Bulwark Exterminating

We just moved and Logan came out to our new house for a «Start» treatment. He was cordial and professional and when I told him that we had not seen bugs inside our house at all, he was understanding when I preferred not to have the chemicals inside our house. He then sprayed in our garage, and perimeter of the house and used granules for the ants in the yards. He was great. The only reason I did not give a 5 star review is because I would love for Bulwark to use more organic products and less chemicals. (However, a neighbor recently posted that her young son was bitten in his bed by an «assassin bug», and it was extremely painful for him, so there are times when I am happy that their products are stronger…). If you decide to use Bulwark, ask for Logan to treat your house. He knows his stuff.

Moved-​in to our new home in October 2015, so didn’t really need to think about pest control. This week, my wife learned about «scorpion season» in Texas (we’re from the NYC area) and suddenly, pest control became a BIG priority in this house. ;)
I called Bulwark and they sent someone out the next day. Caleb, our tech, meticulously explained what he was doing, why and what we needed to know about the local critters.
We’re now on a bi-​monthly plan with them, but they’ll come out to take care of any «visitors» that may appear between service calls.
Everyone — from the person who accepted my call through the service — was very professional and helpful in answering our newbie questions.

When an unsightly critter sauntered into my bathroom, dizzy from the self-​administered poison we’d laid, I covered him with a yogurt container, on top of which I placed a bottle of toilet cleaner, after which I screamed «I can’t live like this.» Something you might see in an episode of Absolutely Fabulous. I called Bulwark and set up an appointment for the next day.
So the next day…
me: Hi, I have an appointment scheduled for today.
gal: Okay, let me look that up for you… Did you want to reschedule it?
me: No, I would like to keep it.
gal: Okay, one moment… So it’s scheduled between 10 and 12. Did you want to reschedule it?
me: No, I don’t want to reschedule it. I was told it would take 45 minutes to spray the house? It’s passed 11 now and I wanted to know when to drive to the house.
gal: Well I’ve tracked the driver and he will be there between 10:45 and 11.
me: It’s… 11:17 right now. So.
gal: Let me call the driver and get his status.
…
gal: Okay, the driver says he will be there in 30 minutes.
me: Oh. Kay. Thanks.
Meaning the service will be rendered beginning at 11:50. Meaning the 2-​hour window I was given for when this would be accomplished missed the mark. Meaning I moved around some meetings in order to make it to the house at the new time. Meaning I’m not pleased. She was unapologetic about this, likely because these scheduling inaccuracies don’t impact her life in the slightest. If I also had kids and had to deal with this while working I would drop an album called Sweet Tea to follow up on Bey’s Lemonade and set things afire in my wake.
I used Bulwark maybe a year ago for a one-​time service with a Groupon and it went well. I was hoping for the same this go around. Based on the solid reviews, I signed up for a year-​long bi-​monthly service with these folks. My service-​person, Jeremiah, was a cool dude: expedient, informative, and in the business of making light conversation. So I’ll be praying to all the holy saints that the bugs stay away beyond what my Home Depot bug treatments were able to accomplish living so close to a nature preserve. And I definitely hope not to encounter curt tones and inconsiderate scheduling issues in the coming months.

Matt Hartt and Ricky Good came by and took care of a hard to reach wasp nest, and took care of a number of silver fish and other pests in our home. Very helpful, and knowledgeable. I have been a Bulwark customer for years, and they are fantastic.
I wish more companies had the same level of customer care as they do.

I’ve been a customer with Bulwark Exterminating for over fifteen years for a REASON. They’re awesome. They come every month and spray the perimeter of my place with organic pesticide. They always leave an invoice and they come like clock work. If you have an issue inside, you call them and they come out for free (or as part of the bi-​monthly bill) and treat as needed.
I highly recommend Bulwark’s affordable and friendly pest service to anyone out there.

We had a colony fire ants getting into the house. I called Bulwark given the high ratings. They were able to send someone out the next day. Ricky Goud, the tech that came out, was very knowledgeable and friendly. His approach of addressing the source outside of the house helped avoid having to spray inside. While here, he saw a number of wasp nests that he also took care of. I’d highly recommend Ricky and Bulwark!

My first pest experience wasn’t the best, so Eddie was walking into a situation where he was dealing with a skeptical consumer and had a bit of a hurdle to overcome. He did. :)
Eddie is definitely a sharp guy. Nothing I threw at him seemed to be beyond his scope of knowledge (and I’m a obsessive researcher and can be hard to impress.)

I really appreciate Bulwark’s customer service and have used them for the past 2+ years. Efraen Garcia is our technician, and he is always flexible with our schedule and always goes above and beyond what we ask for and need. We originally called them because of a carpenter ant problem, which is non-​existent now. We also have always had issues with scorpions out here, but since we’ve been using Bulwark, we’ve seen virtually none in two years. I highly recommend Bulwark as they will come out for no extra cost between bi-​monthly visits if there are any issues at all.

