History

Established in 1995.

Computer Exchange was founded in 1995 by Charles Kelly after being laid off by Bulldog Computer Products when they closed the doors after 12 years in business. Charles worked for Bulldog for five years and was one of the last four remaining employees. When he started, it was a company doing 15 million dollars a year and employing 60 workers. Having watched the demise of such a dynamic company from the inside he learned some key lessons about how to make a company survive during good times as well as bad.

Feeling that low overhead, combined with very good customer service would be the right combination, Charles opened the first Computer Exchange in a very small retail spot in Hop’s Plaza, on Washington Rd in Martinez, stocked with a nice selection of what were then, very high end used computers at discount prices. In those days a nice 486 computer would retail for almost $ 3000.

John L.

Business Owner

John was born and raised in Augusta. He attended Aquinas High School in the first half of High School, but graduated from Richmond Academy. Afterwards he went to school at Augusta College (now Georgia Regents University). He began work at the YMCA, and later founded San Miguels restaurant. He joined with Charles Kelly in 1997, and started the second Computer Exchange location on Peach Orchard Rd. In August 2013 the store moved across the street to it’s current location in Colony Plaza at 2115 Windsor Spring Rd.
