I opened an account here nine years ago. During the majority of that time, they have provided fair-mediocre-good service. I pride myself on being a good partner; always carried a significant surplus balance, no bounced checks, minimal demands. Recently, a major change occurred that everyone should know about that is planning to open an account(or continue their current account). Some time ago, I opted to go «paperless», as a nod to green living. Not made clear in that change, the bank is able to make drastic changes to their terms and only has to bury any notification in the bank statements(that one no longer receives). I checked balances monthly and looked for electronic messages, but those are not used to communicate changes. So, starting last Fall, the bank started changing a substantial Monthly Service Charge. Once discovered, I went to speak to branch management where I opened and maintained my account. I was very apologetically told, «You should have downloaded and carefully read each statement.» There was no offer to refund past service charges. I was further assured that future changes to terms could happen at any time, with no other communication. After not even being told, «I’m sorry», I decided that was the final straw and closed my long-standing account.
