Not a fan of the service but see the value for someone who doesn’t want to go through the hassle of selling themselves. The people were friendly and the estimate was reasonable quick but less than half the price I listed the vehicle for. If you want to sell your car without dealing with the general public and are willing to deal with a low ball offer this is a good place, otherwise consider selling yourself.

Horrible customer service! They were trying to buy my car from me, had gotten a way higher offer and had told them as well. The lady called me all rudely and sounded ghetto. Thank goodness I didn’t sell it to them! Shows how this company is!

Very dissatisfied. They called me and set up an appointment time. I showed up promptly. There was one person doing everything. needless to say i had to wait about 15 minutes. During my wait the employee got into two arguments on the phone… very unprofessional. And as i expected it was a scam. Their offer was no less than 30% below K.B.B. Unless you’re desperate it’s a total waste of time.

Don’t waste your time total bait and switch. I was looking through the reviews and noticed that most of the 5 star review such as «spencer c.» are actual employees of the company.
When I went by to get my car «inspected» and I asked Chris (guy who inspected my car) who ran the place and he mentioned spencer coats was the call center manager!
These guys are total jokes and fakes!

If these guys contact you through craigslist wanting to buy your car, doesn’t even waste your time on them. They will give you 30% of what your asking for the car. Huge waste of time, mistakes were made.

Took my 2004 Nissan Xterra into AutoHero’s S Congress Ave location after being contacted by a representative of the company who found my Craigslist listing.
I had my car listed for awhile and was tired of getting calls all day every day with low ball offers so decided to give them a shot. From beginning to end it was a simple painless process, they schedule an appointment, I showed up and was greeted with a cup of coffee, they walked around the car and took a few pictures, took it for a quick test drive and then they made an offer on my car.
All said and done took me less than 30 minutes and I walked out with money deposited into my account. Given it was for a bit less than I had been asking but when I factored in my time and the hassle I was happy — no more calls in the middle of the night with someone «interested» in my car for half of what I was asking!
I chose to write this review because I went in very skeptical — I had previously contacted places like Cash for Cars who offered me $ 700 bucks for a car worth several thousand dollars!

This was the biggest waste of time. They called and they left voicemails for over a week telling me that they had a customer interested in my car. I show up there is no customer ever. No one was interested in my car but besides for that there’s a guy who works there named Shay who looked higher than a kite! He look like you was on some sort of drug and barely able to communicate. My car was listed on Craigslist for $ 8,900 when I get there and got to the process they offered me $ 4,500. They called me and wasted my time. I would not recommend anyone who’s trying to sell a car go here they will low ball offer and try to basically steal your car from you.

These guys are classic bait and switch. I was looking at pretty new car (18 months old). As expected, the dealer offer was fairly low. low enough that I just decided to hold on to it until the end of the lease term.
When I was looking up the value online, I saw an ad for AutoHero. Never heard of them, and I have a habit of buying and selling lots of cars, so I decided to check it out. Their web form showed a price very close to what I thought trade in value should be, and much higher than the dealer offered. Somewhat against my better judgment, I scheduled a time to go in and have them look at the car.
After about 45 minutes, most of which seemed to consist of the guys BS’ing with each other and a perfunctory drive around the block, they came back with an offer $ 4500 or ~20% below the price quoted on their website. When I told him what the website said, he said «I wish they would stop putting such high numbers up there.»
It’s pretty bad when your own employees know that HQ is running a bait and switch and have to apologize for it.
Bottom line — don’t waste your time.

This place is a joke. They look at your car then call dealers to ask them if they want it and take a percentage for vetting the car. I was just offer $ 5800 for a a 2011 Dodge Ram. I literally laughed at the guy and left. save your time and just go get screwed by a dealer and cut out the middle man.

Don’t waste your time with this rip off. I was contacted by a representative of theirs for my ad on auto trader. I spent 30 min there having my car assessed and test driven.
Blue book for my car was between $ 18 500-​$ 21 000. They offered me $ 8000. Completely insulting. Worst waste of my time ever. It’s worse than a shady used car dealer.

My dad found Auto Hero and suggested I go there first before trying CarMax or Craigslist, and I am glad I did. The online quote price I got was higher than what I ended up getting for my car once they saw it in person, but that is to be expected in my opinion. That said, they met me at a price I was happy with without resistance or haggling. Sergio and Luke and everyone else I met there were friendly and helpful and made the process quick and easy. They were very transparent in their process and had even sold my car to a dealer before I left, for $ 500 over what they paid for it, so I never got the feeling they were trying to take advantage of me. I highly recommend checking them out!

Don’t go anywhere else. These guys are the best! I had helped my daughter buy a new car and the dealer only wanted to give her $ 4000 for her trade. I said no and planned on just craigslisting it. Instead, my wife went on the internet and shopped prices from Carmax and others including Auto Hero. Their web site was the easiest to navigate and get an offer. It was higher than anyone else. We made an appointment over the internet and received a phone call verification and reminder the day before. When we arrived, Sergio examined the car and was a nice guy and very professional. He made us an offer that was $ 2500 higher than the dealer. Luke, the Pricing Manager came out to check on us and make sure we were happy. It couldn’t have been easier or quicker. No glitches, no concerns about whether they were on the up and up, and we left with a check and a smile on our faces!

