And, as always, Whit’s frozen custard is 90% fat free.
History
Established in 2003.
Frozen custard recipes date back to the early 1900s but it wasn’t until the 1920s that commercial frozen custard machines were invented. It is said that the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago popularized frozen custard and by 1940 frozen custard stands were located all over the East and Midwest of the United States. Frozen custard is still created with the same pure ingredients as a century ago; cream, eggs, and sugar. But there are three reasons why frozen custard is thicker, smoother, and creamier than ice cream:
1) Frozen custard uses a higher butterfat content,
2) Making frozen custard is a slower labor-intensive process that is careful to minimize the amount of air blended into the mix, referred to as «overrun,» and finally,
3) The typical serving temperature of frozen custard is 26 degrees, that’s 10 degrees warmer than ice cream.

Whit’s Frozen Custard was started by Chuck and Lisa Whitman out of Granville, OH in 2003. Chuck and Lisa Whitman have an extensive back ground in the ice cream business from dairy manufacturing, supply distribution, to owning and operating ice cream establishments. Over time recipes and ideas were formed to create what we now know and love: Whit’s Frozen Custard. Since 2003 about 20 locations have opened in Ohio when the Whitman’s decided to franchise the business. Whit’s Frozen Custard of Atlantic Beach was the first location to open outside of the state of Ohio.
The owners of Whit’s — Atlantic Beach are from Ohio and wanted to bring back a product they know and love to the wonderful community of Atlantic Beach. The store opened in May 2014 and has quickly become a local favorite!
