Please don’t pay Jim Roosa, dba A to Z Handyman Services, in advance if you choose to do business with him. Here is what happened to me. His terms are to pay 50% down and I did so. The next day I had an innocent follow up question via email. We then spoke on the phone. He got angry and without my even suggesting it, he yelled 3x, «I’ll give you your money back, I don’t care.» I was dumbfounded but later in the day I emailed him requesting a full refund. He agreed but said he would charge me a $ 75 cancellation fee. I said there shouldn’t be a cancellation fee because: 1) A cancellation fee is not mentioned in the contract, the Craigslist ad, his website nor did he say anything regarding cancellation fees and he advertised free estimates. 2) My request was well within the 3 business days rescission requirement for full refund. And I informed him that I called my credit card company and filed a dispute and I repeated my request for a full refund. It took two days before he acknowledged that he is required to give me a full refund but said legally he had 10 days to do so. I asked why wait and he said, «Business.» After the full 10 business days he notified me that he authorized the refund to my credit card, however, it didn’t post to my account for six more days. I realize that could be some type of banking snafu, but on the few occasions when I’ve gotten a refund from anyone else, it’s always posted within 24 hours. I am not saying you shouldn’t hire Jim. He seemed to know what he was talking about in terms of the work required; He offered to do it at a fair price; He was prompt regarding returning phone calls, most emails and showing up on time for the estimate. But I urge you not to pay a penny in advance; If you do, get in writing whether or not there is any cancellation fee and know that he can get riled rather easily.

If one could post negative stars, that would be a better representation of this business and its owner. I’ve never once written an online review, but this experience needs to be shared to assure that others are not subjected to an avoidable disaster. A to Z Handyman is unable to perform the most basic of prep and prime prior to the painting of surfaces. The owner is abusive when he overruns his estimate. One of the laborers shared that the owner has a history of walking off job sites when he gets in over his head(which judging by his workmanship and other reviews is likely often). Do yourself a favor and find a more reputable service even if this business quotes a lower price. It will cost you more in the end both in terms of money and frustration if you elect to use this fly by night outfit.

They were supposed to show up on Saturday at 10am to give a quote on some work we need done. No show, no call. We left a few messages and never got a call back. Called again on Monday just to try and find out what happened. The man who answered was surprised no one showed up and said«let me look into it and call you right back». 24 hours later, still waiting for that call. Unreliable and extremely unprofessional.
