Childrens Urology

Due to an issue with our insurance it was going to be necessary to travel from DFW to Austin to see a pediatric urologist. We spoke with the receptionist twice to try & get an appointment scheduled. With a 6 month old preemie & a 5+ hour drive, we were asking for some help (& maybe a little compassion) to try to make this as easy as possible for our son. The receptionist was not helpful & appeared callous & indifferent to our situation. The doctor may or may not be great, but we could never get past the front office. Would not recommend.

WE are very thankful to Dr Sweeney who is a very compassionate doctor and willing to answer any questions as well as give additional information if needed. Nothing worse than worrying about your son (not even 1 yr yet) having to possibly have a procedure done. My husband and I dreaded it since we knew about possibility from day one. Definitely was very comfortable and felt my son was in good hands with Dr Sweeney :)

once again my frustrations with administrative staff… mainly receptionist who when calling to schedule initial appointment asked for all the information, which I gave, decided to ask several times, do to misunderstanding and not listening because more interested in asking for a lot of information as I am trying to also give the information «so its… correct?» to which I would say «no» and try to spell it again (last name, street name, etc). Once I arrived day of the appointment and checked in I was given a few forms to fill out and told to look over basic information and correct any mistakes… well thank goodness I had already filled out the patient forms provided online because there wasn’t much that was correct. and now because of that my son has 2 charts, not 1. which I hope can be fixed.
one of my biggest frustrations is communication problems… when I cant speak English any clearer than i know how it is very stressful to try to give very important information that HAS to be correct and even try to make sure its correct and find out it is still wrong even when you spell something 5 times.
hope someone from the office sees this and will fix the problems

I just want to say that Dr Cortez has gone out of his way to see my newborn after business hours and on days that he is scheduled for surgery. They have been very thorough. Dr Cortez spent nearly an hour with me and my 2 month old discussing the plans for future surgery. He also performed the baby catheter which I was thankful but surprised that he didn’t have a nurse do. I am thankful for the staff that have shown me they are will to squeeze my baby in a busy day because her condition could be life threatening. I understand that sometimes Drs run late but I can assure you, dr Cortez cares.

Do not go to this office!!! Like the two posts before, I was overbilled for an office visit, by almost $ 1,000. My son had the same test done two separate times, they billed the insurance company $ 400 the first time and $ 1300 the second time! AFTER I brought this to their attention they decided to «rebill» the first test so that the charges are equal to the second visit. COMPLETE FRAUD!!! I totally agree that the office manager, Richard, is rude, combative, and belligerent. I don’t know how they are getting away with this.

Synopsos: They charged us for a «specialist visit» but all we got was a physician’s assistant. When I attemtped to discuss it with office manager he was immediately combative and refused to even consider any remedial solution — even before we requested anything. «We’ve billed according to the contract and we’re not going to do anything different,» were his exact words. (Presumably he meant their contract with the insurer — not sure what that has to do with our satisfaction or ethics.)

Like the reviewer below, we were very unhappy with the administrative staff of Children’s Urology.
Everything was fine until the checkout of our visit when I realized that we had paid for a «specialist visit» but we never actually spoke with a specialist. In fact, they never even gave us a doctor to talk to. Instead, we were attended by a nurse and a physicians assistant. (She was very good and I have no complaints about her knowledge and abilities.) But she wasn’t the «specialist» we paid for.
When I pointed out to the office manager, that we had been billed for a «specialist» visit, but had not been seen by a specialist, he became very defensive saying that «We bill according to the contract and we’re NOT going to do anything different.»
He seemed to have lost all touch with any desire to satisfy the customer or even treat the customer fairly. And it was obvious from his unprovoked combative stance that he had heard this complaint before.
He refused to consider that he was flat out cheating us (billing us for a level of service 2 grades higher than they provided). He seemed very happy to cheat us this way and was completely unfazed (or hadn’t considered) that he lost us as a customer.
We had left the PA with a plan to come back for 1 followup visit and a future surgery on our child that would require general anethesia.
As a result of his stubborn averice, we will NOT be returning to Children’s Urology for any procedure. (You do the math on the revenues lost by them.)
