Bob and Mike’s Chicken

When I wrote my 2011 review, I thought they had closed. I was wrong! They only relocated to Cedar Park. While I was disappointed by only being offered chicken strips, it doesn’t mean that the the chicken didn’t taste good. I’ll stick to Randall’s fried chicken for my needs to be met :)

We enjoy Bob And Mikes about once a month! The hubs digs the Buffalo Tenders and I tend to go with the Grilled. The Grilled sandwich is the best! The fries are some of the best in town! and The Green Tea is probably what I crave that gets me back in there!
I really like that their chicken is cooked in peanut oil & contains «No MSG, No Trans-​Fats, No Artificial Preservatives, No Pre-​Frozen Chicken»
Our only suggestion is that when we get the to go boxes — if you have Buffalo Tenders — it makes the bottom of the box soggy and almost falls apart. Im hoping they take our suggestion and upgrade the to go containers!

My son and I had tenders, fries, corn cake and the chocolate chip brownie. Loved every bite. I am a french fry fiend, and these were excellent. The green tea with lime is a wonderful addition to the meal. My wife had the grilled chicken flat bread sandwich. She sets a high bar but loved this one.
The service was a bit slow and they seemed a bit understaffed for a Friday night, but everyone was helpful and friendly.
We will eat here again.

After shopping for some shoes at DSW and then clothes at Marshalls I was so hungry so decided to stop and give it a try. I am so happy I did.
Upon waling in, Bob, one of the owners greeted me and asked if I had been there before and offered several suggestions from the menu. I decided to give the Buffalo Chicken Salad a taste, and it was delicious. Since moving to Texas from New York (Buffalo to be exact) I haven’t been able to find anything that is even close to that authentic taste. That was until I came here.
If you stop here be sure to try thei green tea with lime. It is the best.

Was in the mood for something new today and went there on a whim, having never heard of them or Unilocaled them before.
I tried all 3 varieties of chicken tenders and had the fresh menu run through from the staff.
I liked the plain fried tender the best, and it went great with the ranch and other sauce they provided. I liked the grilled tender the next and buffalo last. The buffalo was good, I’m just not a fan of buffalo sauce.
I also had their Texas toast which was great and the Corn cake which I really liked. I would go back again for sure.
It was pretty full and it was an interesting observation to see only 1 or 2 women in there, but there are a lot of items my wife would like on their menu, I wouldn’t write them off as a guys only type of place.
My only recommendation is if you are going to specialize in one main thing like chicken tenders, you may want to add a few more flavors of them like Wing Stop or Pluckers does — maybe a teriyaki or parmesan or garlic versions.

I love Bob and Mike’s! I always get their buffalo chicken strips and half onion rings and half french fries. All of the food is very fresh and very tasty. I am in love with their green tea. It is awesome! The staff is always very friendly and the service is always really quick. It’s a great place for a quick, cheap and tasty lunch.

Hey Bob, hey Mike I stopped by your chicken restaurant today to try it out. As I entered I was impressed with the friendlessness and the cleanness of your place and the colorful umbrellas on your outside tables. Since it was my first time the menu was explained and I placed my order. Since it was late in the afternoon I was able to order quickly and my order came out very quickly.
I was really excited to try the chicken since it was cooked in peanut oil and in your own words your food contains «No MSG, No Trans-​Fats, No Artificial Preservatives, No Pre-​Frozen Chicken» and when food is cooked in peanut oil it lends to a pleasant nutty flavor.
I ordered the Combo #2 tender sandwich meal (fried) with fries and cole slaw. Bob and Mike please don’t change your fires just remember I tend not to like anybody’s fries and you fell into that battered fry style I do not like. Most people will like them so do not take the fact that I only ate 2 of the fries before I stopped and I had to cover them with ketchup to eat them as a sign that your fries are not good. It’s just me. Now for the slaw, I liked the slaw OK, there was some kind of spice or little dots of something in your slaw that made it taste different, I didn’t care much for it but I could eat the slaw fine. I like the slaw at KFC better but again most will like yours better. Let’s talk about the tenders, they were moist and I liked them and the mayo derived sauce you added to the sandwich. I also enjoyed your tea.
So thank you Bob and Mike for starting this restaurant and all the hard work you guys do to run a restaurant in a well managed style.

