Austin Diagnostic Clinic – Cedar Bend

I am late in writing this review but I wish to share my bad experience at ADC Cedar Bend. I took my son to visit Dr. Mara Tache for his 9 month well visit and this was our first visit to the facility as we recently moved from another state. Though we shared the vaccination history, he was given an extra shot of Hep B which I found out myself after some time. Vaccination record was wrongly updated in the system by Dr. Mara Tache’s nurse Amber. When I called the office and spoke with the nurse, she was completely unapologetic and she did not say sorry even once. She kept defending the act but did not take responsibility and I never got any call back from the office management.
We stopped going to the facility in fear that this time it was just an extra shot, next time it might be something serious.

I had a second visit to the clinic recently due to a severe pain on my lower back. My primary doctor wasn’t available as I required immediate assistance as per the urgency of my situation.
I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Jennette Cross.
Dr. Cross was very professional and attentive to all my explanations, she performed several tests on me and requested some lab work that she considered to help on her diagnostic and also some lab work that I wanted to do for quite some time. I was very happy with her treating me, this time there were no hidden fees after the consultation or anything.
the only thing I would like to point out is that I got the appointment at a certain time (I even arrived 15 minutes earlier in case some paperwork was needed) and the doctor didn’t see me until 1 hour later… I point this out because I was in a lot of pain and this was really bothersome for me to be hanging around waiting for so long.
Other than that I am happy with the service I received from Dr. Cross and the ADC.

My family uses this clinic for a variety of health care needs. Their pediatric staff is fantastic. My son has been seeing Dr. Howard since he was a newborn, and we absolutely love him and his nurse. The nurse has gone to bat for our family numerous times– my son has some health problems, and she has been such an advocate. They even helped us find a great preschool. Absolutely 5 stars.
My husband has visited the clinic for allergy shots and always been very pleased with their service.
My personal experience has been very mixed. I was in a car accident and was feeling weird so I went in so get checked out. I told the doctor that I hadn’t hit my head, but he said that I probably had a brain bleed and was going to die. I was shaken up from the crash and started crying– he stared at me coldly and told me there was nothing he could do for me… I had to go back the next day to see a different doctor for the whiplash injuries that the first guy refused to evaluate. (I did not die from a brain bleed. In case you were worried.)
I went on a separate occasion to see Dr. Chen for kidney pain. He insisted my pain was menstrual cramps. Basically implied that I was a classic hysterical female. Offered to prescribe pain medication. And left.
They aren’t all bad though. There’s several very kind doctors in the walk-​in clinic who are wonderful. But it’s a mixed bag. I recommend avoiding Dr. Chen.

I have been taking my kids her for over 7 years. Many times I have thought about leaving but stuck around because it’s so hard to find a good pediatrician. I do like several of the doctors here and the nurse practitioner Stephanie key is wonderful. However their reception staff and appointment schedulers are the worst! I’m done with this place for good. There have been so many times I have had to take my kids to other doctors because their staff does not care and it’s so frustrating. They are rude And I have not been able to see my primary care physician there for at least 6 months. I hope to find a new office where they actually care about my kids and their well being. I have three kids and so this is just not one experience I am talking about. It’s a constant problem.

We absolutely love our pediatrician Dr Tache. She has been our primary since my LO was a newborn. Her gentle and calm demeanor always helps an at times frantic parent calm. Nevertheless, I’m writing this review about their Easycare. We made a last minute appt at 7pm, saw the MD by 715 and were out of there by 730 with our Rx. We’ll definitely be sad to leave this practice when we move back to Houston.

Doc Dick Worrel is amazing! Even we moved to California, we still want to find a pediatrician like him.!!

