Took my husband for a spa day for his birthday. The entire experience was awful and disappointing. Got a call before we left telling me I can’t have massage because masseuse called off but my husband can. I agreed to a longer facial and neck/​foot massage just so I didn’t have to ruin his birthday plans.. Was told they’d also throw in an expensive facial mask and arm massage.
Once we got there the receptionist didn’t know how to confirm our certificate and made us feel like we were somehow to blame. Finally she figured it out. No apology.
Lunch was a joke. Salmon salad had a 2×2 piece of salmon and spinach. That’s it. It took 30 minutes to get it and there were only 3 tables of customers.
After checking in we were taken upstairs to wait for our facials and my husband’s massage. The room smelled musty and I got bit by some sort of gnat.
My husband went for his service first and I waited for 20 minutes before the aesthetician came to finally get me. Once I laid on the bed in the room I thought it would break it was so rickety. The shoulder/​arm/​foot massage never happened. It was a gentle rubbing instead of massaging. The lotions smelled like cheap granny rose perfume and the facial technique was just rubbing my face but with lotion this time.
Upon checking out, the clerk (possibly the owner) asked how everything was to which I responded «uh sort of ok». She didn’t even react. Could care less. I tipped all the employees 15% because I can’t stiff a service worker, but now I’m regretting it because every one of them was horrific!
Don’t go here. It’s gross (cob webs, broken waterfall fountain, broken whirlpool, peeling paint, musty smells, gnats) a waste of vacation time and most of all a waste of a birthday celebration and money. Disgusting! This place should be closed down!!!

My husband and I stayed at Mario’s for his birthday the bed was so comfy and the whirlpool
bath was such a nice treat in the room. Dinner was to die for. Then the next morning off
to the spa for a day of relaxation, boy were we pampered massage, facials, and pedicures
and manicures. All we can say is if you need pampered this is the place to go, 90% of the
staff has been employed there for 15+ years need I say more.

Facility– There is free WiFi but it’s too slow. Hopefully when they do upgrades to the building they’ll consider upgrading the internet as well. In this era slow internet is intolerable. I agree with comments about the building being outdated but that didn’t bother me as much as the slow internet.
Spa-​It was hard to get used to walking through the dining area in your robe while people are eating but I guess that is the only way to get from your room to the spa. I did notice that the service was a bit rushed at times, perhaps they have a hard time managing the schedules. It seemed as if timing was highly important, there were a lot of people getting services so they were escorting you to your next station very timely like clockwork. I’m glad they had escorts because the place is a maze.
Overall– my stay was pleasant. The spa services were divine! The food was good a little overpriced, though. The overa service superb.

my wife and i were here recently for a couples massage. i’ll spell it out for you and you see if you would come back to this place:
1. we made appointments and arrived with gift cards that we received as a wedding gift. when we were sitting down filling out their paperwork, the receptionist comes over and says «these gift cards are expired.» i told her that couldn’t be true since we received them a few months back as wedding gifts. she argued with me a bit and then said «well i’ll check — we’ve been having computer issues.» she then returned and said the cards we NOT expired. thanks for checking on that before you made us feel uncomfortable.
2. the hot tub was out of order and if you read previous reviews, you’ll see that the hot tub area has not been working for a long time. since the rest of the place is less than clean — i’m sure the hot tub was getting too many people sick.
3. they bring you to this waiting room upstairs that i guess is supposed to give you that «country club» feel. i don’t know — it may have been able to do that 10 years ago when the plaster wasn’t peeling off the walls and the carpet was new. it looks like they haven’t cleaned the carpet in this area since it was installed. the place has a generally dirty feeling to it.
4. we made our reservations a week in advance. my wife asked for a male masseuse and a female for me — that didn’t happen. why? because whoever is running mario’s really doesn’t care.
5. we received two $ 100 gift cards. their 1 hour massage is $ 75. our massages lasted not even 40 minutes. so basically — they ripped us off.
so after reading this, let me know if you would ever go back. if you decide to go, bring hand sanitizer and scrub down after you get home.