I saw the ad on FB, and gave it a try.
The online interface is very good and gives you a value of your vehicle immediately.
Obviously that is a higher value than what you are hoping for, but it is based upon a car which in a perfect world is existing in a perfect condition.
After you setup the appointment you get a reminder phone call and a text message.
When you go there the whole process of estimation takes around 30 – 45 minutes.
After you agree to the offer you sign the documents and the title… but wait where is the check ???
I was told it will come in fedex in a couple of days.
This was the step that makes a customer a little uneasy.
Nevertheless the check came in after a few days and I picked it up.
I was very satisfied with the estimated value of my vehicle.
The estimator here in San Antonio Willie is very professional and did a good job.
I recommend this place to sell your vehicle.

Waste of time low balling company. I got a call from Tiffany saying they had a «potential buyer» waiting to look at my BMW 335i E:90 series. I said okay I’ll meet you at… What’s your address? Tiffany then gave me the address which was up the street from where I work downtown Austin, Tx. I show up and they have people taking pictures of cars asking question’s on service dates… Wooho ho hold on… Where’s my potential buyer at… Well I he was standing within 5 feet from me holding his little iPad awaiting to interrogate me and then take pictures of my pride and joy!
The car is in perfect condition I have it in CL for 14k they come with a offer of 10.4k! Get real. Don’t waster your time unless you are on your death bed wanting to go out like a champ with a quick check from these people.

I didn’t sell/​let them steal my car. Nice enough guys and this place probably serves the right type of customer, someone who needs cash quick. It’s not about giving you what your car is worth, but getting you cash quick. They claim that they only make $ 500 per car because they sell to dealers directly and not the public, but those numbers don’t add up. The margins have to be closer to $ 2,000. Anyway, the whole used car market can tend to be shady and there doesn’t seem to be any differentiation at Auto Hero.

Don’t waste your time. They will offer you low end trade-​in value. They will do a quick run around the car and do a 5 minute post to a dealer bidding website. For me in my situation consignment will be the best way to go. I am in no hurry to sell. When I drove up the guy said «so you trying to dump a car?» I said nope, no hurry at all.

Waste of time! This is what was written to me in an email
«If you have a clean title and the cars is in good condition i would hope to hit your number.»
Makes it sound like hey i saw how much your asking and as long as it has a clean title I can probably come close or hit the number! Wrong! Offered the lowest of trade in value on kbb. I understand you cant promise a number but novella was over $ 4000 under my asking price. She sucks and wasted my time. I even gave the vin before showing up so I wouldnt waste her time! Poor customer service and just rude.

I am in the process of trying to buy a house and therefore needed to find ways to reduce my debt. Hence, getting rid of my 2013 car.
I was recently contacted by these guys while trying to sell a car on craigslist. They told me who they are, and what they do and asked if I was interested in scheduling an appointment for an appraisal. I thought sure why not.
Who: Auto Hero is a company that recently launched in Texas. They wholesale cars that they buy from the public, to sell to car dealerships (slightly different from Carmax who buy cars, and then either auction to dealers or resell to the public depending on the cars condition).
The process: The guy that did my appraisal was very laid back and straightforward. He appraised the car in about 10 minutes. And came back with an offer $ 500 more than Carmax.
Bottom Line: I didn’t end up selling the car to them because I was in the hole by $ 2000. My car was near pristine so I know the offer was low even compared to Wholesale standards (I used to work in the car industry). Despite not selling my car to them, they did beat Carmax, and hence I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them as an option to get an offer on a car.
Bonus: I ended up driving my car to Cypress and got it appraised by a competitor where I was offered $ 1500 more. I wouldn’t recommend doing this unless you are mentally prepared to be disappointed like I was. it just worked out because the company that bought my car knew they could flip it easily because of the condition it was in.

Listed my car on Craigslist and they gave me a call. At first I was skeptical, had already gotten calls from a few scam listing services — so verified over the phone they’d actually make a cash offer.
Was trying to sell on Craigslist, but got tired of wasting hours on people flaking so I made the dealer rounds on a Saturday, including Autohero. Autohero ended up offering me $ 650 over Henna Chevrolet (btw Henna has a «$ 500 over Carmax deal»), and $ 1,150 over Carmax and the other couple of dealers I went to. They did come in $ 850 below my «hopeful» Craigslist starting price, but I wasn’t expecting to get there anyway. If I had held out for a private party sale I may have been able to get $ 250 – 500 more than Autohero paid — but time is also valuable.
A private party will always pay more than a wholesaler/​dealer, but a wholesaler/​dealer has overhead, carrying costs, provides a service, and needs to get compensated for all of that. If you’re going to sell a car to a non-​private party, of the dealers I talked to these guys offered by far the best price. They were also super easy to work with. The guy I worked with, Chris, would instantly respond to text messages and worked around my schedule. I opted for a wire vs. check as I was on the way to the airport after selling my car and the cash showed up in my bank account a couple of days later as promised.
Part of selling a car is you’ll get a wide variance in offers. No reason to be upset if one party offers you less than another. But at least in my experience, it’s worth giving these guys a shot.
