The Breathable Home offers expert, performance-based, full energy retrofits and energy audits. We work directly with homeowners, landlords and new construction contractors throughout central Maine, experienced in everything from basic attic treatments to deep energy renovations. For quality assurance we follow all BPI standards on each and every job. Energy savings through energy upgrades is our primary service. We’ll personally ensure the best results in terms of health and safety, comfort, building durability, and energy savings by overseeing each project from start to finish. Each job includes a Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified energy audit provided by Kennebec Home Performance. A scope of work is crafted, and tailored to your budget and concerns. We encourage and welcome your questions and participation throughout the entire process. Energy savings typically range from 10 to 60% with investment repayment term of 10 years or less.

We are driven by the requests from homeowners to address the current energy crisis and the strain on the working family. We start with a flexible-fee audit and look at changing the energy usage in your home as well as the overall efficiency of the structure. Our goal is to match your budget with the most effective, safe, sustainable and efficient building you can afford. Our reputation is based on honesty, integrity, education and communication. Business Owner
Owner Bo Jespersen has been building and remodeling homes since 1997, and has specialized in finish carpentry and restoration of old homes from foundation to finish. He founded The Breathable Home to respond to consumer demand for responsible energy cost savings options amid skyrocketing oil prices and the nation’s oldest housing stock. He’s credentialed by the Maine Association of Building and Energy Professionals (MABEP), Maine Indoor Air Quality, the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Central Maine Apartment Owners Association, and the nationally recognized Buildings Professionals Institute (BPI). Bo successfully completed the BPI Building Analyst 1 exam. In addition, several members of the team have completed the Maine Home Performance Weatherization Course, and the Weatherization Technicians course through MaineHousing. The Breathable Home is a certified installer of National Fiber cellulose and a certified installer of TPR2 Thermal Barrier Paint.
