Calvert’s Restaurant

The food was 5 stars but the atmosphere and drink selection brought my rating down a little bit. Cannot deny that it was some of the best food I’ve had in Augusta. Both my boyfriend and I ordered specials that included both steak and some sort of delicious seafood. Both of ours was amazing. But, when we walked in, we weren’t expecting much. It was pretty empty for a Friday night and we were the only ones under the age of 60, if not 70. The atmosphere was stuffy. It was pretty odd because the décor was very traditional and looked like it was trying to be upscale but the ceiling was what you’d see in a school classroom (big flat lights that normally have flies trapped in them). Would go back for the food, but will likely choose other places based on better ambience. It would be great if they could add a signature cocktail menu and offer some craft beer options.

Calvert’s is a higher end, star restaurant here in Augusta. I came here for dinner (about 15 – 20 people total), held in a private room, and highly enjoyed both the food and the service. If you have a large party that needs accommodations, this restaurant will be a great place to host!
We started with a buffet of appetizers, my favorites of which were the salmon with capers, and the stuffed mushrooms.
For the entrée, I had their signature beef filet — which was hands down, delicious. For the dessert, I had the flourless chocolate cake. While the flour was noticeably missing for me and had a tad too much whipped cream, I can see this dessert item being a hit with those with dietary restrictions!

The food was amazing AND the sweet tea was the BEST I’ve ever had. The service was good.

The overall experience here was rather great! There was good service, excellent food (I recommend the sea bass), and the ambiance was excellent! However, it is rather pricy and the final bill can come anywhere between 100‑1000 dollars. If you do go, make sure to ask your waiter/​waitress about the stories of famous golfers who have come through and still do! Like Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, and many more. Service and dessert were great but the food was disappointing especially since Calverts is considered «fine dining». Could’ve made a better meal at home myself. Also décor seems dusty and out dated.

My father and I came here for his birthday dinner. We caught the early bird special, which allowed for both of us to get a salad, entrée, and combined dessert for about $ 30 – pretty good! The food was good. I had a beef dish and I think dad had salmon. The waitress was nice, but a little slow to get around to us. The restaurant is very much geared toward an older crowd. I’m 25 and was definitely the youngest person there. Dad, in his 50’s, may have been the 2^nd youngest! The place kind of looks like it hasn’t been updated in 30+ years. Overall, it was good, but will save it only for special occasions with «grown ups» :)

This was my second time and this place amazed me to the point that I must give them this review. The food was amazing and no question there. However, I’m always picky about Services wherever I go. This place is excellent in that categories. These ladies are super sweet and excel at what they’re doing. First of all, they served me properly from appetizer to dessert. They paid attention to details. I asked for pinot and it was there in less than 2 minutes. I asked for steak sauce, they came out with the sauce. My steak was more rare than I wanted and they just gave me a new steak that was perfectly cooked. My colleagues and I were all happy by the end of the day, we did not want to leave the place, we stayed until they close. I will always come back here. Thank you for making our dinners a little sweeter, a little more pleasant.

Overpriced and overrated! Service was slow and borderline rude. The menu selection was tiny and the price for the quality of the atmosphere, quality and quantity was simply ridiculous. We are perfectly fine paying top dollar for a top notch dining experience — this failed in that area.
Finally, we made reservations for two but were sat in a room with three very large tables with large, loud groups.
We will not go back!

Calvert’s is an Augusta staple, but they seem to be coasting on their reputation. We held a family celebration with a large crowd recently, and while the service was very good — especially for such a big group — the food was unexceptional. Perfectly-​cooked steaks were too dry; a basic sauce would have helped. Twice-​baked potato was uninspired, asparagus and carrots seemed like an afterthought. The fish was mediocre; shrimp was overcooked.
The beer menu is lame; would it hurt to add a few craft beers to the weak bottle-​only selection? And what’s up with no call-​brand liquor? That’s a little off-​putting. The wine selection, at least, is decent.
In short, the experience here used to be elegant and amazing. Now it’s just pedestrian.
It appears that a once-​great restaurant is squatting on its laurels and needs a renewed effort to return to greatness in a market that is now far more competitive at their price point.

