Apple Fence

I wish there was a zero star… or better yet, a dark hole for an icon. If you want a company who installs sub standard materials (and will argue with you that they don’t) has horrific customer service (which, I believe was the actual owner) and hires potential meth addicts who will break into your backyard to do a requested repair job on the original job, then go for it. I can’t say enough about how I wish we never ever would’ve gone with this company. Use at your own risk. I could get into all the details, but I don’t want to give them any more of my energy. Just the worst ever.

I can’t believe some of the negative reviews I’ve read on here. People complaining about missed appointments, poor communication, prejudice on size of project, etc. must be working for the competition because these guys simply ROCK!
Our experience was wonderful. We called Brad and scheduled an appointment for him to come out and give us a quote. We already had in mind exactly the type of fence we wanted.
We have a 210 foot fence with a single 5 foot gate. The quality and workmanship was top notch. First day was tear down and they set the galvanized steel posts in cement. They did an excellent job cleaning up and making sure not to harm the neighbor’s shrubs and plants. Day 2 was spent on putting up the wooden slats and toppers. They said they would start on Wednesday and it would only take 2 days to finish. They met their goal and my wife and I were very satisfied with both their professionalism and their courteousness.
I promise you won’t be disappointed with these guys and as soon as I figure out how to post a picture of our fence I will.

Most larger fence companies like Apple have one or more outside salesman that will come out and discuss your needs and measure for a fence. Once they realize your job is small say under 100 feet you get put on ignore. I called them back to give the go ahead and they never followed up. I almost rather have the salesmen be more up front about what their willing to do.

As to company’s reply to my review, I’m sorry but an appointment is an appointment. You keep your appointments. Trying to blame me for not being able to answer the phone at an attempted «confirmation» call (??) just shows you all the more the character of this company. And, as to the «free services» comment, who charges for a fence estimate? It’s free by nature, bruh.
If you live out west, I recommend Cuernavaca Landscaping. Excellent customer service and creative design!

Strangely, on the day of my negative review I had a contractor show up to fix my gate. I am revising my review to 3 stars. I appreciate them fixing the gate.

Called to get a quote on our backyard fence since our neighbor had contracted with Apple for theirs and the work looked very good. They gave me a date and time for a consultation.
Then they never showed up. Calls to the estimator went unanswered as did my emails to the office staff questioning why the guy never showed up.
So like all the other bad reviews out there, these guys are just going to waste your time with missed appointments. Don’t bother with the frustration.

Came out to measure… Never heard from them again. Too busy to care.

In September 2012, we contracted with Apple and spent $ 3900 on a new privacy fence. $ 500 was an extra charge Apple applied for a steel reinforced double gate. Less than three years later we are unable to use the gAte because we are unable to open it or close. We called and asked for someone to come out and give us an estimate for repair and they never called back. I called and guilted them into coming out they sent a nice man named Israel who offered a solution, but told me up front they don’t mess with work under $ 500. Israel promised an email with an estimate. 1 month later, 2 phone calls and no response. This company has horrible communication, they lie and do not stand behind their work. They applied their logo to our fence right beside the bad gate and everyone we call for estimates will see the sign. Word of mouth is a powerful tool. Don’t use this company. They are rotten

Unfortunately, Apple Fence seems too busy to care. It’s been a week and I still haven’t received an estimate, plus the estimator missed the initial appointment without even a phone call (i had to call and find out what was going on). But when he (Brad) did show up, nary an apology or mention of «sorry about not showing up yesterday or calling you».
Terrible customer service.

It’s been over 3 years and I still love my Apple Fence Company fence. No sagging, no problems, quality fence for my home.

They did a great job and did it fast. Have no complaints about the quality of their work. Their price was reasonable also.

As with all construction projects, a fence installation is only as good as the materials used and the skill of the workers that build it. Apple scores highly in both categories on our recent red cedar fence installation (get the ¾ inch thick pickets as they make for a sturdier fence). Brad responded within 30 minutes of our request for a bid, and the final # was about $ 400 under two other competitors. Work started one day later than scheduled in order for Apple to finish other jobs delayed by rain. Frank and his co-​worker installed 65 + feet of 6ft fence in one day and looks great. The clean up, in the dark, was impeccable and the demeanor of the crew was courteous, patient, and professional. Kudos to Courteny & Mireya in the office for their part in the bid and billing process. I used this company on the recommendation of my brother who had highly recommended them, and Apple did not disappoint.

Brad met me at our new home in NW Hills on a Friday, May 23^rd. He measured and promised an estimate over the weekend if I would get him a survey. I emailed it the same day.
After I sent three followup emails he replied 6 days later that he would be unable to provide me an estimate or to build the 800ft fence because it had rained two day prior?
I think the job was just too big for them and the time frame (3 weeks) was more than they could handle. I wished he had been honest from the start. Fortunately I found another fence company that was able to complete the job on time.
He didn’t get any money from me and all I am really out is my time but Brad has poor communication is just not good at his job. In the end Brad’s company lost out on a $ 7,500 job and I wasted a lot of time.
I’m sure there are plenty of qualified fence companies out there. This just isn’t one of them.

Asked apple for a quote via their web site. They didn’t respond so u called.
Came out a few days later. Looked at my less than 100 linear fence and said it’s too hard. Call someone else. They refused to replace the existing fence.
Really? If it’s not easy peasie, I guess they can’t do it. The funny part. I could easily do myself easily but I can’t seem to find the time. Guess I’ll need to.

Apple built a great fence at a good price. Isreal responded very fast, quoted on the spot. Miguel built it to last and worked his @$$ off and used all high quality materials. They jackhammered my Cedar Park limestone ground 18″ deep, used all cement on the posts (no dirt.) They cleaned up afterwords and the fence looks great. During a storm a few weeks ago a tree limb came off one of our trees & bounced off the fence like a twig.

