Hands down my favorite local ice cream shop. Check their website for the flavor of the day. My usual order: flavor of the day in a waffle cone. Closed on Sundays! Yes, I went on a Sunday and left heartbroken.

My family is fortunate enough to live between Merrymead and Freddy Hill. Excellent ice cream at both spots. Zwahlen’s is a very attractive, very busy and very mediocre ice cream shop. There are plenty of other sweets to buy that look quite good, but the ice cream is a bit airy, overly sweet and limited to THREE choices. Yes, 3. Toppings a plenty, but the important part(the actual ice cream) is nothing special at all. Seriously, they have more doors than flavors of ice cream. The huge lines are just inexplicable. All I can attribute them to is people that have never been to a dairy farm. Go to Merrymead or Freddy Hill.

We found this cute little place while in the area on vacation in May 2016. I am serious this place was just plain precious. Lots of seating. A good place to go with friends for some sweets(a virtual diabetic coma just waiting to happen, but I took extra insulin and so I was up to the challenge). The service was so above and beyond sweet, just like what they were serving up. They were busy and there was a long line, but when we got to the register to order, we had questions and the young lady at the register was so friendly and willing and wanting to help us make a decision. I will certainly return.

This place is probably missing from 80% of the towns in this country. It’s what an ice cream shop should be and can be when you really care about ice cream and not just making money. They really know how to treat their customers and their product is above any standard that I’ve ever experienced. So if you go and get some of their amazing ice cream, tell ‘em Big Texas sent you.

I can have plain Jane vanilla from here every time and be happy: it’s just so. darn. creamy. And their house-made hot fudge?! And their caramel apples? OK, I have to stop. Although they only have one«special» flavor daily, it works: there’s a lot of combos and other dessert fare. Also, the prices are good: $ 1.75 for a kid’s size?! I’m sold(again and again). Also adore the Swiss chalet feel and the ever-present smell of chocolate. Tabbing over now to check tomorrow’s flavor…

Hands down, the best ice cream in the area! We have been going for almost 7 years now, and we feel guilty going anywhere else haha Even though they only have 3 flavors a day(chocolate, vanilla, and whatever the flavor of the day is) there are tons of different options(blizzards, waffle & ice cream, cookie/ice cream sandwich, etc.) Zwhalens will always be my «go to» place for ice cream!

Ice cream is very good. The candy apples are very good. Everything is very good. I just wish they had my flavor more often.

What a cute little place! Has a ski lodge feeling. Lots of seating. A good place to go with friends for some sweets. The service was so nice too. They were busy and there was a long line, but when we got to the register to order, we had questions and the lady at the register was so friendly and willing and wanting to help us make a decision. Did not make us feel rushed at all. I ordered an avalanche with cashews, peanuts, heath. It was a nice combo of sweet and salty

We went for ice cream and found really good ice cream! Custard stlye dense and creamy. Flavor of the day was Banana chocolate chip, and it was amazing. Anne and Brian both enjoyed a freshly made waffle wirh vanilla ice cream and hot fudge… WOW. Everything is made fight here with the highest quality ingredients. Nothing artificial is used. Only 3 flavors are made throughout the day, you won’t be disappointed. We met a very nice lady who was happy to talk with us about the shop and the chocolates and caramel they make for a wide variety of caramel apples. We sampled the caramel which is quite dark in color… so velvety smooth and yummy. We wiill be sure to return to try more handmade treats. If you are anywhere near Audubon, you MUST visit this special place.

If you are looking for fresh tasting ice cream and not a lot of flavor choices, then you’ll enjoy coming here. In addition to ice cream, they do also sell other goodies like chocolates, gourmet apples, gift baskets, etc. Most people come here for their delicious ice cream and you will only find 3 flavors – vanilla, chocolate, and the flavor of the day. You can go online to check out what the flavor of the day is. They also have various mix-ins that you can add to your ice cream and they can service it up in a cone or cup. Downside is that they can get busy and the line can move pretty slow. Plenty of seating options both indoor and outdoors. You can also go in and buy a pint or quart of their ice cream.

Wow, seriously? A guy asks from sugar free ice cream/low sugar options and the response is «You came to the wrong place!», laughing at the guy, and then asking him to leave? Ridiculous. This place has friggin’ *vegan* ice cream and the front of house thinks sugar free ice cream is an oddity. Whoever manages this place needs to train their people at the register not to be absolutely atrocious to customers. Doesn’t matter how good your ice cream is if the people who work for you can’t even talk to a senior with diabetes without laughing him out of the establishment. You just lost a monthly customer and as many people as I can convince on Facebook. Learn some manners.

The ice cream here is so good that they only need to serve 3 flavors at any given time: chocolate, vanilla, and a flavor of the day. Their specialties are where they really shine though: the yodeler(an ice cream sandwich with fresh baked cookies), concretes, caramel apples, and waffles are all delicious. I always have to stop by whenever I’m home!

Overall the best ice cream place I’ve ever been to. The ice cream had a consistency somewhere between soft serve and hard. They always serve chocolate and strawberry — and one special flavor a day. I would recommend the marshmallow flavor and the peanutbutter flavor. People are nice here and the chocolate covered graham crackers are great! The prices are pricey compared to a super market, but they are spot on for the quality of food you get. The ice cream prices are actually cheap.

