Actually, I wish I could give 2.5 stars because I’m satisfied with the job that was done, but I would not rate my entire experience as «A-​OK». First the good points. John was very prompt coming out to give an estimate for removing a tree, and was able to schedule me the next day when I called to accept the bid. The worker who came out did a great job removing the tree, and treated the stump to help prevent the tree from making a comeback.
Now for the bad points. The worker who came out spoke little to no English, so communication with him was very difficult. He did not provide us with an invoice when he finished the job, and indicated that we could not pay with our American Express card (upon reflection, he just may not have known how to handle a credit card payment). Due to the lack of an invoice and the difficulty with communication, we wrote a check for the amount of the estimate, only to find out later that this did not include the sales tax. (Since I had expected to pay with a credit card, I had to transfer money to cover this check.) After writing a second check for the sales tax amount and mailing it, I took a closer look at the estimate sheet I was given, and it indicates that they DO accept American Express.
If my entire experience with Austin Tree Service had been as good as the actual work, I would use them again in a heartbeat. However the other issues would make me hesitate to do use them again.

From the moment I called Austin Tree Service to request a visit for an estimate to the time the clean-​up crew left the yard, the customer service was of the highest quality. And, the level of customer care that was provided was timely and accurate. I was impressed with the thoroughness of the estimate, which considered not only the cutting of trees, but evaluated the type of tree and the necessary care in the cut. The cutting crew was on time and made sure to tidy the yard after all the work. Again, I cannot speak loud enough on the customer service that was provided. It is refreshing to hire a company that actually values customers and their work.

I love these guys. Used them at two different locations and they were awesome at both. Adam came on Monday and the crew was out on Thursday to cut down a dead tree and trim the trees above my house. They even removed a pile of brush that was piled in the back yard. They cleaned up after themselves and left me the pile of mulch I requested.
They happily cut a few more branches off the trees for me that I requested them to do.

I hired them to trim and raise the canopy for 3 trees. Two in the front and one in the back.
I will state that two of the three trees look good. The third tree looks like it had barely been trimmed. The branches were still over my roof and neighbors yard. My general felling is that they are going to need trimming again in about 6 months.
I called them to tell them I was dissatisfied and they came back to look at it. They offered to send someone back out to trim them again for only $ 100. I wasn’t visibly unhappy so they quickly dropped it to $ 80. I told them thanks but no thanks, so the guy talked to his supervisor and they agreed to fix it for free.
So, today they came back and trimmed the tree. When I came home to look at it, my comment is that it still looks untrimmed and like something I would do instead of something I expect from a professional tree trimmer.
Is hiring them the worst decision I have made? No. They did an okay job. I think my biggest problem is that one of my front yard trees looks so good that the other looks poor in comparison.
Would I hire them again? No. While they came in with a good bid and were professional, they didn’t provide me with the service that I expected and they didn’t really stand behind their work. If they had come back today and made my second tree look close to the first tree I would have given a 4 – 5 star review and just chalked this up to an oops that was fixed.

Price was very competitive and Adam knew exactly what I needed, Excellent job by Jose and his crew, Clean up was exceptional, this is the 2^nd time I have used Austin Tree Service and they only get better, keep up the good work.

While I may have a vast array of random knowledge accumulated over the years from a multitude of sources — National Geographic, Good Houskeeping, Cosmo, that guy that hangs out in the vacant lot — I know next to nothing about tree health.
A silver-​leaf maple in our front yard, stalwart ally to flourishing live oak nearby, was beginning to deteriorate. First, carpenter ants went to town on it, killing some larger limbs. Then rot set in. We had another tree service — that shall not be named — come out, and instead of letting us know, «Hey — Silver Leaf maples are weak trees that shouldn’t be planted here» they gladly took our cash to pointlessly chop off limps.
And now, a year later, the tree was gasping for it’s last breath of life. Austin Tree Service came by, diagnosed the poor thing as «Yeah — totally dying — and has been for a while.» and advised removal.
Out of a few services in town that we shopped around to, they were the only group that had a great track record and also had almost immediate availability at a price cheaper than what we’d been told by other service companies.
One day I came home from work and the tree was gone — which is odd, because at first I didn’t even notice as I dealt with getting my kids out of the car. When my 5-​year-​old started tap-​dancing on the stump, it was clear the job had been done. Like tree elves, they had come and gone while we were at work.
While there is lots to applaud Austin Tree Service for, I did have a few things to bark about (hurr hurr — tree humor).
Firstly, the removal crew left a few big divots in the ground where I assume part of the machinery or trailer braces were. Not a huge deal, but it didn’t do our yard favors.
The larger issue — and this is probably not really the fault of Austin Tree Service — was the contracted stump grinder who came a few days later.
Some background — I ground stumps with my grandfather for three summers. It’s not the most thrilling work, but the biggest pain is the cleanup. You’d be surprised at how much waste a stump produces once it’s ground up.
The waste castoff is the issue here — rather than shoveling it up and removing it, when I arrived home from work I found that the grinder crew had simply ground down the stump and left the castoff — a churned mix of heavy mud and chips — scattered where they fell or in half-​hearted piles. I think we assumed — as a lot of people did when I ground stumps — that the waste would be removed when the job was done. Not so. Perhaps we had to ask them to do this? In any case, they at least filled the trench left by the grinder… though it took me two hours of shoveling and bagging to move the mud and chips which the rain had made all the heavier.
Overall, ATS did great work — I just wish their contractors were clear with how the stump grinding was handled.

