History
Established in 1980.
On a bright spring day in 1990, Dean and Doreen Wood opened a new print shop in the heart of California’s Gold Country. That day, only one customer –Dean’s mother – came by, but after years of effort and dedication, Advantage was known as the best business printer in Auburn.
Throughout the years, Advantage has remained on the cutting edge of print technology. The first printer in town to offer in-house digital printing, we continue to use the latest machines to maintain our digital leadership. Advantage was also the first Auburn printer with a color wide-format printer, for extra-large projects.
Originally part of a franchise, Dean and Doreen realized that Advantage could serve customers just as well, if not better, as an independent business. Because of this decision, since spring of 2010, Advantage has been accountable to its customers, rather than to a distant corporate headquarters. We owe much to our loyal customers and look forward to serving them for many years to come.
Meet the Business Owner
Dean W.
Business Owner
Dean Wood entered the world of print and marketing after an extensive business education and first-hand experience in Silicon Valley. Born in Pampa, Texas, Dean called several states home before finally settling down in Auburn, California, where he attended Placer High School.
Dean went on to Sierra College, then to St. John’s University. He earned an M.A. from Rice University, and went on to earn an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University. Ready to face the business world at last, and armed with his studies in marketing and economics, Dean erupted onto the scene, working with Hewlett Packard in a variety of positions.
Dean met his wife Doreen, another HP employee, and they were married in 1989. Knowing early on that they wanted to have their own business, they opened a print shop the next year in Dean’s acquired hometown, the charming Gold Rush community of Auburn.
Since then, Dean and Doreen have proudly served customers, given to their community, and raised their six children.
