The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center

The food was incredible. I want to say I ordered a pizza to my room and it was one of the best I have had.

I love this hotel. The staff is congenial and helpful, and the rooms are high-​end. Down comforters, nice sheets, great pillows (and I’m picky). My bathroom was modern with a huge walk-​in shower. The breakfast buffet is delicious – and they have a terrific omelet maker. When I got home, I discovered that I had left some clothes hanging in the closet – NO PROBLEM! They had been bagged up and were ready to send to me the very day I called about them. I highly recommend the service and amenities of this hotel.

The Hotel at Auburn University is always my first choice when I book a room in Auburn, Alabama. It is conveniently located right downtown; across the street from Samford Hall and walking distance to Auburn’s bars and restaurants, or the football stadium if it’s game day!
Many of the hotel employees are students in the Hotel Management and Hospitality program at Auburn. They are all very friendly and eager to please!
They have free parking.
The rooms are clean and make you feel right at home! It’s definitely not the most cost-​effective place to stay, especially if it’s a busy weekend, but I would say that it’s the best hotel to stay in if you want the complete Auburn experience!

I like this hotel. A special holiday rate, plus high ratings, convinced us to stay here rather than one of the chain hotels on the interstate. Rooms are nicely appointed with quality furnishings that are a step above and we loved our corner end room with windows facing the campus. There’s plenty of room to move about and plenty of storage with a dresser, two nightstands and a closet. Our king bed was comfortable and provided a restful night’s sleep. The in room mini fridge and microwave are a nice touch. The one exception is the bathroom which is tiny and among the smallest I’ve encountered in a hotel recently.
During the online reservation process you’re asked questions about room preferences, things like shower or tub, lower floor or higher floor (there are only six floors). I found that to be a nice touch and not that common in the business. We asked for a king room with a tub. At check in there was an attempt to sell us an upgrade from a superior king room to a deluxe king room for $ 30 more per night. But that would have negated the price savings of the special holiday rate and we declined.
Upon settling into our room, we discovered a shower but no tub. Our inquiry at the front desk was met with concern and a scramble to check the reservation system. It turns out that superior king rooms with tubs are blocked by a lobby renovation that’s going on. Since it’s admittedly one of the slowest times of the year and king rooms were available for an upgrade, I thought it was a huge missed customer service opportunity to not offer us a king room with a tub, what we had reserved, whether superior or deluxe. These are the kind of service details that differentiate the best from the rest. We made do with our shower.
The hotel is part of the hospitality program at Auburn University with students providing much of the labor, so the hotel is like a big learning laboratory. I think that’s motivation for better service and despite the missed opportunity, service felt personal and employees exuded a sense of pride in the property. The staff and service are one of the highlights of the hotel.
There are still opportunities for improvement, however.
I found a special «Santa Claus» rate, but it took some digging and wasn’t obvious. The lowest rate should pop up when customers search the web site and it shouldn’t require clicking through other links.
The shower in the bathroom is huge, large enough to easily hold four people. It cries out for a stone bench at one end. And there needs to be a hook or two in the shower for hanging towels or washcloths.
There was an impressive gingerbread village on display in the conference center part of the hotel. There’s also a large plaque acknowledging the benefactors of the center, Charles and Thelma Dixon. When I inquired at the desk as to who the Dixons were, I was met with a blank stare. I had to explain the plaque, the name, everything, but the clerk was clueless. Perhaps a little more information needs to be included during orientation.
Finally, I was surprised that there’s not an environmental sustainability policy in place. You know, where sheets aren’t changed daily unless requested and towels are reused from one day to the next if the guest chooses. Every hotel I’ve stayed in has policies to reduce water and energy consumption this way and at the very least has a recycling program. It’s a glaring omission, especially for a training hotel.
Despite all that, it didn’t take away from a quality stay at a quality hotel. If you have a choice, choose the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.

Really couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Front Desk was great, room service/​house keeping was spot on, they all did an exceptional job. Spoke with a manager, Sean B, as well and he couldn’t have been more helpful with insight on the surrounding area. Great spot, perfect location.

Very nice place to stay. The rooms are clean, updated and quite comfortable. The Hotel itself is lovely, they do need to work on the air conditioning… it seemed taxed and wasn’t working optimally. Other than that, stay here, you will be more than pleased.

This hotel is amazing. Very luxurious and comfortable. Hotel staff were very kind and accommodating. The restaurant in the hotel is top notch. Staying here made our trip to Auburn one to remember!

Beautiful hotel! Exceptional staff — from the friendly and helpful front desk staff — to –housekeeping…WOW! Well built hotel — I haven’t heard a peep from anyone else staying on our floor, and I can’t hear any outdoor noise.
I have my two tots with me, and everyone has been more than accommodating. FYI: I love the large shower, but there’s no tub (for the tots), and it’s a very tiny bathroom.
I’ll review the hotel restaurant later this week…

Beautiful hotel with awesome breakfast buffet options (about $ 14 extra)! Also, walking distance from the main street area. The lobby is super cozy and cute, although a bit slow for check in.

This is a great college hotel and I love the idea that students work in this place! The rooms are beautifully decorated and the hotel is well maintained! The only thing is the wall is thin, so you can hear everything and the elevators are a bit slow but overall it was a great experience. The buffet was average and being in the hospitality industry, I found a few things I would love to suggest; the milk for the cereal should be iced instead of standing at room temperature and so does the yogurt. The pancakes and waffles should have been in a chaffeur to keep them warm. But overall it was decent. :)
I would definitely go back and stay should I ever go back!