The estimate:
Both my neighbor and I wanted horizontal fences in our backyard. Apple’s estimator (Israel Wheeler) came out on several occasions and discussed many options with us. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. Their estimate was significantly higher than Viking and Patriot but the owner agreed to come down $ 250 on the total job. This still put them higher but we felt that Israel’s service set them apart.
The scheduling:
We had a Friday start day that got pushed back to Monday. I got an email confirming the start time but come Monday morning, nobody showed. We called and finally spoke to the owner (Brent) who said the job is getting pushed back to Tuesday (we had a hard stop of Wednesday that they were aware of). We explained to the owner that a landscape company was coming in on Wed and he replied ‘what does that have to do with me’. He never once apologized and said he felt threatened when I said I would be sharing my experiences on Angie’s List/​Yelp.
The work:
The crew (Viejo and others) showed up early and worked hard till Tuesday night. Wednesday morning came and there were conflicts with the landscaping company. They weren’t able to work on my gate because of equipment coming in and out. This is what we were trying to warn Brent about when we first called.
Brent called me Friday and wanted an explanation as to what happened. I told him this is exactly why we were upset that the job kept getting pushed back. He felt that the landscape company owed money because he has to pay gas, etc for his crew. The landscape company also removed a post for the gate that Brent was upset about. If the job was done on its original date this wouldn’t have been an issue. Still, we paid a $ 75 trip/​post fee to have them finish.
The guys finally finished up and the fences look good. Their crew really did a great job despite their owner’s attitude.
Summary:
If you’re flexible with time and money isn’t an issue then go for it. Their work really was good even though it was more expensive. If customer service is important to you then LOOK ELSEWHERE. The owner is in the business of customer service yet he lacks any of the necessary skills. ‘What does that have to do with me’ is never an acceptable answer when I’m paying them thousands of dollars for work.

My dogs broke out of my old, decrepit fence one too many times and I decided that the risk of them making it onto 183 was a little to worrisome. I needed to replace my fence, the whole thing instead of patching it up piece by piece as they punched holes in it.
So, I called the top 3 or 4 fence companies I found on Unilocal (austex, etc) and got estimates.
Apple came in the lowest and as far as I could tell they were going to be using better wood than their competitors. Easy choice.
That was back in May 2011 and the fence looks great. Apple also followed up quickly when my gate wasn’t latching properly a few months after they installed it.
I’d highly recommend them. And if you have dogs, it’s definitely worth it to pay a little extra for beams across the bottom (to prevent escapes).

I did my research and this is where I ended up.
I use Unilocal to help guide my informed decisions. I actually weight the responses and reviews here higher than any other spot on the web. This is the first time where I feel the feel the reviews were inaccurate.
My HOA needed two gates replaced on the common area fence of a private park. The park is for residents and is used mainly by kids and dogs, which are both important to keep inside the park. Further, they needed to now include locks. I solicited three bids and Apple came back in the middle. Upon reviewing their proposal, we moved forward.
The issues began when my contact, Brent, never made it out to the job site after the initial quote. He sent a team out to start the work at around 4PM many days after accepting the bid. Day 1, they ended up removing the old gate and installing the new one, but without any latches and in the wrong color. The gates simply swung open and closed, which obviously isn’t ideal for corralling children and dogs. Therefore we lost a couple days of using the park. Correct, they did not return the next day.
Things continued to deteriorate. Communication was made on my end and the responses started to take longer and longer. Ultimately, two new gates with locks ended up taking 6 weeks, start to finish. They spray painted the fence rather than removing and replacing with a powder coated version in the correct color. Upon «completion», they ended up installing the wrong locks. The correct locks ended up costing more, which after much discussion, we ended up splitting the difference.
Fast forward two months, we had an issue with one of the gates not latching. It clearly states in the proposal that they warranty their work for 1-​year. There was no damage to the gates or foundation of the posts. Without even looking at it, Apple denied the claim and said that since it is in a high traffic area, they cannot be responsible. I believe this is unreasonable.
I considerable myself to be very fair. If you are up front, quick on communication, and show me that you are doing everything you can to get the job done, even if the results aren’t 100%, I am most likely going to be pleased. However, with Apple, I felt nothing but neglect from the second I accepted their bid on behalf of the HOA.
Based on the aforementioned reasons, I would not recommend using Apple Fence.

After living in our house for ten years with very minimal large-​scale projects, we knew it was time to do some sprucing up. Our wooden privacy fence was starting to lean and even provided our pup with a «window» through which to see the world via a picket that had fallen off, so I delved into fence company reviews and gathered up a pile of bids (six, to be exact) from fencing companies to replace our tired fence.
I ultimately chose Apple Fence, and I’m so glad I did. Our estimator, Natt, was easy to work with, very patient with and responsive to my MANY questions, and diligent with the follow-​up. He provided me with a clear, written bid — something that I’ve come to feel is important when it comes to home improvement projects, so there is no misunderstanding regarding the scope of work to be done. And I truly felt like he cared about and wanted our business, which is more than I can say for the large majority of the other companies who bid the job.
And when the time came for installation, Apple didn’t disappoint. They built us a beautiful new horizontal, Western red cedar fence with metal posts at a comparatively reasonable price. After it was complete, we found a couple of nitpicky issues with it and they promptly came out and fixed them. We love our new fence and apparently, our neighbors do, too, as we’ve gotten lots of compliments on it. If it is true that good fences make good neighbors, I’m pretty sure we now qualify as great neighbors.
When it comes to contractors, the salient question often seems to be, «Would you use them again?» In this case, I can confidently say, «Yes!»
