History

Established in 2010.

Farnsworth Auto & Tire had been servicing Aurora and it’s surrounding communities for many, many years before Mike Brend bought it in February 2010. Mike Brend believes in taking care of the client. Our job at Auto Plus is to take care of our clients automotive needs so they are in safe, reliable vehicles. This is why we believe in doing thorough vehicle inspections. We can then inform clients of their car’s condition: what needs to be done now because it’s a safety issue and what items can wait until later to address. Auto Plus offers free loaner vehicles, free shuttle service, late night drop off, convenient hours, comfortable waiting areas and many more features to make getting your car repaired more convenient and affordable. We offer repair options for our clients based on how long they plan to keep the car. We have a 2 year/24,000 mile warranty on all repairs plus lifetime warranty on select repairs. Mike Brend opened Auto Plus in Addison in July of 1990. Since that time he has expanded the business to now 3 locations. He bought CK Auto Repair in Lombard in 2005 and added Farnsworth Auto & Tire (Now Auto Plus) in 2010. Mike is committed to giving his clients 100% satisfaction. He is always available to talk with clients. He does monthly training with his staff and expects all employees to do continuing education classes. Technology is also a big concentration for him. Cars are basically computers on wheels. Auto Plus is committed to staying current with all forms of technology so we can meet the needs of our clients. Auto Plus is your one stop shop. We specialize in all makes and models. We do oil changes, brakes, emissions, check engine lights, pre-​purchase inspections, belts, hoses, tires and so much more. Auto Plus wants to make getting your car repaired as convenient as possible: free loaner vehicles, free shuttle service, drop off/​pick up of cars, weekend hours, and more!

Friendly. Efficient and fair priced. I especially liked that there were no hidden charges. The price advertised is the price you pay. Also, their recommendations for additional work were realistic. They only listed one item on my review.

I have been taking my cars to Auto Plus for years, back when the only Auto Plus was the one in Addison. It started with an issue that a member of the family who has his own shop, told me could not be fixed. Needless to say the issue was corrected by Auto Plus and I have been a returning customer ever since.
They shoot you straight. They do not sell you any repair you do not need. They stand behind their work 100%.
I will make the hour long drive so that my cars are always serviced by Auto Plus.

I discovered another great Aurora-​area auto shop today with Auto Plus. I went in for my 25,000 mile service on my car which basically just amounted to a general inspection, oil change, and tire rotation. I always figure a great way to judge a shop like this is when you tell them to do something and they come back and say «Hey, you don’t need that.» This was the case with my tire rotation. The way my tires have worn I actually ~didn’t~ want to rotate them yet despite what the service interval said.
They could’ve just as easily rotated them, or even told me they rotated them and left then and charged me for it, I never would’ve known. Additionally, the idiots at the Toyota dealership who changed my oil last really ratcheted down the oil filter to the point that they thought they might break something when they took it off. Instead of just shouting «YOLO,» getting the breaker bar, and charging me for anything that broke, the service manager Eric explained the situation, walked me out there, confirmed the availability of parts if things broke, and got me to tell them to go ahead and try before they did.
This all left me with a real honest vibe, since, as I mentioned, they could’ve charge me for rotating my tires and they could’ve just broken the oil filter retaining cowl and charged me for a new one and I just would’ve gone with it. So often it feels like getting your car repaired is a matter of how much you’re going to get gouged since the mechanics know what they’re doing (or how to convince you of that) and you don’t, which is why you’re there in the first place. It’s nice going somewhere where that doesn’t feel like that’s the case.
My car is still very young so I can’t see myself needing the service of Auto Plus beyond just maintenance for a real long time… But it’s nice knowing they’re there.

My wife and I moved to the area almost 3 years ago and I have taken every vehicle we have owned (3) and my company fleet vehicle to Auto Plus and have never received anything less than great service.
We’ve had a car with 127, xxx miles, a car just out of warranty, and even our new car getting OEM factory recommended service (cheaper than the dealer), plus the work truck, and they’ve always been honest, efficient and helpful. We’ve had oil changes, new tires, suspension, and more all done here.
Drop off service with rides home/​pick-​up when service is complete or a couple of loaner vehicles are available most times. They document most inspection issues with vehicles with photos and keep them in the system for reference. They even recognize us by now. They also have paid us for referrals from friends and send reminders for service and discounts. Great place!

