History

Established in 1981.

Open by appointment on weekends, best to call before coming out and finding me not there or out painting.

Hours posted are times I am usually available.

My origins as a painter started with my father being a black and white photography enthusiast. When I was 28, I went back to college to study art at Gonzaga University and completed a BA. I then studied one summer with Sergei Bongart (1918 – 1985) who inspired me to seriously paint outside.

Moved to Sacramento in 1983 and to Auburn in the foothills in 1999. Been painting and selling since 1976 and working part time to pay for my habit when needed. Opened a studio in Sacramento in 1990. Been represented by galleries most of my career, and I enjoy teaching pastel landscape for the last 5 years at my home studio.

My original inspiration has always been nature, and its calming effect. 24 years after I started painting I was diagnosed being bi-polar so on some level I was self-medicating with my art most of my life.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

Reif Erickson is a regional artist with works in public, corporate, and private collections throughout the Pacific Coast. Reif (pronounced ray-f) has been pursuing his art career for the last 38 years and contributes much of his success to his continuing practice of painting with pastels «on location» in what he calls Fresh Air® painting. Through careful observation and technical expertise, Reif achieves masterful landscapes of his travels in California and abroad.

I touch the Earth with my heart and paint the Spirit of the Land. My paintings are more than pigment and paper. They are light, and heart, and I paint the heart of the land. Join me in my earthscapes and go beyond what is seen. Distill the essence of sound, sand, wind, and sun. Make the journey and touch the Earth again with my art.

Find my work at galleries In Truckee, at Art Obsessions Gallery, in Yachats, Oregon, try Earthworks Gallery, and in Auburn, CA, go to Old Town Gallery open 7 days a week.
