History

Established in 2004.

Austin Area Speech and Language services has been a part of the Austin healthcare and business community for over 20 years. Susanne Schlankey DeJernett has owned the practice since 2004. Previous owners include Martha Wristen and Francine Alberts. Francine acquired the business when Mrs. Wristen retired and Susanne acquired it when Francine relocated to the Denver area. It has been the pleasure and privilege of all the AASLS owners to provide caring yet professional services with an unyielding level of integrity and privacy.

Business Owner

Susanne Schlankey DeJernett, owner of Austin Area Speech and Language Services, has lived in Austin intermittently since 1984. She received her Masters degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Texas at Austin in 1996. She has worked in a variety of settings in the field of Speech Pathology including: The Veteran’s Hospital in Temple, Texas; Transitional Learning Community, a post-​acute traumatic brain injury facility in Galveston, TX; The Montréal Fluency Centre and other private practices in Austin. Her specific areas of interest within the field of Speech-​Language Pathology include articulation, oral-​motor deficits, language disorders, traumatic brain injury, phonological awareness, accent reduction and fluency. Susanne is now in the process of completing the certification to become a Dyslexia Practitioner!