Went to this ADC due to high ratings. Wanted to do a good physical prior to retirement. (I live and work overseas and the physicals given by the doctors there were and are — abysmal!
I was scheduled with Dr. Jere as the first with an opening. This was by FAR the best physical I have ever had. From the thoroughness of the blood work to the hands on check of Dr. Jere — I was impressed. Dr. Jere took the time to explain the results and her recommendations. This Doctor inspires confidence and add to that I never felt rushed and my questions were all dealt with professionally (I really appreciated that!!)
When I retire to Austin in 6 months I will make sure that Dr. Jere will be «my» doctor going forward. VERY happy to have discovered ADC and particularly Dr. Jere.

I recently moved to Austin and needed to establish a general practitioner, but I hadn’t done so before I experienced a medical crisis. I contacted ADC because they were such a large practice that I figured they could get me in soon and I was able to schedule an appointment less than a week after I called with Dr. Jere.
The office staff were friendly and my wait was so short that I didn’t even finish my paperwork before the medical assistant called my name. She was very nice as well and gave explanations for the questionnaires related to the symptoms I reported.
Dr. Jere is straightforward and blunt, but I didn’t find her to be rude. She did encourage me to get a flu shot and a few other shots but didn’t insist and said they could wait. Once we started talking about the reason for my visit, Dr. Jere was very compassionate. She did make more recommendations that were pretty blunt — she must have told me I need to quit smoking at least 5 times, and she told me to stop drinking so much coffee — but I never felt like she was judging or belittling me. I know those are not healthy habits so I’m not surprised that a doctor would tell me to quit them.
Dr. Jere addressed my immediate concerns, confirmed that I was comfortable with her prescription choices, explained the benefits and how to deal with the side effects. She also discussed a plan for more long term care. I also have an endocrine disorder and I have an appointment scheduled with a specialist for next month. Dr. Jere told me to send my lab results from that appointment for her to review and see if she’d want to order more related tests. I appreciate that she wants to have a complete understanding of my medical background.
She didn’t spend any more than 15 minutes with me but she was still compassionate and thorough. She offered to write a doctor’s note for me without my having to ask and immediately gave me a tissue when I got emotional while talking about my symptoms. I received a detailed printed summary from my visit, which was reassuring to be able to verify that it was all correct and it was how I wanted to proceed with my care. One issue I discussed with Dr. Jere was that I was having trouble sleeping. A few days after my appointment I got an envelope in the mail that contained a 2 page list titled «Habits to practice for a great night’s sleep», and I thought it was helpful and a nice touch
Long story short — Dr. Jere is very direct but kind and wants to provide the best care possible based on an individual situation.

Very commercial place. The doctors are always pushing for unnecessary vaccinations, tests and prescription medication. Avoid this place like the plague!!!

I was looking for a primary care physician in August, and saw good reviews for one of the doctors here. But when I called to schedule an appointment, I was informed that she didn’t have an opening for new patients until mid-​October, so I ended up making an appointment to see Dr. Jere instead. The office staff was friendly, and the wait was short enough. But Dr. Jere was incredibly rude and unprofessional! I told her that I was there to get a birth control prescription and because I suspect a thyroid problem (I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, but went without insurance for several years so hadn’t been treating it). She asked if I was going to want a pap smear because she wasn’t prepared to do one, and said she would recommend an OB. Understandable, I guess, and I wasn’t actually there with a pap smear in mind. But then she said,“Wow! You need to lose A LOT of weight.” And after discussing it for a bit she asked me if I knew how overweight I was. I said that I did, and she said,“How much?” I was humiliated. Obviously I know that I am obese, and I expected to discuss it, but she was so rude. She offered me a pamphlet on weight loss surgery, though a quick google search informs me that it’s unlikely that I weigh enough to qualify. And then we discussed birth control, and she told me to take the mini pill since I was still breastfeeding. I asked about side effects but she just waved me off. She asked if I wanted her to give me a pregnancy test, which I thought was odd. I was under the impression that taking a pregnancy test before getting on bc was just standard procedure. I ended up not having one.
She ordered a full panel of blood work and wanted to check for diabetes, which she seemed to think was likely given my weight (all of my results, other than my thyroid, came back normal, FYI). Two days later I received a phone call from ADC asking me to schedule an appointment to have an ultrasound of my thyroid done — and I had not even gotten my blood work back yet! I refused to do that before I had my blood work in, especially since Dr. Jere had not even examined my neck during our five minute appointment.
I had another unpleasant surprise after ADC billed my insurance. I noticed that the full panel bloodwork was $ 172, and my office visit with Dr. Jere was $ 146. I even called billing, thinking there was surely some mistake. Other than using her stethoscope, Dr. Jere didn’t even examine me. She was in the same room for less than five minutes. Could it really cost $ 150 just to be rudely insulted — almost the same as full panel blood work? After a frustrating, confusing conversation with the billing department I discovered that the answer was yes. While I did not have to pay out of pocket, that money comes out of my HRA, so I still feel ripped off.
There are many doctors at ADC, and I am sure some of them are great. But as for me, I am finished.