My wife and I are frequent buyers of spa day packages at least a few times a year. We used to frequent Mario’s often getting the 3 treatment package (grotto, massage, and pedicure).
We quit going to Mario’s a few years ago after some experiences that irked us.
First — the place was always packed. Many weekend it was like an assembly line of massage treatments and it made you hardly feel special or pampered. The relaxation room seems to be always filled with people coming in and out and people waiting in the assembly line for the next appointment. This certainly did not make the experience feel special or romantic.
Second — unlimited complementary sparkling wine used to be included. The last time we were there, the policy was changed to first one free and then al-​la carte all the rest. When my wife and I are doing a spa day, it was not uncommon to put down a few glasses over the course of hours. When we got the final bill, it added up.
Third — yeah, I’ll admit it; I do my massages/​treatments nude and I’m nude under the robe. So what, many males and females do it that way and I’ve gotten all my previous treatments at Mario’s no problem. However, the last time my wife and I were there the massage therapists were really weird about me being nude under the robe. After the massage, they followed me to the bathroom and handed me a cover-​up to wear under the robe. When they handed it to me, they were very insistent that I had to wear it. I put it on and didn’t complain, but it was still very odd. I’m not sure what the deal was. I’ve had massages and treatments at many, many places (Vail, Park City, Ritz St. Thomas, Ritz Orlando, etc) and I’ve never had such an experience. So odd and it kinda annoyed me. It’s a spa, people are nude under the robe. That is what happens and get over it. Its not like I was flashing people and I’m always discreet and make sure everything is covered with the robe
After these items we tried the Spa at Yellow creek in Bath and had a completely different (much better) experience. Yellowcreek has now become our go-​to place. Massages and treatments are more expensive, but you don’t get the crowds and the issues I mentioned above. Yellowcreek overall is a much more luxurious and pampered experience.

The spa is outdated. I’ve enjoyed going to the spa over the years. My sister-​in-​law and I always planned a «spa day» at Mario’s and this year we were very disappointed in changes to the service. The grotto was included as part of our spa teaser package but was closed for repairs. The nail technician are unable to remove gel or shellac nail polish. Instead we were given a hair style. Our hair was styled as if it was the 1970’s, it did make for a good laugh. One of the things we enjoyed on our previous visits was eating lunch in our robes and also the complimentary wine provided while waiting for our services. We were informed this is no longer offered. When we complained we were told by numerous employees the owners are in their 80’s and the children do not want to have anything to do with the spa. I am not sure how that related to the changes in the service. We sent an email, but it went unanswered.
I would be hesitant to purchase a gift certificate for use in the future. The spa continues to offer special packages which include the grotto as part of the package, one is paying for a service that is not available. From the comments of the employees regarding the age of the owners and the family interest, it would suggest the spa may not be open much longer.

Unenjoyable, outdated, freezing cold, unsanitary. A few words that come to mind after my most recent experience at this «spa.»
It speaks volumes when you’re told by the staff that the whirlpool is closed «for health reasons.» That was our introduction to our «spa teaser» and it just went downhill from there. The massages (x 2! Both me and my mom share the same opinion) were less than desirable in a freezing cold environment with disgusting smelling «unscented» massage lotion that probably has been sitting on the shelf since the last time this place was renovated… which, if you’ve been there, you’d know that it’s been quite some time since this place saw any esthetic attention. Both my mom and I couldn’t wait for our «spa torture» session to be completed and immediately left after our first of three spa services, forfeiting the rest of our package. We were both anxious to get home to shower and rid ourselves of the unsanitary feeling you have when you leave this place.
I’m sure this place was spectacular in their hey-​day (being able to demand the luxurious prices that they charge) but it seems that this place is no longer «Mario’s» priority and therefore the establishment and the quality of services has suffered tremendously. There are many lovely spa establishments in the greater Cleveland area that your money would be better spent and the quality would be remarkably better.

Yes the building is outdated but that is the ambiance of going there. I loved the old fashioned feel to this place. We had dinner at the cabin and it was amazing. We had sea bass and walleye. The restaurant was decorated beautiful for Christmas. The room had a lovely old fashion feel and was clean. The only thing is I wish the television would have been a little more current. We enjoyed the sauna and hour massages the next day. Great experience and would defiantly go back.

The masseuse is amazing!!! Two different treatments from her and both were the best ever. I totally agree that the building is outdated, but by far the receptionist (s) are THE. WORST!!! I have never been made to feel as stupid as I was simply trying to understand the services. They made me pay and tip in advance?! The first time I arrived 15 – 20 minutes before my appointment began and the woman snipped, «you’re early». Dugh! I was being respectful to the technician. I won’t go back again, which is terrible, because it was a powerful and restorative massage, but I will not spend another penny there!