Would I go back? Not by myself but if I was with someone that wanted to go yes I would.
For those that have peanut allergies know what you are eating. I am allergic to peanuts but not enough to kill me, in my case my nose will start running and keeps running for about 20 minutes, and I do have a hard time trying to catch it while it is running.

I wasn’t expecting a lot from this place. Just chicken strips? Really? Is it organic or free range or hormone free? No, I don’t believe so. But it is no MSG, no trans-​fat, no artificial preservatives, and fresh! Oh, did I forget to mention it is juicy and flavorful?
The chicken exceeded my expectations. You can get grilled, fried, or both. Oftentimes, grilled chicken tenders seem to be an afterthought and take a backseat to their fried counterparts. Not here. Tender and tasty, perfectly seasoned. The menu is very focused, much like Mighty Fine. There are a handful of ways you can get it (basket, sandwich, salad, ala carte), and a handful of sides. I don’t care what the other guys say, Bob and Mike are really the ones that do chicken right. All of their food is made fresh with quality ingredients. For this chicken, I will be crossing the road again.

Love Bob and Mike’s! Delicious, hot and affordable. The chicken tenders are juicy and flavorful. The Texas toast is buttery and just right. The battered fries are THE BEST and their dipping sauces are creamy and go perfectly with the crispy chicken. Just wish they had a kids eat free night! P. S. Make sure to get the green tea. Best I’ve ever had.

I’m taking the Rob Balon approach from here on out (no bad reviews, just some constructive criticism). I am completely guilty of doing the things I am about to complain about, so this is a bit hypocritical. I will, however, change my ways.
For the most part, people who own and operate restaurants work their tails off and take large financial risks; it seems pretty crappy for us to sit here taking pot shots at them when they no doubt are at least *trying* to produce a great product.
Why do I say this now? Because there are a few reviews for this restaurant where people give a couple of stars and call it a «man trough» (or similar).
Em, just because you aren’t the target demographic for a restaurant, why does that merit giving a snotty review and low star count? Do you just enjoy damaging other people’s lives to try to look cool, cute, or funny?
If you go into Chuck E Cheese’s and expect Conan’s-quality pizza, you will be sorely disappointed. If you go into Conan’s with 20 small kids, you will be pulling your hair out. They have different target demographics but both are quite good at what they are trying to do.
Also, food that is not to your taste does not mean that the food is bad. If you thought the food was poor in quality or you received poor service, fine, fire away.
Instead of blithely whipping out the two stars and literally helping to ruin this person’s business so that you can feel good about yourself, why don’t you just say nothing? Or, just stick to the objective facts.
Or, rummage around for some courage, mosey over to the owner and tell him what you think could be better. He’ll probably sincerely thank you for the information.
This place was just fine and delivered what it promised (chicken) and probably what the owner feels they are able to do best (chicken tenders in a few ways).
Salad a little wimpy? I wouldn’t know: I didn’t go into the chicken restaurant for a salad.
Can they up their game a little? Sure, some menu tweaking is probably not a bad thing. I’ve had two meals there and though it isn’t on the top of my favorite restaurants list, I’ll go back in for lunch another day.

It’s a guy trough.
I was up North on business and went into DSW on the way home. I was seriously craving Furr’s fried chicken, but wanted something fast.
I had never been in Bob and Mike’s before so I decided to take a chance on it. The layout is similar to just about every other new fast food place in this city over the last couple years (5 guys, Mighty Fine, etc). You go to the counter, order, get a number and they will call when its ready.
I got the combo with the tenders, fries, cole slaw and soda.
One positive thing I will say is that it was HOT when it came out. As in, out of the fryer within about 30 seconds… really too hot to immediately eat.
The dipping sauce it came with tasted like a mayo, garlic, black pepper, and some vinegary touch… not bad.
The BBQ sauce on the tables tasted a heck of a lot like Pok-​e-​jos… and I like theirs so that was fine.
The fries were battered. I wish that was noted somewhere on the menu. I don’t like battered fries. In my opinion, they tend to taste like greasy crap when they cool. Fortunately, they were piping and steaming hot and that made them edible.
The chicken was just okay. It was hot, but the breading was falling off. The 3 tenders I got were ample, but truthfully, I thought they were a little too big. I would have preferred them to be sliced in half to be thinner so they would be easier to eat and perhaps also hold their breading better. The flavor of the breading was good, but it was just okay, not mouth drooling exceptional.
So, coupled with the 3 large tvs all turned to ESPN, this place struck me as a guy feedbag. You go in with the guys at lunch, get a salad to say you’ve eaten greens, but have it on the side while chowing down chicken tenders and fries.
I wasn’t impressed by the cole slaw and left it on the plate.
As I was leaving, I really regretted not just going down to Furr’s and honestly, for about 5 seconds, wondered if I could go down there and eat what I really wanted (good tasty fried chicken) without turning into a bloated, overly carbed mess. I opted not to do it and just go home to work, but I won’t be heading back soon.
It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. I’d give it 2 and a half meh stars.