We absolutely love Dr Tache. She listens to us as parents and stays away from the regular «medicine fixes all» approach, which I completely support. So glad we found her, switched older child over to her after a few visits for the little. Definitely recommend!

Wonderful doctors but horrible office staff. If you have the time to talk to the office people more then twice a week about your bill then by all means go to these doctors if not don’t bother about going to ADC. Becouse that is what you will be doing until the bill is straight out.

Finally! It is SO hard to find a good primary care practitioner in this city! After calling a bunch of places that were supposedly «in network» for my United Compass plan, and having them say they were actually NOT in network, I hesitantly made an appointment at the Austin Diagnostic Clinic in Cedar Bend. I scheduled an appointment with the nurse practitioner Wendy who had a student with her Angela.
They were on the ball! They listened to me, understood my concerns, were kind and professional and followed up with me after the appointment. While they made a slight mistake with my bloodwork, I almost don’t care because I had such a great experience with them. I got a same day appointment, waited a reasonable amount of time, and got my labs drawn right then and there and it took like two seconds to give blood. They were thorough and got me started on getting better, way more than I can say for the other clinic I have reviewed on Unilocal,which made me feel like I might as well give up on any chance of ever feeling better.
I would TOTALLY recommend this place and Wendy if you are looking for a competent primary care practitioner who cares about you and listens to you and doesn’t take the whole thing so seriously so that you don’t feel like you don’t have any say in your own health and well-​being. WIN!

Dr. Taché (pediatrics) is beyond amazing. She has been my daughters pediatrician since the day she was born and I wouldn’t trust anyone else with her. She’s beyond knowledgable and always up to date with AAP reccomedations, but her bed side manner is top notch. For a pediatrician for my daughter I don’t want someone to just check her and out and give me a medical jargon monotone schpiel, she seems like a kindergarten teacher. Genuinely loves kids and babies and always happy and bubbly and pleasant to be around.

Fast and painless. After problems with other clinics, it was nice to see one that was run correctly. I liked that they had an X-​ray on site.

As always, the convenience and ability to get an appointment, especially after hours and weekends, goes a long way with ADC EasyCare.
However, today, the doctor wasn’t helpful at all. After seeing my dentist last week for a toothache combined with jaw pain, the pain remained in both sides of my jaw. Thinking I might have some sort of medical issue as opposed to a dental emergency, I made an appointment for EasyCare. As always, it was easy to get a same day visit. Today, I saw Dr. Naidu.
And that’s where the positives end. Dr. Naidu gave me a rushed exam. Heck, she didn’t even shake my hand. After a cursory exam, she became focused on the idea that I have a TMJ issue and kept telling me to take ibuprofen and go see a dentist, even when I asked questions about the diagnosis. For all I know, she may be right and it may be a TMJ issue. But her rushed and dismissive manner doesn’t inspire any confidence at all.
I’ve had very good luck with the mid-​level providers here. But my advice would be to avoid Dr. Naidu. Her bedside manner is better suited as a cashier in an express lane. Bluntly, if she was the only provider I had ever seen at ADC, I would not remain an ADC patient.
Additionally, I’d note that Dr. Naidu really didn’t pay much attention to what I’ve already been doing for self-​care, so she basically recommended the same therapy (OTC ibuprofen) that I had already been doing. Because of her lack of solutions and her dismissive manner, I’ve already made a follow-​up appointment with Dr. Joseph. Of course, I will be out a second copay, which doesn’t help my feelings toward this entire situation. I’d also note that I was initially scheduled for Howard Baade, NP, and my appointment was changed to her. Because of this experience with Dr. Naidu, I am seriously considering finding a new medical home. This is NOT the Austin Diagnostic Clinic that my family and I have grown up with.

