Went on June 15th and it was awful! Trout Almond in was dry and tasteless. I tried the old pear, mayo and cheese for old times sake. It tasted like metal.Awful.My girlfriend had fried chicken that was raw inside. She took it back to the line and exchanged it for tenders. AND it was more on the bill!! It should have been free. But that’s OK because I will never darken their doorway again!! NO to S&S!

Ambience. C Service. B Food. B Price. A It’s old and dingy décor. Rugs are dingy and wallpaper is already a bad yellow/gold. Caters to elderly and families that eat early and people that like cafeteria style eating. Very handicapped accessible. Service to go through the line feels hurried as there are so many options to choose. You start with salads and then go though myriad desserts hen entrees then vegetables then bread then drink. Whew. I’m exhausted trying to figure out. They ring a bell at the cashier if you look like you need help with carrying a tray to there table. My server was swift and helped seat and set up table. Would have liked a smile but he was amicable in all requests. Found out he’d been working there 10 years. There’s a special for $ 7.35. Select entrees with 2 vegetables and bread. My dad had liver onions and added brown gravy. It was nice and moist and had a good flavor. I’m not a fan of canned peas and mushy turnips though. However, he liked them. The custArd pie was nice and moist with a good egg flavor. I had the trout almondine. It had a nice almond crispy crust and the fish was moist. However, there were several long bones to deal with in bites. I liked the fried green tomatoes. Nice and crunchy with a nice bitter green tomato taste. Not my go to place to eat in Augusta, but older peeps in my group like it. Today was good. I would try again as long as food quality stays better than okay. Just saying.

I’ve visited this restaurant for as long as I can remember. Lots of old memories with my parents and later with my own kids when they were little. The building is old, but the food is delicious. Best fried chicken anywhere. Mashed potatoes are awesome. Sweet potato balls are amazing. Corn muffins and crackling cornbread tastes good like my granny’s.

The food wasn’t bad! The biscuit was actually pretty impressive and my baked chicken and green beans were good! My black eyed peas were over done and mushier than I would have liked. My complaint about the food was how salty it was! Service– on a whole the attitude of the employees left something to be desired. I came across only one person who I thought was friendly and helpful. My other issue with S&S? It was DIRTY. The walls, floors, furniture– yuck. This place needs a good hosing down! It was a bit nostalgic for me to go here, my family used to go in my home town after church on Sunday and meet my Grandparents. We also frequent a cafeteria in Murrells Inlet on Thanksgiving, and the overall experience is better.

I drive from Columbia to Augusta to come here and eat. We used to have one in Columbia but for some reason they shut it down. The food is totally worth the drive. I have eaten here since I was a little girl. The food and service is always excellent.

I am not from the area so this place is a novelty for me. We had fried chicken and mac n cheese. So delicious — well seasoned chicken and crispy fried. All was under $ 7 for lunch! They use fresh oil to fry chicken and you can tell. The mac could’ve have been a tad less oily though. .the shells were soaking in oil. Get a small serving :)

If you miss the cafeteria food from school, or you have fond memories of hospital food this is the place for you. Four of us went, Zero of us liked it. IT was bland, and surprisingly overpriced. There were no instructions from the servers as to what you could select. Perhaps they assumed since they have been a fixture in Augusta for years, you should know their business model. Or perhaps remember it from high school. I doubt if anyone who frequents this establishment will ever read this review, but I have posted it regardless of that likelihood.

S&S is absolutely excellent! I may or may not be addicted to their baked chicken and whipped potatoes(absolutely horrible for you… but SO good). Service is fast and friendly, even when the line is out the door. My only gripe is that it is a little pricey for what you are getting($ 10ish with drink for what is essentially very good cafeteria food), but the quality more than makes up for it!

I dined for lunch before the crowd came in. The out side looks like a plain cafeteria and the inside is no different. The look does go along with their cheap home cooked feel though. The line starts with salads and dessert, then moves to meats and starchy sides, next veggies, bread, and drinks. With so much variety there were several meal combinations. I had the baked chicken breast, yellow rice, and cabbage. The chicken was juicy and seasoned with seasoned salt and paprika. The rice was cooked in oil of some sort so it was a bit different but tasted ok. The cabbage was boiled and was lacking flavor, but the server supplied some hot sauce so all was well. In all the food was ok. The service was good. If you aren’t able to carry your filled tray a server will help you. They also bring you any condiments and drink refills you need. You pay on the way out. I was in and out in 30 minutes so its a great lunch spot if you are short on time. Be sure to smile at the line servers if you want more than the single serving. :)

OKAY… SOMAYBETHISISJUST A ONETIMETHING! BUTTHISWASMYEXPERIENCE! Its so fast pace in the line that the servers don’t hear or either done listen to what you say that you want and just give you whatever. I ordered the chicken breast tampico and the woman manager served it to me after she slopped extra nacho cheese on it. I didn’t ask for extra cheese and she didn’t ask if I wanted it. So my fried chicken breast tampico was soggy under an inch of nacho cheese sauce. The bathroom smelled like urine. The servers were efficient and polite. I’ll give it another go maybe later.

Been to this place for over 20 years, one thing still remains the same… the food will always keep you coming back. I can remember enjoying their scrumptous food after long days of school and their recipes seems to never changed, and I like that since alot of the times once I find something I like, the recipe seems to change for the worse. Everything from the salad to the bread is wonderful. And the wait staff never disappoint always willing to help with eagerness. Both of my grandmothers are really fond of this place. Recently my maternal grandmother died and she swore by this place, so now when I go here to eat I wont be pleasing myself but also ‘grandma’ in heaven!!!
