Description

Specialties

Located in the heart of East Sixth Street, Clayworks is now making its galleries and garden area more widely available as a venue. Our Breezeway Gallery can be arranged for wine tastings, exhibits, meals or even intimate concerts, accommodating 60 people or more. We’ve hosted dozens of events over the years, and though we’ll still be producing handmade pottery, we’re putting more emphasis on events.

Stop by our gallery on East 6th Street to browse our handmade tiles, sconces and pottery and while you’re here, imagine your next gathering in this unique setting.

History

Established in 1978.

At Clayworks, we have been practicing the art of architectural ceramics for more than 35 years. The studio is known for custom architectural work, including historical tile restoration and large-scale seals and murals. In 2007, we converted a portion of our studio into a gallery and event space we call The Breezeway. We’ve hosted many local art and artisan exhibits, performances and presentations in this versatile space.

Among other Austin landmarks, our custom tile work can be seen at the Texas State Capitol Building, The Driskill Hotel and the University of Texas. We proudly create each piece on-site, from mixing the clay to firing in our own kilns. Over the years, the style we’ve developed has grown to reflect the spirit and the palette of Austin. Wondering how the work is done? Just ask — we’ll give you an impromptu tour!