Very disappointed with the rudeness I encountered with whomever answered the phone. I received a Living Social voucher as a maid of honor gift from my best friend at the very end of August and figured the promotional value would be good for a year, like gift cards. Well, my mistake for assuming because when I checked it had expired ¹²⁄₁₄. Called Mario’s and a woman with smoker’s voice answered and immediately said «hold please». Could tell by her tone how this would go. When she returned I explained that I have this voucher and would like to schedule the service and as a new customer, would they please honor the promo value? Without hesitation she immediately stated that they had extended the courtesy for many people through December and January and «have to cut it off somewhere». I guess I’m that «somewhere». I explained it was an honest oversight on my end and could she please make an exception for a new customer? Nope. And I wouldn’t be leaving this review had she been more professional and pleasant to speak with. I angrily replied, «well that’s not great customer service». She said «have a nice day» and hung up. I guess they don’t care about their reputation, as apparent by my experience and all the other negative reviews on here. Rude staff with no class-​great representation of your business, «Mario» or whatever owner’s name is. You may want to consider how competitive the salon and spa industry is and reconsider who you choose to answer calls.

Awful.
My father and I took my mom to the Cabin restaurant for a special birthday dinner, but it was not to be. We had 8:00 reservations for the main dining room by the bar, which we specially asked for because of their holiday decorations. When we arrived however, there were no tables available and we were seated at the bar until one cleared up. Things happen, so far no big deal.
Around 8:45 we were finally seated, and though attention from our waitress, Cindy, was a bit on the lax side, we got our orders in and finished our drinks from the bar.
And waited. And waited. I think we were checked up on once during the hour between our seating and our meal arriving.
Finally, around 9:45 our meals came out after we reminded the waitress how long it had been. Mine was warm but not hot, but my father’s $ 38 Delmonico steak was cold. It was sent back, but since they were sold out they offered him a filet (which later came out with half the amount of sides that the original dish had. It was also a whole dollar less). We got a brief «I’m sorry» and an excuse that all three dining rooms were full and the kitchens were at full capacity — except our dining room was perhaps 30% full. After a shrug our waitress vanished again.
We pointed out our concerns to the maitre’d and got another curt apology, but not much else. For a total bill that came out north of $ 130, given the service and the disappointents we were hoping for a comped bill, or at the very least an offer of a dessert or something, but no such luck.
For years my family has been coming here, and until tonight we were quite fond of it. It seems, however, that management has gotten complacent in their position as one of the better restaurants in the area and let things slide. Unfortunately I think we’ll be looking elsewhere in the future.

I received a gift card for a spa scape for two — which had a dollar value of $ 399. With this we received two spa services each — the facials were good — the whirlpool left a lot to be desired — dark and dingy! Also received $ 50 toward our meal — well you would think that would be quite enough — well it wasn’t everything overpriced on the menu — are meal ended up being $ 113 over with tip included! The surprise was when we checked out — they charged a total of $ 40. in tax because they added on to total bill BEFORE taking the gift card off!!! Also the rooms are so dated — no heat — old style box TV — remote did not work — when we complained they said they fixed it — well it only worked for volume and channels — not for turning off/​on! Also no toiletries — we called down — they finally brought some to the room — but looks like they just grabbed a handful — 3 of conditioners — 1 shampoo — 1 body lotion and 3 of a facial stay on lotion! Also asked how to work the electronic safe in the room — we were told they did not work — just there for the look! Also had the old type key for opening — no key card. We arrived when we were supposed to but where told our room was not ready yet??? After waiting about 15 minutes we were taken to our room. I had to ask how we go about receiving are planned services — we were told — «just put on your robes and come down to the front desk» — All in all a very poor experience — for $ 500 can go to a real luxury hotel and have great food and even use their services!

Great experience. Came for my wife’s birthday and had a couples massage. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We had lunch after which the service was excellent. I highly recommended Mario’s as it makes for a great gift

My mother took me here today as part of my Xmas gift. First of all for a spa it was freezing. The staff just seamed like they were always in a rush. The girl who did my facial rushed through all the massage points so I could the even relax. As part of the package I got a hair style. The lady didn’t listen to what I wanted at all, she burned my scalp while blow drying and then tried to put dirty rollers in my hair. She only stopped bc I called her out. I will never go back or let my mother spend her hard earned money at this dump.

Mario’s International Spa in Aurora was not relaxing at all. The women’s changing room is two by two and half the locks on the lockers don’t even work. The treatment rooms are either freezing (upstairs) on an oven (downstairs). My sister and I were looking forward to our half of day relaxation but we both agreed our experience was two star at best. Neither one of us had been there before so we had high hopes. The receptionist was completely rude when we walked in. Never said hello or even made any eye contact when she pointed to a room to tell us to sit down and wait for someone to come over to us. The lady who did my sisters massage and facial smelled like an ashtray and that was all she could think about. Nasty! We will not be returning. Quite honestly, the location was the best part of our experience.