DR. was alright, not someone who seemed super interested in me and my care, but just getting done with the day. After a standard annual, my insurance covers 100%, I got a ton of bills due to incorrect coding.
NIGHTMARE.
They have a different office for everything. Still not completely resolved and took MONTHS to get a response and assistance.
avoid this monster practice and find a team that cares about your care and their accuracy

This is a review of Dr. Joseph.
I went to see him because an acquaintance recommended him and I have to say it was a lousy, expensive experience. I should have known better when she said he put her on an anti-​depressant and felt great.
My chief complaints were: I was feeling extremely fatigued, couldn’t sleep, and had a pain in my lower right abdomen. I explained that I thought my ferritin was low, and would like to have it checked. He declined my request, and said he would check it at my annual check-​up. Which according to insurance was six months away. However, I have a PPO and having my ferritin levels checked in the past has never been an issue.
Instead, he wrote me a prescription for an anti-​depressant and Ambien. I didn’t fill the anti-​depressant because I didn’t think I was depressed, but did fill the Ambien. interesting little pill, but I still woke up exhausted, and still had my lower right pain.
So he sends me off to have a CTscan (which was very expensive), and then told me everything looked «fine». Great. But… I didn’t feel fine.
On a fluke, I mentioned to my dermatologist that I thought my ferritin was low. She sent me down the hall to have my blood drawn and low and behold, my ferritin was a 7. So, thanks for the anti-​depressant. That would have sure fixed me right up, Dr. Jospeh. My dermatologist gave me a prescription for Irospan, and I slowly started to feel better.
As for the lower right pain, my pilates teacher said it was my psoas muscle, so I went to a physical therapist who agreed with the pilates instructor. I now know what a psoas muscle is, but I am pretty sure Dr. Joseph is still clueless, even though it is a part of the anatomy. I guess he didn’t study that in medical school. ??
As for the sleeping issues, it was determined via a sleep study (not requested by him, but my new doctor) that I have sleep apnea, and neither an anti-​depressant nor a sleep aid is going to fix that.
Having a bad physician really makes one appreciate a good physician. So thanks, Dr. Joseph for helping me appreciate the good doctors I have now.

Dr. Dick Worrel is amazing. Not only does he care so much but he did not hesitate when we had a new baby.
He showed up at the hospital with only hours of notice and then returned three times more before we left the hospital. We were only there two days!
He insisted on extra bilirubin tests that the St. David’s nurses kind of scoffed at. He wanted to be certain be had a perfect and healthy baby.
He has integrity, you can’t fake that. He continually reminds us of good parenting tips and funny enough we repeat his recommendations to our friends. He’s viral, is the good way.
Dr Worrel is the reason we go to ADC and we are glad he is a part of our family.

I’ve never set foot in this place when I wasn’t feeling like hammered shit. Considering that, I have to say that I’ve only had good experiences here, and I hope to have as few of them as possible in the future.
I don’t really have a primary care doctor, so this is where I come to cover all my basic medical needs. The doctors are always helpful and kind, I’ve never waited longer than 20 minutes, and I always sail out at the end of my appointment with the promise of a bill in the mail. The front desk staff is a little churlish, but if I had to put up with stick versions of me all day long, I’d be a flaming bitch, so I can’t really blame them. I hope you never have to come here, but if you do, it’s not a bad place to be.
