Waiting in line, ordering and paying was utter mayhem. Right on busy South Congress, the foot traffic and seating for other restaurants makes standing in this line, which can stretch far down the road, feel like much more work than it’s worth. Add to that a large group of college freshman out of their minds excited for ice cream in front of you and it’s enough to skip it altogether. However! We persevered, and survived by having half our group wait in the extra long line and the other in a shorter line around the corner which made no sense why it was shorter or existed at all. Super confusing. The kids manning the ship were all over the place — easily distracted, confusing themselves and each other constantly, it was painful to watch. It took way too long to get our cones and the kept having to prompt the kid taking my money to count it and give me change, as he kept jumping into other customer scenarios to «help». I don’t even think we came on a weekend. I believe it was 9pm or so on a Monday night. After all that, the ice cream was fine. It was *fine*.

Our first attempt to go here was on a warm Sunday. The line was down the street so we tried again the next day… success! I am not the biggest fan of ice cream, but I am a fan of this place for the following reasons: 1. Big Lebowski themed scoop of ice cream. I abide. 2. Movie trivia that if you answer correctly, you get a free mix in. 3. Booze-y ice cream(see #1 white russian ice cream). 4. Really amazing service. So fast and friendly.

Such a nice treat on a hot, Texas day. We visited from the Midwest and were ready for some ice cream! My fella opted for the Mexican Vanilla ice cream with cookie dough mix in, all in a waffle cone. It was awesome! I had a fruity smoothie(dairy free!) with a bunch of tasty ingredients I can’t recall now. It hit the spot, though, and was thin enough to drink through a straw. Not all smoothies are created equal! The guys working were hilarious. Expect a line as it’s a 2 man operation(at least when we were there). Worth it!

I wish I could give more stars. I love ice cream. Absolutely love. The vibe of this place was super inviting and the employees were friendly and quick. I came with 47 other teens on a band trip, and although overwhelmed, they handled us perfectly. This place does the whole thing where they mix your picked toppings into your chosen flavor, like Marble Slab. The guy that does this is, honestly, a show-off, but he is a really great preformed when it comes to doing his job. He was very entertaining and intriguing to watch. And the ice cream was delicious of course! Soft and creamy, perfectly melty. And the waffle cone was super delicious too.

Amy’s Ice Cream is so good and a must-do in Austin! The location was fun, but a little difficult to park. The line was long but moved quickly. I had the strawberry ice cream and my boyfriend had the brownie sundae(with Mexican vanilla and hot fudge). The plain strawberry was delicious! It was simple, but had a lot of flavor and was very creamy. The brownie sundae was phenomenal! I didn’t think that the Mexican vanilla could be that much better than regular vanilla but it was one of the best ice creams I’ve ever had. Definitely worth the wait!

Yum! Yes! They had about ten different flavors and then a variety of toppings/mix ins. I loved the guy that helped us he was super friendly and made our experience great. They also have smoothies. The walk up corner location is very cute and hipster. The ‘tiny’ size was actually just enough-it’s really rich and real.

Loved Amy’s ice cream! I got a «tiny» scoop of Mexican vanilla that was actually pretty big. For vanilla, this was anything but boring. It was super flavorful and you can tell it’s real ice cream and not full of fake junk because it melts quickly! The cone was a little stale but the awesome ice cream made up for it. The people working behind the window were super upbeat and fun to talk to, too. Definitely worth stopping by for a scoop or two!

What a unique ice cream stop! The shop, more like a stand, is set up for you to order through a window from the sidewalk. Before you order, the outside wall has all the regular flavors listed as well as the specials listed closer to the order window. I had a cup of the cherry cheesecake with Reese’s peanut butter cup(for as surprisingly sweet it is, it made for the perfect dessert. Watching them prepare it is another thing. It was almost in the style of Coldstone’s — using two giant scooper things, the cream was beaten, churrned, and shaped into a ball for my cup. Great sweet stop.

The line for ice cream was about 15 people long. We figured this must be great ice cream and chanced it. We stood in line for 30 minutes. A couple times we considered leaving. The line just didn’t move. When we got to the counter, I expected to see a harried staff zooming around to keep up with the customer demand. I reasoned that maybe someone called in sick and they were short-staffed. Nope. Four people working. Only one working with customers, making ice cream.(And I’m pretty sure he was high.) One sitting on the counter rewriting the flavors in fun handwriting on a chalkboard meant as an internal reference for the staff. One having a chat with the person at the chalkboard. And the last person leisurely cleaning the counter. She looked out at the line and asked how long we waited. I told her how long and thought, «Good, maybe they’ll pick up the pace for the poor folks behind us!» Nope. She laughed when I told her. Like we were a bunch of schmucks. Do you think she jumped over to the empty ice cream making station and called for the next customer? :(I think you know the answer. The ice cream tasted great. That’s the only reason the place gets 2 stars.