I was here for a convention and am used to chains. An independent hotel scared me a little, but I was more than pleased.
The service is extremely warm and friendly from check-​in to check-​out. The rooms was perfect: a king deluxe with a fridge, a flat-​panel TV and an oh-​so-​comfortable bed. Oh – and free wifi!
There’s no tub; instead you’ll find a roomy shower with the kind of water pressure and shower flow that dreams are made of. (Seriously: I want one of these at home!)
Even the restaurant was outstanding (and I usually shy away from hotel restaurants). The breakfast was outstanding, with a two buffet options, with everything from the usual suspects to a custom omelette station and turkey sausage. Lunch and dinner were even better, with the buffet as well. I never left hungry or disappointed. Service was probably the best part — I was always met with a smile and my glass never got below the half-​mark.
I don’t know if I’ll be back in Auburn anytime soon, but if I do, I’ll make it a point to stay here.
(And yes, the location is directly across the from campus. Can’t beat that!)

The hotel is lovely, rooms are very nice, the staff is very accommodating and location is amazing.(right down from toomers corner) BUT I must say if you have kids sharing a room I can’t stress enough to reserve one of their suites to have additional Space. Although pricey it will certainly be a must have sacrifice in the future.

It is a beautiful facility, well maintained, courteous employees, clean rooms, lots of choices on the television, good restaurant, what’s not to like!?!
The location is right across from the University so the view of campus is excellent. A calming location, the only place to stay in Auburn.

Great Hotel. The rooms are very nice with super comfortable beds. Walk in slated showers with good views of the campus. (Wait… the showers don’t have the view, the room does). The location is superb for nightlife, at about a 2 block walk to the tree and all the bars and restaurants. The Hotel’s food is really really good. I had the pistachio encrusted salmon and ate it while listening to live jazz in the back room. The waitresses are almost overly nice and kept the truffle oil popcorn coming all night long after dinner and ensured my glass was always more than half full. Breakfast is a delight and if you’re in a rush, take the extra 10 minutes and enjoy a full breakfast bar and or menu. It’s great and the service is really good. If there’s one thing I love about this place is the service. I feel like I’m in a 5 star. And I used to work in one, so I would know.
If you’re on orbitz make sure you confirm which credit card gets charged at the front desk. I’ve stayed here twice and each time they switch cards on me. Slight headache.

This is the only place to stay in Auburn! The nicest, most friendly people and best location to saty when in auburn. Hans the the general manager and his staff are the best,

The Hotel:
Luxurious. Swanky. Dark Wood. Beautiful Beds. Quality tea and coffee in room. Great breakfast/​bar/​social area. You will feel important, successful, and fabulous sleeping here for a night or two.
The staff is friendly, helpful, and albeit, hard to understand at times if you aren’t from Alabama.
The restaurant:
I had breakfast here and thought well of it. I like to eat alone and treat myself, and the restaurant had plenty of reading material, things to look at, coffee refills, and important conversations to eavesdrop on. Had I not been on an interview, I would’ve enjoyed a mimosa as well!

The food is VERY good. Had the wild salmon over an arugula fig salad with asiago cheese. Imagine — gluten-​free and low carb and delicious. Glass of house Cabernet for $ 5. Half order of the Balsamic-​Fig Gelato — heaven in my mouth for less than $ 3. Total bill was $ 21. Service was attentive and knowledgable. This was a happy surprise for me — I am not an alum.
Pricing: 2−½ dollar signs — moderate to pricey.

I am an alum and also qualify for the military rate, so we got a great room rate when we stayed here. The last time I was in Auburn was 10 years ago… so it was great to be back and see what had changed.
The hotel has done some impressive remodeling and our room was really, really nice. HUGE shower with a waterfall showerhead– the only problem was that the door to the bathroom misses the toilet by like an inch, so there’s not much room in there if you’re not in the shower. We thought the room décor was very nice and tastefully done.
We paid for the buffet breakfast ahead of time and it was very nice. Everything was fresh (fruit, pastries, juices) and the hot items were super tasty.
We hung out in the bar the first night, which has really nice intimate seating in comfy barstools. We discovered Piccolo the second night, which is attached and has a fireplace, great lounge furniture and fabulous jazz music on Sat night. They also had a TV, so hubby could watch the rest of the Florida/​LSU game with closed-​captioning while I enjoyed the jazz. The ambiance in Piccolo was really nice and moody-​feeling. Perfect.
We ate at Ariccia and the food was VERY good. Prices weren’t bad, the wine was tasty, and we were very happy. The staff are obviously students and even though they may not be very suave, they try really darn hard. We asked about getting some garlic bread to go with our pasta dishes and our guy was off in a flash to get some. He came back with one piece for hubby (since he was the one who spoke up) and immediately realized that I might like a piece too. So off he ran again. It was actually really kind of cute. When hubby asked for a water refill (which he shouldn’t have had to do), they only refilled his and forgot mine. Oh well. The cooked-​to-​perfection asparagus we got as a side made up for any slight service hiccups :)
Overall, we were extremely happy with our stay and will definitely stay here again. Even though the staff is learning the ropes of the restaurant and hotel management side, they were so motivated and eager to please that we really couldn’t find fault with anything.
Oh, and they had L’Occitane bathroom supplies! Awesome :)
