Fox Valley Homebrew & Winery Supplies is a homebrew shop that has been serving clients in the Aurora area since 2004. Located one block south of the Paramount Theater and two blocks south of the Hollywood Casino, we carry a wide range of beer making and winemaking supplies to meet your homebrew and winemaking needs. In addition to the sales of ingredients, equipment, and kits, we also offer classes and clinics on beer brewing and winemaking. Stop in today or contact us for more information!

History

Established in 2004.

Partners started the business in 2004 as a part-​time business providing equipment and supplies to homebrewers. The small upstairs business expanded in 2007 to a down stairs level with increased hours. This was largely due to a loyal customer base and continued expansion of products, equipment, and staff support.

I have been going to Fox Valley Homebrew for over two years now, these guys are always attentive and helpful when I need something. If they don’t have they are always more than willing to order it for me which is very helpful. They have saved me on brew day on many occasions when I need emergency supplies they carry everything essential and to have that so close to home is indispensable.

I don’t personally homebrew but I always go in to buy gift certificates for family who do. They are always helpful and they offer many classes for learning how to make wine or beer. A great place to buy from if you’re in need and don’t want to trek all the way to Winfield to buy supplies. I always get notifications for coupons as well. Check the hours before you head out though, I think they close earlier in the day like most businesses in Aurora downtown.

Great place for beginners!
When I first started brewing, the staff at Fox Valley Homebrew truly walked me through the entire process from start to finish. The location provides trainings with experienced brewers, which also provides a great way to network. The location provides discounts on some items and various price points on items you need for the process. The staff is always helpful and accommodating. As a unique small business, located in my community of Aurora, I will continue to support it so it stays around.

Decent selection of supplies here. They are way over priced though. A lot of the items they had were not labeled with prices and after they rang me up I had put back almost everything I was going to buy. I ended up purchasing only one item out of the lot that I was initially going to get and I really only got it because I felt bad. The employee was not very knowledgeable but friendly. The owner was just the opposite.

I have been brewing for about 10 years and I am a frequent shopper here. I love supporting my local homebrew supply shop. They usually have what I need and will get it for me if they don’t. Very nice people who greet me by name when I stop in. Great shop.

I live in the Aurora area so it’s a perfect location for me. I am a brand new brewer and the staff here has been nothing but helpful to me. If you go in there on the weekends there are free brewing classes to help anyone who is interested. They have a large selection of Brewers Best ingredient kits that make brewing a lot easier for the beginner like myself. And they are priced right there with other brew shops…

I live in downtown Aurora and always go here for my home brew supplies. I’ve found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable. Often when I go in, Fred is working and he is always able to help me find something new to do. I’ve also been to one of their free seminars and found it very informative. I’m sure you can order certain things cheaper on the Internet, but it’s nice to have the human-​factor help you pick things out when starting out as a home brewer.
Keep in mind that this is a home brew AND winery supply store. Some of the employees know more about wine making and others about home brewing.

I have visited this store three times, so I feel that’s enough for an accurate representation.
Pros:
Decent selection of ingredients and equipment
Good display of magazines (Zymurgy, BYO)
Cons:
Absurdly expensive
–I just purchased two items — a 3-​lb bag of dried malt extract and ½ lb. of grain. Total was $ 16.77 with tax! $ 13.90 for extract — it is $ 11 at the most anywhere else I have been. The grain cost twice as much as everywhere else I have been.
Mediocre customer service
–one out of three times I have been asked if I needed any help. Had to wait for someone to pay at the front.
I agree with other reviews — if in a pinch for an ingredient or two, this place would work. Just realize you will pay a premium for it.

I like this place because everyone I have worked with are super friendly and really try to help you out. I would agree with previous reviewers that it would be nice if some employees were more knowledgeable, but they have always done their best and were very nice.

Decent place.
The prices seem pretty typical of homebrew stores.
Their selection is pretty good, the have all the staples and have never been out of anything that I needed.
The layout is quite strange, you’ll see if you stop by.
I’m not sure if the staff here really knows much about brewing. I’m not sure if they’re the owners or if they just work there but I really wish they could have been more helpful and knowledgeable.
I usually only come here to pick up last minute supplies on a Sunday brew day when I forgot something.

Overall, a very good home brew supply shop.
I am new to the world of home brewing, and the people at this shop were very helpful. They were able to answer my questions as well as help me select everything I needed to finish brewing and bottle my first batches of mead.
One note: their yeast prices can be a bit steep (Red Star Pasteur Champaign, $ 1.30 per packet… usually sells for $ 0.50-ish elsewhere).
