I originally rated Josh’s boot camp class on the ToddPilates page, but I see his classes have their own Unilocal page! Here is my original review with a couple of little updates. ToddPilates has added Boot Camp classes on Saturday mornings at 9 and Wednesday afternoons at 6. Boot camp complements pilates so well as it is more challenging for your legs(hello, jello legs!) and gets your heart beating faster, while still working out your whole body in a similar, non-gimmicky fashion(plank work, for example). Josh’s class typically operates in 30 second circuits with little rest and targets legs/glutes, upper body, and abs/back with strength training, plyometrics and cardio. For example, you might do 30 seconds of jumping lunges, 30 seconds of active rest with a stationary squat, 30 seconds of pop squats, 30 seconds active rest with deadlifts, 30 seconds of jumping jacks, etc.(Edited to add: When we go outside Josh mostly ditches the timer but still has you working at about same pace and at the same flow, say walking lunges across the parking lot, and when you get to the other side you do 20 push ups, then backward lunges back to the other side of the parking lot, and there you do 20 burpees, etc.). Weights(hand weights in the 3 – 15 pound range) are provided, as well as mats, towels and water. If you’re asking yourself if you can do it, I think anyone that can tolerate some high impact exercise(some jumping, some running) and can do a few minutes of moderate to intense cardio without a really bad stitch in your side should feel confident in their ability to attend boot camp – it will only get easier once you get started! Josh can show you some lower impact versions of the moves if you need them, and while the idea is to avoid rest if you can, you can take rests if/when you need them, too. Everyone in class is very friendly, too! I love the extra variety the boot camp class adds to the class schedule. One of the best parts, though, is how they structure the cost of their classes. Your ToddPilates«class card»(say you buy 5, 10, 15 classes for $X) never expires and is good for pilates, zumba, and now, boot camp. You can also pay a flat rate for unlimited classes per month. Overall it’s always a great workout, very fun, and affordable.