I went here for lunch on Saturday, nervously anticipating news from the vet as to what exactly was wrong with my kitty.
I actually almost went to Maki Sushi next door, and I wish I had instead.
I ordered a 3-​piece chicken tender meal, which came with a drink, a slice of toasted bread, a few french fries, and a dollop of cole slaw. I knew it wouldn’t be worth the $ 7.50 it cost. I had hoped the tenders might be huge. I figured they were since you only get three of them. I mean, for that price you can get at least four tenders at your typical Chili’s, TGI Friday’s, etc. But no, these tenders were average size. The breading fell off very easily. The chicken was fairly good, but Chick-​Fil-​A is definitely better. Again, you can get more tenders for your money there… four, plus superior tasting fries and a drink for $ 6.89, and you don’t have to get out of the damn car in the cold if you don’t want to. I dare you to beat that, Bob & Mike.
The toast was meh, as were the french fries. The dipping sauce was the best tasting thing, but I can’t even identify it for you.
I’ll try Bush’s Chicken next.

My cousin and I decided to stop by Bob and Mike’s Chicken one afternoon to give it a try. Once you walk into the restaurant, it’s very open.
It took me a long time to study the menu and figure out what to get. My cousin and I decided to get the combo meal, which came with 3 tenders, toast, fries, and cole slaw.
We sat around and watched on the big screens, while the food was being cooked. After receiving the food, the tenders were definitely FRESH! It was really good! It would’ve been nice to receive a larger portion of cole slaw, but the Texas toast actually filled me up. I wasn’t sure what sauce came with the combo, but it was really good!
The cashier/​waiters were really friendly and the food was good.

This is going to be easy:
1. Fried Chicken Tenders: Very good.
2. Seasoned French Fries: Very, very good!
3. Battered Onion Rings: Oh my!
4. Cole Slaw: Perfect for me.
5. Iced Green Tea with Lime: Yummmm.
6. Gourmet Ghirardelli Brownie: Holy Shit.
7. Personal Attention from Bob: Unexpected & sincere.
You can carb or low-​carb. I didn’t try the corn cake or milkshake. ESPN everywhere. Coke Zero at the fountain. Ask them to heat up your brownie. A tad claustro for me inside; more fun reveling outside. This place just made my go-​to list.

The fried chicken here is excellent! Juicy chicken, crispy breading, and 99 cents a piece if you order ala carte. Perfect if you want a cheap lunch that isn’t enormous. I’ve only been here twice now but I know I’ll be a regular.
So, since most people want more to their meal than just meat, the sides: The «corn cake» was pretty good, if a little sweeter than a true southern cornbread. The coleslaw was… not my thing. There’s some kind of seasoning under the celery salt that I didn’t really care for. The fries are only ok, but I have not tried to onion rings yet.
Other bonuses: The BBQ sauce is sweet, smoky, and thick, more like the sauce I grew up with in Georgia. (Don’t get me wrong, I love the Texas-​style sauce too.) And every basket of food comes with a thick slice of garlicky buttered bread.