We have had three technicians coming to our house in the past couple of months — Chance Parmley, John Mendes and Daniel V. All were great, very patient and explained things clearly.
The only drawback was that we had to call them twice after the first treatment as the spiders and ants kept visiting us, although their numbers did drastically reduce. I guess this is okay for now since there are lots of construction happening around us.

We had Steven Najvar work diligently on the house and yard today. Kudos to Steven and Bulwark. We are a pretty high maintenance family with an infant, backyard chickens, and indoor cats, but we trust Bulwark to do a thorough and safe job! Thank you Steven for the excellent work and attention to detail!

The deal is for $ 79 a pop, they come every two months to spray a «barrier» around the house. And still the ants and spiders are here. Probably fewer than there would be if they didn’t spray, but they’re still here. Big ones. I can, of course, call them anytime in between if I want them to come more often, but that really hasn’t helped.
My biggest complaint is that once, I did call to tell them we had ants on our porch and a few inside our house, so they sent a guy out. He walked right into the house (brand new, just built, btw) with his nasty bug chemical shoes without a thought of covering or taking them off. He put a couple of globs of clear goo in the bathroom on the floor that my dogs could easily lick up. After he was gone, we noticed several clumps of dirt on the floor (definitely his, as we take our OWN shoes off in our new home) and every door knob he had touched was sticky, so I had to go around sweeping up after him and cleaning everything he touched to remove the sticky chemicals.
Just recently, I called to tell them we have several ant hills in our very small back yard. The guy came and asked me to show him where they were. Really? How about you take 10 minutes and walk around the yard yourself to ensure you get them all? I believe he sprayed only the ones I mentioned.
Oh, and there is a wasp nest and a LARGE spider web in the corner of our porch that they have never touched. Been there for months. Hmmm. Seems like a «pest» company should notice and remove those things. But then, I didn’t point it out to any of the guys who have come, so, no.
Not impressed with this company at all. I think I’ll go with a smaller company that takes their time, does a regular check themselves for pests, and knows what they’re doing.

Steven Najvar was my technician and he was excellent. Only time will tell if my tiny ant and spider «friends» return, however, Steven was prompt and very thorough.
I would highly recommend this company if looking to switch from one of the huge corporations, such as the ones I have dealt with in the past as the prices are more than competitive.

Ricky was on time, courteous, and knowledgable. He treated all areas of our home and provided suggestions regarding how to prevent bug/​critter entry to our home. Thank you Ricky/​Bulwark!

We’ve had problems with spiders and ants so we did our research and searched around for a reputable company. Based on the «supposedly» good reviews, we called these guys. The first guy that arrived sprayed around the house and told us that there would be a follow-​up in a week.
Well, the next week we called to see if we could have them follow up sooner since we were still seeing dozens of ants in our house and found out that they didn’t even have a follow-​up scheduled. They went ahead and sent a 2^nd guy to come the next day to do a follow-​up, but he just walked around asking where we saw the ants. I thought he was going to spray the areas, but instead told me «I’m not going to spray again, but I’ll leave you some bait traps that work wonders.» After hearing his rave review about these, I decided to give these a shot. Later that evening, I saw ants coming out of the electrical outlet where they sprayed and set one of the «baits’. I also saw ants in our bathroom and laid a bait trap there as well. I watched the ants expecting them to become attracted to the bait, but they seemed to turn the other direction. So these were more like a repellent than bait. I went ahead and left the traps over night to give them the benefit of the doubt. The next day all the ants were gone, but the bait trap was empty. The ants simply just moved to another area of the house.
So we called for another follow-​up and the 3^rd guy that came also didn’t spray again. Instead, he leaves us with a tube of some gel that supposedly works better than the bait traps LOL. Seriously, it’s like they should be paying me to exterminate my own ants. Once again this «bait» gel did nothing. The ants just walk the other direction.
So, we still have ants in the house and have pretty much given up on this company. There is a company in Cedar Park that we used last year that did an excellent job so we will call them again. Until then, I’m forced to buy some ant killer from Amazon and do the job myself.
Edit — Since this review, the company has reached out to us to help rectify the issue which shows that they sincerely care about their customers’ thoughts. They’ve sent a follow-​up for the ants, but our ant problems have gone away since I used my own ant killer (We found out that we had fire ants and not sugar ants). However, we have found other insects dead from their visit (crickets, spiders, etc) so that’s good.

First treatment with Bulwark and Steven Najvar did a great job, was very professional and patient with my dog. Really appreciate all the hard work and going above and beyond, trying to win my «scaredy cat» of a dog over.