I moved to Augusta 3 and a half yrs ago, had always heard of Calverts and saw the outside but had never gone in but in a search for something special for my wife’s Birthday I decided to try it for a «sunset Dinner for two» special they ran. I had wanted to surprise my wife with flowers at the table and a fabulous meal. I went by in person nobody would answer the door, at 4 pm
So I called and a very nice woman got me excited about the place but she said she would not be working when we got there but claimed I would be well cared for and I set the Dinner reservation for 530 pm as they were booked most of the evening. My wife primped longer than I thought, Traffic was un-​cooperative and we were a half hour late… We went inside and the place was dark and few people inside and no hostess? We waited and finally I walked the floor looking for someone several women sat at the bar, 3 patrons in the front table… Along with an oriental woman in a red dress who saw me but said nothing. Finally, a waitress found and I was uncomfortable explaining we had never been here before I spoke with a woman on the phone who was very nice and I had a reservation for 530 but we were delayed and now we can’t seem to find a Hostess to report to to be seated.
She replied that «That’s funny she just seated a table» so she walked me back to the door to the hostess station, No Hostess? she then had another couple now at the door and asked if they too had a reservation and they said yes and she immediately seated THEM. We stood while she seated the people after us then the red dress oriental woman said, are you being helped? I said I was not sure, the woman I had seated other people and had not come back yet. She said oh, I’m sorry, I am the hostess, but I saw you talking with a server so I thought you were taken care of… what reservation do you have… Mr Moody… I said Yes, I see you here but it was over 30 min ago… we will have to see what we have… I explained that it was my «wife’s Birthday,» a very special night for me I had flowers in the car I wanted our server to present to her and could she help me make a romantic and memorable evening for us? She said just a moment I have other people to seat as more people arrived… She seated them FIRST? All of them? And still left me stand there… Now the server I spoke to and the Red dress woman were conversing and then the Hostess goes behind the Bar and polishes a wine glass? Still left at the door… my wife begins to unravel…“Listen honey” it’s obvious they do not want us here and the place is too snooty toward us, they don’t seem to want to accommodate us, let’s just go to BONEFISH Café… This does not seem to be going well… so we left! Nobody seemed to care that we did and that was as close as we ever got to Calvert’s!!! Wow!
it was a 35 min wait at the door only to be snubbed away??? really? So if you dine there you have to have connections of you may not even get a table like we did kind of ruined the night for me anyway… But Bonefish was wonderful our waiter was great and the food was awesome.

Mediocre food and over priced. The atmosphere was nice, upscale. Ordered a Delmonico steak that was a bit over cooked served with some tired asparagus and carrots.

While the restaurant and service were top notch, the steaks were surprisingly bland! A little more salt and pepper would have done the trick. I made steaks the following night at home which turned out MUCH better that what I had at Calvert’s. Thankfully everything else was excellent, but only 3 stars because the main entrée was very bland and the steak quality was not that good for what you pay. I don’t mind the price, but it must be worth it. Maybe they just had an off night.

Calverts is one of the premier restaurants in Augusta! The best chefs and managers in Augusta all trained under Craig Calvert! Try the soups which are all fantastic and the steaks are perfection on a plate. T-​bones does not come close. Sorry Brandell Chamblee, but you are being led astray. You really can’t go wrong here and the service is as good as you will find.

The Sea bass Americane was delicious. Crab on top with a piccata sauce, delicious.

Yummy gourmet food, and good service to pair. Good location for some after dinner fun.

What made our first time dining at Calvert’s so positive? My college son (Augusta State) and I were treated like family by both the waitress Denise and Mr. Calvert himself. The food was excellent. Their signature dish, Lobster Savannah (highly recommended by a local friend but not on the menu) was simply the best. Our only regret is that we did not discover Calvert’s sooner.

It was an amazing ending to my first Masters experience and a great dinner to share with family! Pricey but totally worth it and Heidi gave seamless service! Osso Bucco

The boy and I came here to test one of the nicer restaurants of Augusta.
There are complimentary rolls with fruit spread and a croûton-​like cracker plate with cheese. We started off with two glasses of house wine ($ 7 each), the stuffed mushrooms ($ 10) and seafood bisque ($ 7). The seafood bisque is an absolute must try.
For entrees we ordered the sea bass ($ 35) which was good, and the duck ($ 26), cooked at medium, which was impressively flavorful.
Pros: This place was very cute, in an elderly grandmother kind of way. The service was stellar; all our servers were very sweet.

Cons: The chairs had wheels and the dining area where we were sitting reminded me of a nursing home. The food was good, but it wasn’t worth the price.
Overall, a positive experience, but I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because with a tab greater than $ 100 for two people, it’s should be the best darn sea bass I’ve ever tasted.

They had a great deal for 2 called «Sunset Special» that included salad, entrée, and dessert for under $ 30. Atmosphere was nice, but service was definitely not up to par (perhaps it was due to a large party present) but overall it was good and I’ll definitely give them another try.

I can’t believe that anyone has yet to comment on what is the best restaurant in Augusta. Well, the best one I’ve eaten at in my 3+ years here, anyway. I went with a group of 6 of us, so I got to taste a variety of their appetizers and main dishes, and each one was fantastic, esp. the seafood bisque and the seafood-​covered tenderloin.
They offer a more affordable «Sunset Dinner for Two» which is an early dinner for 2 at less than $ 30, so I’ll be sure to comment on that once I’ve tried it, as I assume it is off a more limited menu.
