Cake, Please!

I was overly happy with CakePlease! for my wedding.
It’s not easy finding what you WANT, to feed 250 people, that won’t break the bank, ESPECIALLY when you put «wedding» in front of it. I found these guys at the bridal extravaganza.
I was determined to have cake balls at my wedding, after tasting them somewhere else, where they wanted nearly my first born for the 400 we would need! As approached the stand for CakePlease! I asked them the same question I had asked every baker we had passed. I had asked this a lot without much success so grudgingly I said again, «Do you guys make cake balls?» Smiling she tells me, «Yes we do but we call them cakettes, we like that term better.» Hmmm now that you say it, me too. I perked up a bit and asked for an estimate. When she handed me the estimate I offered her a down payment right there, I was worried I was dreaming, this was too good to be true! She laughed, told me I should come in for a tasting first and then we could set up the rest. I was SOOOO excited! BUT I am a bit of a procrastinator and waited a couple weeks to call. When I did, they were booked for my wedding day! I was devastated. I called everywhere I could think of, but couldn’t find what I wanted. Defeated I called back and almost begged for them to do my wedding, I told them I would pick up the 400 cakettes the day before the wedding, having no idea how, but I was determined to have them do the wedding. They agreed and we set up the tasting.
I took my mom and fiancé to the tasting and not only were they so nice, accommodating, and patient, they loaded us down with tastings that were all so delicious we were on a sugar high when we left. Everything was so good we had trouble choosing just two, so they told us they would do the 3 we chose and just even the flavors between the white chocolate covering and the chocolate covering. They even said they could do a two tier cake for cutting that would match our theme. These 400 cakettes AND the two tier cake were less in cost than another business wanted to charge for just 200 cake balls!
A few months before the wedding my dad came in town and I wanted him to try the cakettes, I called up CakePLease! and asked if I could order some, she was more than happy to put together a sampling packet for me to pick up and try with my dad, SO SWEET!
A couple days before the wedding I came in to pick up my order and she had everything sectioned out into smaller boxes so we could stack them in the freezer or fridge, something I had not even thought of! She explained she had made them a little more moist in the inside since it would be a couple days and put in some extra melting chocolate incase I knocked off anything on the cake (although it was very secure and this was not a problem).
The day of the wedding the cakettes were put out about an hour before the wedding and they didn’t even remain untouched before the wedding, by the time we got to cake cutting there were definitely some missing. I had people raving all night about the cakettes and how they couldn’t stop eating them! They were SO good!!!

Foreword: This review is strictly about the cake from this establishment and not «Cake, Please!‘s» service (I didn’t deal with the establishment directly). Furthermore, know that this review is based on my opinion of a single cake. I offer up this review simply because I expect much much better for the price we paid for a custom baked cake.
On to the cake itself:
Our office manager brought in a custom ordered, fresh vanilla cake with chocolate icing directly from «Cake, Please!.» I have to say this cake was by far the WORST cake I’ve eaten in a long time. The chocolate icing was overly sweet, but was also flavored with cinnamon for some reason. Our office manager swears he had no knowledge of the cinnamon. Who ruins chocolate icing with cinnamon and does so without warning the purchaser?
Even worse, the cake itself was dry, with a coarse grain. Like the icing, the cake was overly sweet and almost tasted like angel food cake, even though it wasn’t. The combination of cake and icing was utterly inedible.
We served cake to over 10 people, but only one person ate more than half of his piece. I ate three bites of my piece before throwing the rest in the trash. We couldn’t get anyone to take the rest of the cake home, and it too ended up in the trash. What a waste. I’m just glad we weren’t entertaining any clients or guests today.
I’d give one star, but I feel slightly guilty doing so without rating any element of service.
Next time I’ll remember. Be sure to send the co-​workers to Sugar Mama’s for cake, as we usually do.

