They moved. The Catfish King has reopened in the old Woody’s Wings location. They have been opened for 10 days now, so they are still ironing out the kinks. The food is still good and the waitress was phenomenal. I will update this review after they have been open a bit longer, but its good to have a soul food restaurant in the neighborhood.

Heads up — Catfish King looks to be permantly closed. This is sad because they had good food. They said they were moving but looks like the IRS got there first and closed them up

The food is great! The wait time is horrible! They have moved close to Illif and Chambers with the nerve to have a drive thru. Do not go through the drive-thru. We waited for 30 minutes and then were asked to wait longer in the parking lot. We waited an additional 10 minutes. They should either close the drive-thru or only serve sandwiches and French fries from it. I hope they work on the wait times. And to top it off, we were missing food from our order.

Property seized for nonpayment of taxes. So closed at the moment but I have heard good things about the food from others. Outward appearance seemed nice. I hope the business owners work things out. If they do, then I will gladly return to try them out.

The service was ok, had a new young lady helping us. The food was OK had to pork chops. They was a little on the dry side but I will come again to try something else..

Good family run business. Fried chicken was good — and large! Large portions for everything it seems like. The family was very attentive and friendly. The only downside is that the wait for the signature dish — catfish — was really long.

I came in today for the 1st time, i ordered the catfish fillet dinner and it came with 2 sides of my choice. I chose the macaroni and cheese, and hush puppies along with a sweet tea. The customer service was great… very personable and the food was really good. I will be back and spread the word.

Catfish that’ll rock your world! The hush puppies were perfect. They had red beans and rice which wasn’t on the menu, but it made for a great side. The lady who helped us was very charming too.

I had the catfish filet, mac & cheese, and hushpuppies. The food is very good. The service was also good. If you love catfish, I would defiantly check it out.

The fish here is pretty awesome. Super crispy on the outside and nice and moist on the inside! Prices are a little bit high for some things, especially the combos. Stick to the sandwich and specials options, and you won’t regret it! Out of the sides i would skip the french fries and go for the hush puppies(coleslaw and the greens are not too bad either)!

OMG! I have been looking for a place to eat some good soul food. All I can say is the . The catfish was so delicious, seasoned well and hot when it came to the table. The gizzards me and my sister shared were also seasoned well and yummy. I can’t wait to go back and try the bbq and the caramel cake.

The food was really good. It is about time that a place opened nearby that had GOOD southern soul food. The catfish was great. Huge portion. You can feed a family of four off of one of their dinner dishes. I love trying new places by asking the employees to pick out what their favorite dish. The owner, the Catfish King himself helped me. He picked out the catfish lunch sandwich, which was delicious. The sides were nice as well. My only gripe, the wait. I came in around 3pm. There were two people in front of me and four after me, all of which got their food before I did. The gentleman after me ordered his food to eat there, also the catfish lunch. He got his food in five minutes, ate his whole lunch, and paid and left before I even got mine. The total wait, 55 mins. By the time I got someone’s attention, they mentioned how they forgot what my order was. I like the food, maybe not enough to wait that long. Maybe after they work out the small kinks, I will head on back. Good luck with your new business.

I have been here two more times since my first review and I must say that I am truly a happy camper! Everything that I’ve had here is yummy. If something is not up to snuff, just let them know as they seem to be motivated to please. Also, if you don’t have at least 30 – 40 minutes to wait on your catfish then please… order something already prepared like the BBQ ribs. This is not pre-battered/pre-cooked catfish. It’s not McDonald’s people. Plus you have to add a bit of time to that for those who arrived before you, call in orders, etc. Stop by and get yourself some Catfish or choose from the long list of other options and tell Angelo(The Catfish King/Owner) that Tonia said hi! Come hungry, be patient, Leave happy!

The owners are very nice people and are trying very hard. I think they will be successful. The piece of whiting was huge and had corn meal batter. We did not try the ribs.

Great food! The blackened catfish was nice and tender; a bit of hot sauce to round out the flavor. Had some sweet corn and a very tasty Mac and cheese. Tasted some of the baked potato and it was done very well with no dryness. For dessert, sweet potato our and the spices came out great! A definite must return!

I went Friday evening to Catfish King, not knowing it was only there second night of being open. The restaurant was about half full and about half a dozen waiting for carry out. I was told up front the wait time was about 30 minutes and seated promptly. Drink order taken and I was looking through the menu. I quickly realized this place used to be Shead’s and it has received a nice face lift inside. The kitchen smelled good and I was waiting for this all day. I ordered two meals, one for that evening and one for my lunch today for work. For dinner I had the Blackened Catfish with sides of collard greens and macaroni and cheese. Ordered peach cobbler for dessert. They were right, the entrée took a while to prepare, I assume the kitchen was trying to find their stride given it was their second day open. Regardless, Kandice(hope I spelled your name right) had brought out the dessert first which I really aprpreciated. Man was it good too. Definitely recommend their peach cobbler. About ten minutes later the meal arrived and man it was so worth the wait. I would’ve waited an hour. The catfish was seasoned and cooked perfectly, two big filets. The greens were melt in your mouth style with nice chunks of ham hocks. The macaroni, like everything else was home made, baked mac and cheese, really good. The second plate I ordered for lunch was a barbecue combo which was three short ribs, brisket and half of a chicken served on rolls. Mac and cheese and collard greens for sides of course. Had this plate today at work. Tried everything cold then heated it up. Honestly, the food is so good you can have it either way. The best thing I truly loved about Catfish King was their home made sauce. Not some bottled junk, truly homemade and awesome. Kandice mixed together their spice rub into the hot sauce as a take away for my second meal. It was off the chain good. Service was up front on the wait time, they were extremely cordial and polite and the food was fantastic. I highly recommend anyone who loves soul food to seriously check this place out. Angelo(again, sorry if I butchered your name) who I am assuming is the owner, came out and asked how was the food, checked on and served plates to every table to help. You do not see that often. Several fist bumps and a hand shake at the end of the meal, I truly felt like I was back home eating food you prepare for yourself. If you are traveling and want tasty home cooked food with a lot of flavor and soul, this place is definitely for you. I could tell by the other locals coming in, word of mouth is spreading fast with this place. I hope they are here for years to come.