My quest to find the ultimate salad with grilled chicken on top led me here — to Bob and Mike’s Chicken.
Who is it? Bob and Mike.
What is it? Chicken.
Where is it? Some random shopping center up North.
Anyways, here’s the thing… the salad was super fresh and they had a couple of different kinds of bell peppers on it. Basically, simple but fresh. The chicken was real chicken that was warm and juicy and not that ground up chicken bit stuff some other places serve.
They were somewhat limited on their dressing choices, but all the employees were friendly and knowledgeable and that made up for the lack of selection.
Two hilarious things:
1. My dining companion got the ties on the bottom of her shirt stuck on the chair which made her drag the chair away from the table in a hilarious manner. Not helped, I am sure, by my loud guffaws and pointing.
2. The Texas Toast was not Texas Toast. I mean, it was toast and we were eating it in Texas but it was not Texas Toast.

I will definitely be back.
Food– Yeah, it is only chicken. The fries are awesome. The corn bread is so so. The onion rings are good. I got two fried, one grilled and my bf got the sandwich. I liked the fried and the grilled were not bad at all for a healthier alternative. There is nothing crazy special about the chicken… it’s just done well and fresh. Good tasty slightly crispy batter with tender juicy meat on the inside. I think what most people are failing to compare with other chicken tender places is that B&M Chicken clearly advertise that they do not use msg, trans fat, artificial preservatives and never frozen chicken. I really appreciate that especially since I recently figured out I have adverse reactions to MSG in food and that almost every place uses MSG… including Chik Fil A.
Price– Combos are $ 7.50 and they include an entrée, drink, two sides, and toast. It doesn’t have to be as pricey as a combo if you want it to be comparable to fast food prices. Two sandwiches ($ 3.99 ea) and a side of fries is plenty for two people.
Atmosphere– Not much to say here. A few tvs tuned into sporting events and some communal seating.
I wish I had gotten a free brownie =(Next time I’m going to buy one.

My co-​workers and I stopped here last week excited by the possibility of a new option to the regular lunch rotation. I had the fried chicken tenders meal with fries, coleslaw, and Texas toast. While the fried chicken tasted fresh with a nice crisp batter, they could have used some spice or seasoning. They came with some mayo-​based dipping sauce, but even with that, the meat tasted bland.
The fries and cole slaw were decent, but the toast was plain and needed buttering. We all got free brownies — which was a bonus — but again, there was just something slightly off. It was was rich in chocolate, but we all felt like they were a little dry.
Overall, the food was average, but I would go back — which is why I gave it 3 stars. I really hope they can work out the kinks since this place has potential.

We stopped in here after a great massage because we were up for an «adventure!». After looking at the menu, we wavered a little b/​c it seemed kind of skimpy, but i think thats the point. Anyone whose been to Cane’s chicken in Baton Rouge knows that specializing isnt a bad thing.
In this case, it was. I had the chicken tenders (one grilled, two fried) and my manfriend had the salad. The chicken tenders were ok… nothing special. The sauce was pretty tasty and the fries decent but for almost $ 8, Dairy Queen is a better value. I have to compliment their coleslaw… i dont even like coleslaw and it liked theirs.
My manfriend had a salad and it was so tiny I almost thought it was a joke. It was comprised of Iceberg, two tomatoe wedges and three 4 inch tenders. If we’re continuing in the «compare to fast food», then Wendy’s salad is actually bigger than this. The tiny one. On the dollar menu. He also had «corn cake» which turned out to be a plastic container full of cornbread crumbles which in fact, were dry and uninspiring.
We met bob and mike… and I hate to do this to them… but when I saw people walking in the door I wanted to stop them and tell them not to come. Thats when I knew it was a two-​star review.

We stopped in at this new restaurant on Saturday (one day after officially opening) to give it a try.
It’s set up a lot like Mighty Fine… except it’s just chicken. Chicken sandwich, tenders, or salad… fried or grilled.
A fast food type place that has fresh grilled chicken is exactly what I’ve been looking for. It seems like I’m always looking for somewhere that’s fast, cheap and healthy… and no such place exists up north… until now.
They have excellent sides and a really nice sauce they use on the chicken sandwich’s.
When we were there the owner (mike) was walking around, asking how everyone liked their meal, and handing out brownies… it was nice to have a personal touch to a fast food type dining experience.
I really hope Bob and Mike’s Chicken makes it… they are definitely a place I could see myself going to on a semi-​regular basis.