I love this place. They take good care of me and seem very honest. To the point they didn’t sell me tires once. I went in there wanting to buy tires they said that I should wait 6 more months because they weren’t that bad and to get them right before or after winter.
They even have a loaner car they can offer.
They’ve taken care of some small things for me, and some huge things too. A lot of times for the small things they don’t charge me.
It was winter and my one door froze open. I live in a condo so I can’t plug in a hair dryer to defrost it. And, it was my back passenger side door.
I was running late for work that day too, in a frenzy I actually called off. But I took it there as it’s so close to me. The guy sat out there for 15 minutes heating my door. Told me to go inside and get warm. Gave me hot chocolate.
He came in with ice forming on his lips and told me I was all set. I asked how much, he said I can’t charge you for that. I said can I at least tip you so that you could get lunch or something. He said no.
I’ll always be back. It’s so easy for me.
Don’t get me wrong there were times they couldn’t fix something or didn’t know what was wrong. But they asked me to bring my truck in and kept trying. That’s golden.

I couldn’t be more satisfied with my experience at Auto Plus in Aurora. I had an emergency situation today when my car began smoking under the hood at a traffic light. I needed to find a mechanic fast and luckily they were located within a block of the intersection of Farnsworth and Indian Trail in Aurora.
The bays were full and it was obviously busy, but they still managed to fit my car in and get several things fixed.
They even drove me home (30 min away) so I wouldn’t have to wait, and picked me back up when it was done! They also have loaner cars so you don’t have to wait, if you’re a regularly scheduled customer.
They were thorough and honest, and the prices were reasonable. I knew approximately what the repairs would have cost elsewhere, as I had checked out other places closer to home, knowing I needed work done soon.
Even though I am a woman, and was desperate for help, I didn’t get taken advantage of, and that was a huge relief.
Eric and Tim went out of their way to make this scary experience turn out well.
I will be coming back for all of my repair work in the future. They offer 0% financing for 6 months and text or email reminders for when routine maintenance is due. This is something I really need as I forget to do the basic stuff when my car is running well.
I’m a very happy new customer.

I took my VW jetta here cause I discovered some fluid was leaking from my car.
So this was the nearest auto service shop. They checked it and confirmed there
was a oil leak and told me they didnt do that at there shop. I had a warrenty so wasnt planning on doing the service there anyways. Thought they were really nice for checking it. However they told me my rotors were worped and pads were bad. I asked for a estimate they came back with $ 1180.00 which even for being a women I thought it was pricey. So I took it into VW dealer shop and had other work done and asked them to check brakes. They said they were fine. Then took to Merlins in Montgomery and they confirmed brakes were in good condition. SCAREY beware!!!

I also took my Tahoe there with a Groupon for a free oil change and free windshield wipers. The main mechanic told me I needed over $ 2000 worth of repairs. He even brought me into the garage to show me how bad my brakes looked and how I only had less than 10% left on them. I had no clue what I was looking at. He also showed me an oil leak which I was surprised to see because we had no traces of oil in our garage to indicate that. He told me I was at risk driving it and he could start working on it right away. I said I needed to contact my husband first. He insisted I call my husband right then & there, which I refused to do since my husband was at work. While waiting to finish the oil change, the mechanic came to me again and said he didn’t have the right windshield wipers because my Tahoe needed a «special» kind. So he just gave me a coupon. Again he insisted I leave my Tahoe and offered to rent me a car while my Tahoe would be in the shop… No way!
I took my Tahoe to another shop and it turned out it didn’t need $ 2000 of major repairs. The brakes were fine and the mechanic said the bolts were loosened to create the leak. He tightened them and we had no more issues of leaking oil. My Tahoe doesn’t require special windshield wipers because I could buy them anywhere.
BEWARE — THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU if you know nothing about cars. They are very pushy and will tell you anything to make you believe your car needs urgent repairs. While I was there, I heard the mechanic giving the same BS to another woman. Definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND this place!

My 18 yr old daughter went there because she had a coupon for a free oil change. They ended up telling her that she needed $ 1,200 worth of work done to replace the ball joints, U joints, and other misc. stuff, and that her car was unsafe to drive as it was. They told her on a scale of 1 to 10 she was at an 8 for the possibility that her wheel (s) would fall off while driving. They frightened her into thinking her safety was at risk. She gave me their written estimate, and I ended up taking her car to a trusted mechanic for a second opinion, and I was told the car was completely safe to drive. It didn’t need any of the work they told her she needed. They should be ashamed of themselves taking advantage of people that don’t know anything about mechanics. I believe they are shady and I would not recommend going there.

This business is now called Farnsworth Auto Plus and Tire. I have been a customer of Auto Plus at the Lombard location for 5 years. I was driving all the way to Lombard because I was so impressed with their service and was excited that now I no longer have to drive far from home for dependable service. I now find the same great service close to home. The staff are always friendly and professional. They help me keep my car running which is important because I depend on my vehicle to commute to work and they are affordable. They keep me informed about my vehicle so if there is routine maintenance that can be anticipated I can budget for future repairs.
