for lunch!