Ordered a gift card for my parents 40^th anniversary and took over 2 weeks to receive the gift card which was then after my parents anniversary. Talked to the owner Joanne about this issue and she was very accomindating at first but then she told me she would get back to me on Monday regarding additional compensation since they mailed my gift card to the wrong address and then never heard from her. Have left 4 messages this week with the office voicemail and then an additional 2 with the hotel front desk and have gotten no response. Terrible customer service.

Mario’s International Spa is an outdated spa– at one point it was probably the best spa around however due to time and no upkeep this place has seen better days. I recently made an appointment for a Spa teaser for my Boss along with her expected Sister in law. I had to pre pay and due to some outside issues I went to cancel the reservation and they denied me. I have never had to pre pay for a spa service nor have I ever had to fight with a company to get my money back for services never received. I will never book with them again.

Gross!
This place has gone downhill over the past few years. While waiting to check in the lady in front of us was told that her gift card had expired (less than 6 months old) but she could contact their «corporate» office and they would give her a letter that would allow her to use it… SCAMMERS!!! First of all, why would you issue a gift card with less than 1 year? Second, if «corporate» would allow it then just do the right thing and honor it now. On to my experience, my husband scheduled a couples massage, however, when we were getting ready we were told when scheduling a «couples» massage we would have to actually request specifically to be in the same room. Really??? Because stating a «couple» was not a giveaway on what we wanted? We were then told they had only one room to accommodate a couple and there was a couple there celebrating their 60 year anniversary. That is great they were celebrating a huge milestone but maybe we were as well? Also, I thought this was kind of funny since I had been there a few months prior with my girlfriends and 2 of us were put in the «couples» room and we never requested that, nope never once said we wanted to share a room. The person that checked us in was less than pleasant, actually went out of her way to give a snooty presence. The entire place was just dirty and gross. The flip flops are broken, the robes are scratchy, the lockers are less than any standard remotely considered secure If you are going to command those prices than you need to invest in your business! Also, for the love of showing some kind of respectable business please STOP showing video footage from 3 plus decades ago — just stop!!! That it is not good, NOT EVER! Needless to say after many a massage at the different Mario Spas I will no longer be spending my money with them… YUCK!
Oh I forgot to mentioned when I asked to use the ladies room when my husband was paying, I was shown the rest room with the broken toilet, the one that had been «used» and couldn’t flush. I thought that was a nice touch to such a gross place.

The Spa
I would give it 6 stars if I could. The atmosphere is very warm and cozy, with lots of comfy relaxation rooms. Even when a lot of people are there, you can’t really tell because of this layout. The staff are very professional and courteous and are conscious of keeping a relaxing, calm environment. I had a manicure, massage, steam room, and champagne lunch, and they were all wonderful.
The Restaurant
It really only deserves 4 stars, but since it’s lumped in with the spa it gets an extra star. The service was extremely attentive and friendly. The food was good, not great. My friend and I both had the tortellini, which came in generous portions and were tasty. The champagne was a fun touch, but both of our desserts were nothing exciting. I had the chocolate mousse, which was essentially like chocolate pudding, and my friend’s vanilla gelato was icy, not smooth like it should be. The dining room, like the rest of the establishment, was warm and cozy, and lunch was just as relaxing as the rest of the day.
In all, we had a wonderful, relaxing visit and look forward to visiting again soon!

Mario’s is solid — reliable and timeless.
This review is for both the Spa and the Cabin (aka Mario’s Restaurant).
The Spa:
I’ve been pampered here solo, with a BFF, and even an entire wedding party. Always a positive experience — preferably while enjoying a mimosa or glass of wine, which is offered as a complimentary part of their service. Everything is very clean and fairly state of the art-​ish. Manicures, pedicures, waxes (etc) are all quite professional and personable — everyone’s different, but I always make a special request for Gabriella, she’s super sweet and an all-​around class act.
The Cabin:
My family has been patrons for 20+ years and I’ve been accompanying them since I was «old enough» to be taken to a formal restaurant. Whether it’s a special occasion like Christmas Eve (a tradition for us) or for an occasional breakfast (served daily, and inexpensively) the food is always impressive. The menu, however is typically limited and changed seasonally — best described as elegant Americana (think surf ‘n turf meets lobster bisque and Caesar salad). The atmosphere is a balance of cozy and upscale — envision a baby grand piano in a woods-​y cabin setting with white Christmas lights (lit year round).
This establishment is pretty much a classic, and in a climate of forever-​changing trends, I am confident that Mario’s will remain a favorite for many years to come.
