AMLI at Kirkland Crossing

If you are considering moving here… THINK AGAIN.
Honestly, before I moved in ⁶⁄₂₀₁₂ I read quite a few bad reviews and chose to ignore them. I REALLY wish I wouldn’t have!!! Living here was just headache after headache! The staff is rude and not helpful. Maintenance orders take FOREVER and are rarely actually fixed when they are «finished». After a few months of living here I realized that their maintenance team is a joke and just fixed everything on my own, with my own money.
They market AMLI as upscale apartment living, but EVERYTHING broke or fell apart in the year that I lived there. The «tile» is just the stick on laminent kind and would roll up all the time. The toilet, dishwasher, fridge, washing machine, and dryer all broke multiple times. The walls are paper-​thin and you can hear your neighbors all too well. Parking is ridiculous. I could honestly go on for hours but it’s just not worth it to me anymore! I highly recommend finding somewhere else to live.

I have lived at Amli at Kirkland Crossing for 7 months, and I am more pleased than any other property I’ve ever lived in. My fiancé and I are in our mid-​late twenties and couldn’t be happier with the features this apartment gives us. We moved here from a townhouse in Florida, and were skeptical about renting; however, we found a floor plan that is very similar to our townhouse style. For two young people and a dog, we have plenty of room. I also enjoy running, and our property is within a quarter mile to the Illinois Prairie Path!
Everything from the fireplace, kitchen coutertops, balcony, two sets of stairs, beautiful pool, private entrance, beautiful walking areas with ponds, and general layout of the apartment to the car care center near the front of the complex has really been utilized and appreciated.
However, I MUST say the best part of living in this apartment complex is the staff. From the first day that I came looking at the apartment until now, the staff members have felt like family. They greet me by first name when I walk into the office, are ever so accommodating, and are generally kind. Angela (sales associate in the front office) has been one of the most amazing aspects to this experience. She frequently asks me about my wedding plans whenever I see her. Glen (maintenance staff) is another employee of the property that I have been absolutely amazed with. I have filled out a couple service requests for minor issues, and it wasn’t more than two hours that Glen or another maintenace worker came to fix it. I actually walked passed Glen the other day and I realized I kept forgetting to fill out a service request for a toilet knob replacement… Glen was over at my apartment within 2 minutes with the new knob and had it installed within minutes. He is very personable and shows a true care for the property and its residents.
If I had to choose only one downfall of this property, it would be that there is not much within walking distance, aside from an AMAZING breakfast restaurant (Double Yolk), and a local bar, Walmart, Walgreens, and a few other stores.
If you are looking for a «homey» apartment with some pretty amazing ammenties, I would definitely suggest checking out Amli at Kirkland Crossing!

Do not rent an apartment at AMLI Kirkland Crossing.
When I went to look, the saleswoman I had was pushy and tried to upsell me from the minute I stepped in the door. I looked at a few apartments and even applied for one online. It was overpriced, as were all of the fees associated with renting /​garages /​pets, but it was very close to my work, so I thought it made sense at the time.
The application fee is $ 65 — but really it’s $ 365 because they take your deposit immediately, before you are even approved. The next day, I faxed over a couple of pay stubs and had to call multiple times to find someone to tell me if I had been approved.
Later that same week, I decided I had made a bad choice. The area has nothing but gas stations and chain fast food places, and the cost of the apartment is not worth the pain. Most places give you a week to change your mind. AMLI gives you 24 hours — not from when you are approved, but from when you click the button to turn in the online form.
I called and cancelled this morning. The woman on the phone told me she would call me back about getting my deposit back, but she never did. I called again at the end of the day, and the manager answered. She was rude to me from the get-​go, and she refused to give me any part of the $ 365 back. (I didn’t expect the $ 65 application fee back.)
I was going to move in at the end of January, meaning that AMLI was not going to get rent from me for most of that month anyway. There were three identical apartments available for rent for the same price at that same time. Maybe someone will even rent this one and move in earlier, which will make them more money. And yet, somehow I’ve cost them $ 300 by changing my mind in a couple of days. It’s almost Christmas, for God’s sake! Have a heart!
This is the problem with a corporate rental place like this. I am not a person to them. My case cannot be considered individually. Any decision is a matter of policy. What a terrible landlord to have. I will never rent at an AMLI, and neither should you.