AMAZING!!! Everything is absolutely delicious! From their icecream, crepes, Swiss waffle, sundaes, chocolates, Carmel apples! It’s all fantastic! Such a cute place and friendly staff. My boyfriend would prefer more icecream flavors but I don’t mind vanilla or chocolate! Love it here :)

I had the crêpe with strawberry cheesecake ice cream and strawberries on top. It was great! They have a lot of options so I will have to come back to try out their other desserts. They have sitting out in the back which is nice, especially at night when the day cools down. Their schedule is also very convenient, they close at 11PM! Which is the main reason I decided to stop by and glad I did. You will need cash if your order is less than $ 10 and the time to complete your order takes a few minutes. Other than that, I highly recommend this place.

I’ve taken my out of town friends here and they all love it. Thus far my favorite specialty desserts have been a flavor of the day brownie ice cream with hot fudge on a belgium waffle and the apple krisp a la mode with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge… the latter being more of a favorite. Note, they are closed on Sunday which can be a bummer when you’re craving some good ice cream.

Good ice cream, a variety of flavors, and they don’t get too crazy with what they offer — basically they have simple ice cream and ice cream related food with very high quality. During the summer time, families are packed in as far as the eye can see and it is like an assembly line, but there are a lot of ice cream places in the area, but this one is a great place to go — especially if it is on an off-night.

Zwalen’s offers soft serve ice cream, ice cream creations like sundaes, etc, candies, chocolates, candied apples, gift baskets and more. The soft serve is very rich. They have vanilla and chocolate flavors, and a wildcard flavor every day. Check their schedule for the daily special. Atmosphere inside is like a Swiss chalet. It is very heavily enamored with wood, and the owners have their family tree painted on the large wall in the dining area. This place has zero acoustics, so when it gets busy, don’t you know [hear] it! The portions here are generous so order accordingly. They also are a chocolatier and sell their family-recipe Swiss chocolates and chocolate covered sweets. They also specialize in very fancified covered apples. During the holidays they put together a variety of gift baskets for different price levels. Good and easy gift idea from a local, Philly ‘burb business for any out of town guests and locals who may be unaware.

Very nice chocolate \Ice Cream shop in the quickly growing Audobon shopping area between Trooper and Egypt Roads. Gorgeous building inside and out, tons of seating, a nice warm fireplace, friendly staff and tons of chocolate… But after going a few times after they first opened… I never thought they would survive! Quality and tasty items for sure, but they come at a price… The apples, although quite large and delicious, are expensive starting at $ 5.50 for a basic apple and going up to $ 14 for a decorated Eagles\Phillies apple. The chocolate, also excellent, is also expensive. Seems like a special occasion place that would have big sales around certain holidays then be dead the rest of the year… I’d stop in during lunch on a weekday and be the only person sitting in this place with seating for 60+ people… I really didn’t see it surviving but… it seems to be thriving! I stop in once or twice a month and try a sample of their flavor of the day(Lemon Raspberry most recently, it was quite tasty!), then get the same thing I always get… kids sundae, chocolate iced cream, peanuts, dark hot fudge, whip cream and a cherry… it’s about 4.25 and just enough to do the trick after lunch… I only buy chocolate here for special occasions and that is pretty rare… It’s good, but pricey… I don’t go out of the way for it… The iced cream IS worth going out of the way for… They won’t wow you with 64 flavors, but it is different in a good way… more custard like maybe? Less sweet for sure, denser with a more intense flavor… Service is usually great… but I’m usually there during the week at off hours… around the holidays, and on nice weekend nights, it can get busy and the lines can get long… so long that I’ve actually left once due to the sheer volume of people ahead of me… But, for the most part, it’s not to bad and there is plenty to look at while you wait… They make their own hot fudge… dark and milk… and you can get it to go… try some! You can usually get pints\quarts of the previous couple«flavors of the day» in addition to the«flavor of the day»…see the bottom left corner of the menu to see what they have in the freezer… They updated their website and now take online orders and will ship it to you Try the Hot Chocolate… they heat milk and mix it with chocolate chips to make a VERY good cup of cocoa! Closed Sundays… Open from 11 to 10 M-Th Friday — Saturday till 11:00…Pretty late for a chocolate shop! I *wish* they would give out their WiFi password!

It’s a crazy thing when you have a business with a name nobody can pronounce! It’s hilarious to listen to folks give it a shot. Lots of folks don’t even try and just say–«Let’s go to that great ice cream place behind MickyDs!» I don’t care if the name is Satan’s Playground. I just want great ice cream and you can find that here. You can drive through the Trooper/Egypt intersection a hundred times and not spot this place. Like I said, look behind the McDonald’s. There are two important points you need to know– 1. In addition to chocolate and vanilla they only have one other flavor per day. Actually they usually change flavors every two days. One example is Monkey Business. Its banana ice cream with walnuts and chocolate chunks and it is delicious. A regular cone is $ 2.50. You can check for the flavor of the day on Facebook. 2. Their ice cream is less sweet(less sugar) than most. I know that sounds strange but it really is a pleasant change. When you see the mob of people on a nice summer night you’ll know that I’m not the only one that enjoys it. You can purchase lots of other sweets here like candy and cupcakes but the big draw is the ice cream. Sometimes I stop in and just get a shake. A small with tax is $ 3.98. It’s thick and creamy and really hits the spot. Although it can get busy I’ve found the customer service to be just fine. Lots of folks that are doing stuff around the KOP area make the quick detour and stop here for a tasty treat. It’s worth it.
