I ate Boomerangs for a couple of years from their(closed now?) Guadalupe location. Then, as luck would have it, I moved to Sydney for the past 3 years and are lots of Pies. They’re a food group of their own! Sad to see the Guadalupe location closed but happy to see I can buy them online and at Whole Foods. Try the Chicken Curry Pie.

Bought the Chicken & Mushroom and Steak and Potato Frozen Pies from Whole Foods. Looked so good on the package. Unfortunately as we all know, the food is never as good as the professional photo on the box. Both pie’s should actually be re-named; «Crust and Gravy with Beef Bits» and«Pastry Cup with Gravy, Gravy and Gravy. Come on Aussie men. Your frozen pies leave a lot to be desired. Good news though, you can only improve from down under. Perhaps your store pie’s are more filling, if you know what I mean. On a happier note, I showed my work staff your very nice packaging with picture, my pie and then we all had a good laugh. They then thanked me, for the warning.

Ordered this meal from Über Eats. Was a little skeptical at first, but after the first bite I knew I had made a great decision! Awesome pie! Really good with the chipotle dipping sauce. Mashed potatoes were okay too, simply«okay» because I prefer a lighter gravy than what they used. Definitely worth a try!

i kinda messed up my sequence of this review, so I’ll say i tried the Guinness steak and potato 4 days ago, then I tried the southwest chicken today. oh man, I liked it even more than the steak. as usual, the filling was very dense, so tasty and moist, and this one was plenty spicy. right up my alley. I enjoyed it immensely and I can’t wait to try the veggie varieties next. these handheld pies are really fun to eat :)

I wasn’t too sure what to expect from this place. Other than the occasional chicken pot pie I had never really eaten any kind of meat pie before. But I was pleasantly surprised! I over heard the customer in front of me asking what they recommend, and the guy manning the truck said the Guineas steak and potato. I decided to try that one also and I was not disappointed! The pie had a nice flaky crust and the meat and potato filling was amazing! They really fill the pie up, so the crust to filling ratio is perfect.(I hate when there is more pie crust than filling.) The pies were $ 7 each, and the one I had was very filling. They also had some chicken filled ones and some veggie pies for the vegetarians out there. I can’t wait to try them all!

Bought a $ 40 groupon for $ 24 to try this place. Ended up getting one of each of the lunch pies, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Overall the food is just salty. The mashed potatoes were fine, but the gravy was a waste of time. It was so salty and tasted almost burnt. I wouldn’t recommend adding this to the pies. The redeeming quality of this place is crust of the pies, which is nice and flaky. Pepperoni was my favorite but it could be cheesier and the spinach mushroom was pretty good too. The southwest chicken and chicken mushroom are okay too. I would not recommend the Guinness steak and potatoes and the curry veggie. Guinness steak was very mediocre and so salty. The curry vegan is a fine attempt at diversifying the menu, but not worth trying if you’re only getting one pie. Overall it’s a nice concept of fast food pies, but they’re not something I think I could ever crave.

Yuck. I was in desperate need of some quick food and thought I’d try a pie. I got the beef at the recommendation of the girl working there and it was already oozing hot slime before I took a bite into it. The meat was rubbery, the aforementioned slime was not pleasant and the pie was falling apart after one bite. I didn’t find much redeeming in this thing. It’s basically fast food hidden under the veil of an interesting concept. Sorry not for me!

Excellent service. Very close to Australian style pies and sausage rolls.

Boomerang’s offers tasty handheld«Aussie Pies» that could probably just be called chicken-pot-pies. The handheld description is a little misleading since as soon as you compromise the crust of the pie, the gooey innards will immediately begin to spill everywhere. So you’ll probably need to stop and sit rather than eat while walking. Using the Hooked app to get a discount(Pie + Can Soda for $ 5), I opted for the Guinness Steak and Potato offering. Given the serving size, the normal price of $ 7 is absolutely way too much. I really wouldn’t consider a single pie sufficient for most people and getting two is probably too much(and definitely too expensive). What a culinary conundrum…

Trailer Food Tuesdays at the Long Center! I was pleasantly surprised to find Boomerang pies here. I ordered the Guinness Steak & Potato and this was a winner. The crusts were buttery and flaky and the filling was piping hot. There was also a gravy in the pie that was seasoned perfectly. You really can’t go wrong with steak and potatoes! It was the end of the day and we didn’t get to try more because they were sold out. I’ll be back to try Chicken & Mushroom, Curry Veggie, and the Bacon/Egg/Cheese(breakfast). I also noticed these pies are now available at Whole Foods in the frozen section. Might have to buy a box.

I did not visit Boomerang’s store front when it was located on Guadalupe but they have been one of my festival favorites. I would usually order the Southwest chicken or the spinach and mushroom when they were at ACL Festival and at Fun Fun Fun Fest. I was looking for a healthy-ish food option at DKR stadium and was excited when I saw Boomerang’s Handheld Pies opened up shop. All the pies are under 500 calories(the Guinness and steak is the highest at 430 k). Usually the crust is flaky and slightly golden to perfection with delicious fillings. These game day pies did not live up to our expectations. I could chock it up to it was game day but I can’t imagine it is any different from preparing/serving at a large music festival. We ordered the spinach & mushroom and the Guinness and steak pies. The spinach and mushroom crust was a bit doughy which I liked. The filling was OK in flavor but I would prefer it warmer. The Guinness and steak was also OK but the crust was slightly over cooked and the top crust was not sealed making this ‘handheld” pie difficult to eat. I would definitely order boomerang’s again during game day vs the other options at the stadium. Tip: The cash only line moves much quicker on game day.

We came by on Trailer Food Tuesday at the Long Center and got a Guinness Steak & Potato and Shrimp & Crawfish Étouffée Pie that was a special menu item. I tried both and was happy. Overall, the pie crust for both of them was done nicely — flaky and savory with some herbs added to give it great flavor. A comment on the pie’s structural integrity: as I was eating my pies, the filling started leaking out of the bottom. For being a hand pie, it’s not the most convenient as a walking around food. Oh well. Onto the individual pies/fillings. I liked the Steak & Potato more than the Étouffée pie. The Steak & Potato had a great mixture of beef and potatoes and the gravy pulled everything together — well seasoned and well balanced. The Shrimp & Crawfish was fine for me. I personally could have used more crawfish flavor, and I think there was some okra in there that started to get kind of slimy and had weird«mouth-feel». This could have been because the pie cooled down a little and the filling started to congeal. All in all, I’ll come back and try it again because of the pie crust. They didn’t have all the pies on the menu, but am interested in trying the Chicken & Mushroom and Curry ones when they have them. Lastly, there’s no good way to tell where they are/will be if you want to track them down. I looked all over their website and tried to find them on Twitter, but still couldn’t find a helpful schedule. I think their Facebook tells you where they are the day of. The guys in the truck did tell me that they usually camp out at UT over by DKR.