THEY ALWAYS ANSWER THEIR PHONE! I start with this because it is representative of the level of service they provide. From the first phone call to the on site assessment to the beautiful art work on my 85 year old oak trees, they were top notch. There is something to say about a family owned business that takes pride in servicing their customers and quality of work. I would recommend these guys to anyone.

From start to finish these guys are really extraordinary. Adam is so personable and knowledgeable. Thank you Adam! The crew was right on time if not early. They looked and operated like the professionals they are. I have done my own trees and yard all my life but this was a job I let get out of hand. What would have taken me 2 days took them two hours. :~) The price was outstanding. Clean up included blowing and also chipping/​mulching the branches and limbs. I have used Austin Tree Service twice for trimming and grooming my trees. They are very professional, on time and reasonably priced. The gentleman who did the estimate arrived on time and the crews did a good job including hauling off the limbs and brush. With my first trimming there were a few limbs that were not cut as I had hoped and they were able and willing to come and do the additional work with no hassle and no additional charge. I highly recommend them

The guy that came out to give the quote was great. However, work crew was another story:
— they dragged huge fell limbs through a large planting bed in our front yard damaging a lot of plants and packing down the bed. at one point they were actually laying limbs down on top of our plants. it’s going to take a day or two and some new plants to repair the damage.
— they damaged our gutters while trimming a tree above our house
— they damaged our fence

My mom had her trees done by Austin Tree Services so I’m writing this on her behalf. He did a great job and she said she would recommend him to others. I have to admit her trees look great!

The guys at Austin Tree Service did a great job on trimming all the trees at our house!!! We will definitely use them again.

Have used four times over the last ten years. They are prompt, thorough reasonably priced, every thing you would want.

I am beyond happy with this company.
I called last week to get an estimate based on Unilocal reviews and a friend’s suggestion. I talked to Adam, who scheduled an estimate for the next day. Russell arrived on time, looked at the work that needed to be done, explained some things, answered my many questions, and gave me prices for tree planting in the spring. Then, of course, he presented the estimate (including a Unilocal discount — just mention it when getting the estimate). The price was about what I expected. Later that day, someone from their office called to schedule the appointment.
Appointment day! I was the first job of the day. They showed up, confirmed the work to be done (I also had a plan B which I decided not to do), and got started. In less than an hour, said work was completed, debris was loaded in their truck, and my yard was raked and cleaned up.
Ok — here’s where the great customer service comes in. Within minutes of their departure, I noticed a wound pretty high up in the tree that had not been sealed, so I called the office to see if they could come back later to fix it. After I hung up, I noticed a few branches that were closer to the house than I would have preferred. Later that day, they knock on my door and ask if there’s anything else that needs to be touched up. I was about to point out the wound, but it had already been sealed. Cool. So I point out the questionable branches. He agrees that they’re too close, takes them down and cleans up the yard again. Quick and painless.
I highly recommend their services. With all the frustration I had with another company with a similar name, I’m ecstatic this was so easy, fast, friendly, professional, and reasonably priced. :) :) :) :) :).

It’s always a lottery picking contractors but I could not fault the work that these guys did. They came to the house to discuss the work. They were very friendly and knowledgable. The price was expensive to me, but I’m told it was competitive — it just costs a lot to get trees done I guess. The property is rented out by me and so I wasn’t onsite when the job was done. I got to the house after a few weeks and I was immensely impressed with the work. Areas where branches were sawn-​off had been treated to avoid infection, etc… There was no mess whatsoever on the ground, nor were there leaves and junk in the pool, which is next to one of the trees I had done.
I dinged them a star because I had asked for updates via telephone when the job was done, but those didn’t come through. I had no idea when they had finished, had left, or anything. It took a couple of days of calls to get the communication sorted out — disappointing, otherwise I would have given a rare (for me) five stars — their work is that good.

I’ve used Austin Tree Service three or four times. Adam is usually the person who comes out to my home to quote the job. Adam is a kind, friendly guy.
I find that his prices are good. Although if you do not immediately accept the quote, he will discount it another 5 or 10 percent. I wish that he’d just quote me the going price to begin with.
His crews always do a very good job. Sometimes it is difficult conversing with them because they speak limited English. But, they do a good job and clean up well. I had issues with one of their jobs and, after a little bit of struggle, Adam made sure the crew came back and took care of the issue.
I have given Adam quite a bit of business over the past couple years through referrals, but that does not seem to get me any better quotes! Although, truth be told, I don’t think many of the customer’s that I have referred to him told him that I was actually making the referral.
All-​in-​all, Austin Tree Service is a good service. They always send a thank-​you card as well as card at Christmas. They have been in business for a while and obviously intend on building a customer base. I just wish they’d do away with the quote and discount thing and give a good quote up front … especially to repeat customers.