Waited, and waited in line for ice cream. Ugh. Being as though I’m not a patient person, this was agonizing. The kid in front of me could not decide. There was one person working only and I guess the other was on a break. I exhaled and went with the flow. So glad I waited! There were lots of favors that sounded awesome. I would have liked to try them all but I settled on the sweet cream with almonds.(This was my attempt to be healthy. Almonds are good for you!) I had the smallest cup they had because of my watching calories. If not for that, I would have ordered the LARGEST size they had. This ice cream was so danged delicious and folks, I consider myself to be an ice cream aficionado. It was creamy and rich and dare I say decadent? Yes, I would! That’s what I want in a dessert! So happy with my choice and I wanted more, more, more — but avoided temptation. Now that I’ve discovered Amy’s Ice Cream, I want one in the Phoenix area. I know where I’d head on those 110 degree days!

The line can get a bit crazy on a nice warm weekend. But if you can’t get a bite of Amy’s, there is one at the airport! I got the Mexican vanilla and coffee which had Oreo bits in it. Perfect combo with the coffee being my favorite.

Pretty good ice cream. Be prepared to wait in line. They mix it like Cold Stone.

Not an ice cream super fan or anything but Amy’s made me feel like a kid again. No reason you shouldn’t go a little out there with some ice cream. Lactose intolerant? Take some lactaid. Hate ice cream? Get over it. I went with the Mexican Vanilla(which I was assured really was número uno), with some mocha ice cream and some Kit Kats mashed in and mixed together. It was the best of all worlds. The Mexican Vanilla had a subtle hint of coconut and was extremely fresh. The Mocha ice cream had that tasty mocha flavor without being overpowered(the vanilla helped cut it down). Throw in some chocolate wafers and you have ice cream that blows away pretty much any other ice cream I’ve ever had. Plus, they were super nice at the window. Amy’s is like the Dutch Bros Coffee of ice cream. Delicious ice cream with some unique flavor all with super friendly service. This is a winner.

If you ever find yourself along South Congress(SoCo) in Austin, do yourself a favour and make sure you save some room to get some ice cream from Amy’s! They have quite a few options to choose from, but don’t let the small list deter you. Amy’s also has seasonal flavours you can choose from. Choose whatever you would like to put in your ice cream from their list of Crush-ins and treat yourself to a delectable dish. I wish we had an Amy’s Ice Cream in Canada — I would have to say it’s even better than Marble Slab(anyone who knows me, knows that’s my ice cream place). So make sure to check out Amy’s in SoCo — Or any other location they have!

First-time visitors here. Mexican vanilla scoop and shake FTW. Next time I want to try the adult s’mores concoction they’ve got listed, it sounds amazing. Excited to go back!

Yum. I got the teeny Mexican vanilla + crushed graham crackers + strawberries. It was a bit of a wait but it took me until we got to the front of the line to decide what I wanted.

Had the mint chip & belgian chocolate. I recommend both. Portions are large even for a small size. Not bad for the price either. Great location along S. Congress Ave.

Papantla, Mexico, is the home of vanilla, and I’ve gorged myself in the town square on that real Mexican vanilla ice cream produced from the vanilla pods that are locally grown. Amy’s Mexican vanilla ain’t Papantla but it’s ice cream after all and so I ate my serving with a smile on my face.

In a city full of ice cream options, Amy’s Ice Creams was pretty awesome. I visited their SoCo location after losing my hearing at The Continental Club. This location has a popular to go window for grabbing a sweet concoction before heading home. That is exactly what I did. After reviewing the extensive menu, I settled for basic Mexican Vanilla. This is not a basic ice cream. I fully understand why this is their popular flavor. It is sweet and creamy with lots of vanilla flavor and a hint of Mexico in each cold bite. I am guessing a little cinnamon or spice to balance out the vanilla flavor. You can get any combination possible, but there is just something about a simple scoop after a long night on the town. They have locations all over Austin, but this one was a cool way to see people on a lazy Saturday night. I need to just spend a week in Austin and gain about 20 pounds eating ice cream, brisket, and doughnuts. My inner Homer Simpson would be proud.