Their cupcakes are pretty good; however, redeeming a groupon I purchased was a major hassle. I really try not to be a schmuck with things like this, so I always try to read the fine print and follow the rules, but the rules kept changing.
First, I try to send in an email order for the next week and get a response that they «may» be closed the week I was ordering the cupcakes for – well, were they or were they not? A couple days later I get a reply that they would be closed that week for renovations, so no cupcakes for me (add Soup Nazi voice here)! But they did extend the expiration date on the groupon. Fine.
Several weeks later I go to redeem the order and call from work. They ask me to please email the order instead. Fine.
I email the order when I get home. I was taking the cupcakes to students in one of my classes and I requested a time slot when the cupcakes could be ready (I didn’t want them done by 9 am when I was going to give them out at 6:00 pm). Someone wrote back and said I would need to pick them up by 2:00 pm as that is the latest pickup time. This would basically result in my scheduling my entire work day around cupcake pickup. This kind of annoys me but… fine.
So that Wednesday I race down Manchaca like Jack Bauer with my cupcake deadline ticking down. I find the shopping center where the bakery is but it’s kind of in a weird spot (it’s part of an internal «suite» of small businesses, so their sign isn’t visible from the parking lot). A nice lady helps me out and I speed walk into the store (speed walking is probably where the Jack Bauer comparison ends). I run in expecting them to be closing up shop (They’re not. One woman is meeting with a client. Another is doing I’m not sure what). I finally get the cupcakes. I walk out into the hot sun and I think about all the work that went into getting these things and I remember thinking: «These cupcakes better taste as good as an orgasm feels.» Yes, I was a little annoyed about scheduling my work day around cupcake pickup.
Anyway, the cupcakes (Italian cream cake and red velvet) were a hit with my students. Did they reach the orgasmic heights needed to make it worth the hassle? No. I think this relatively new business was overwhelmed and maybe if it was a «regular» customer who could lay down the law more, they may get some good baked goods out of this.

Cake, Please! is so nice and accommodating! They helped make our going away party perfect.
Their product’s great too. The cakettes (cake balls) are amazing! I like them even better than cupcakes. Give them a try!

I used a deal I had from 365 Things To Do In Austin and the ladies at Cake Please were awesome to work with.
I ordered a dozen cupcakes for my graduation reception and even though they weren’t taking orders for that week, they made a special allowance for me, had my cupcakes ready on time and were super sweet. They also decorate everything with absolutely adorable little edible decorations and I LOVED mine. Overall great experience!
Only thing is that if you don’t know where it is, it’s a little difficult to find– the entrance is in the internal lobby in the inside corner of the Cherry Creek shopping strip.

I just ate a Mexican Chocolate cupcake, a holy gift in return for my notes. I was also made to swear on all that is Abnormal Child Psychopathology to freeze the remaining 11 cupcakes to save for a later date, locking in their absurd ecstasy magic.
I should start selling notes for cupcake$.

3 orders from Cake, Please! (thanks Groupon) and I was pleased all 3 times. These are perfectly pretty and tasty cupcakes. A solid A-​OK. There are a tremendous number of flavor combinations you can customize and order.
However, I prefer a mind blowing cupcake and am less concerned about how it looks. I want gummy fish and sparklers and LED lights in my cupcake.
The cakettes were good, but I prefer the ones at Fair Bean Coffee. Service is definitely a plus and the owner very clearly cares about her customers and her business.
For my 3^rd order, only 1 dozen if 2 dozen were ready. The staff quickly prepared the 2^nd dozen, but with different icing so they didn’t all match.
I was impressed with how quickly they prepared them but disappointed with presentation.
Maybe wedding cakes is where they truly excel. Certainly glad I purchased the Groupons though.

WOWWWWEEE! If you have never tasted a cake ball (a.k.a. cakette), you are lucky because now that I have had one from Cake, Please!, I am doomed to «knowing» what all the fuss has been about. They are so FANTASTIC! I think that if I was on an island and could only have one food — YEP — CAKETTES! The staff is friendly and I had no problem using my Groupon coupon. Highly Recommend!

I went into my tasting with Cake, Please! today. While I have not yet seen their finished product, today I had an awesome experience. I have been searching everywhere for a specific flavor of cake – almond! Keesha created an almond buttercream frosting, almond cake, and almond gnache. I have tried so many bakeries, and no one has been able to nail down this flavor like she did. I signed the contract today. She is very easy to work with and worked within our budget. If the tasting is any indication of what to expect I will be very pleased!

All you gotta do is check out the photos my wife (Alicia J) and I submitted … We simply could not have been more pleased with Cake, Please! and their contributions to our wedding.
We got to sample all the cakes and icings available – they were all great. Alicia even got a gluten-​free top tier!
I wish I could get married again just so I could use them again.

Cake Please! just did gorgeous, yummy cupcakes for our wedding yesterday, and they turned out AWESOME!
We found them also to be very professional and very reasonably priced! I would recommend them to anyone getting married in A Town!

I found Cake, Please! at a bridal show and instantly fell in love! I don’t usually like cake, but their’s was delicious. They looked great from the photos too. My hubby-​to-​be and I went for a cake tasting and both made our decision then and there. In addition to the great tasting, great looking cakes, the bakers are also SO nice. My cake was pretty difficult, huge peacock cake, but they made it happen!
