Cliffs At Barton Creek

I lived here a little longer after my initial review and things had actually gotten better. I moved to an updated apartment and the appliances had all been updated and were functional. The parking situation was also fixed. Maybe someone listened to my complaints.

I’ve had the pleasure of living at The Cliffs for over 5 years, and I’m actually sad about leaving in the next few months. In my time here, I have always felt a strong sense of community. The location is so convenient for anybody, and the staff, especially the manager, Jessica Higgins, has always been so warm and willing to help with anything and everything I’ve ever needed during my stay. I am so grateful to Jessica, and all the other staff, who have facilitated such a great home for me over the past years. I highly recommend The Cliffs to anyone:) Thanks so much again, Jessica, for all that you do!!!

This is my second year living here and I am very happy! The front office is very nice and if you have any issues someone addresses it immediately. The complex is small and you don’t see the constant moving trucks every month like you do in other places. The location is wonderful! After a nightmare of living at the Gables (across the street) I decided to give The Cliffs a second look and I am glad I did. My only complaint is that the valet trash, which most apts in Austin have, I wish we had a choice to pot out of the service, I would rather take out my own trash. I will probably stay here a couple more years!

I’ve lived at The Cliffs for over three years now and overall have been very happy with everything. I started in a three bedroom apartment that was just amazing, with a view of the greenbelt and downtown. My neighbors were friendly and everyone was respectful of our shared space. Last year I downsized to a smaller apartment. The interiors of both were clean, new and updated.
Whenever I have had a maintenance issue they are so quick to come and fix it. I even got help with an emergency plumbing situation on a Saturday evening when I was about to host a Christmas dinner party. Carlos is one of the maintenance staff and he’s been there as long as I have… and it’s nice to know who’s coming into your apartment! The office staff has been nothing but helpful and nice.
The gym recently got upgraded which is definitely a bonus for early morning workouts. The pool is always well maintained.
Some of the reviews I’ve read of the The Cliffs complain about high staff turnover, too many kids at the pool and people walking their dogs in front of first floor apartments. Although some front office staff have come and gone, Jessica has been there I believe about three years, as well as Carlos, one of two maintenance men. Kids are going to be at the pool. And people do walk their dogs… these are apartments and it IS community living. On the whole I have experience mostly respectful people and lovely staff.
Landscaping happens every Wednesday, and there is regular pest control service.
I’ve stayed at this complex because of all of these reasons. It’s nice to know if there’s an issue, they are going to be there to help. And it’s beautiful!

Thought I’d post a review since most are pretty negative. It’s hard to please everyone with an apartment complex, especially when you’re looking for a cost effective option. The Cliffs are really pretty decent; I always recommend it to my friends looking for a new apartment with a good location that’s close to downtown without feeling cramped (like hyde park/​north campus/​everything else close to dt). There’s a really nice area behind the apartments that feels like a backyard and there are balconies to sit outside and relax. The maintenance guys are super friendly and always helpful, and the property managers have generally been pretty easy going and accommodating, particularly Jessica.
Complaints — parking does suck. This is my second year to live here and when we moved to a larger unit we made sure to get one that included a covered/​reserved parking spot. There needs to be more free spots for residents as well as guest spots. I had an issue with bugs in the first apartment (despite having pest control come spray — which is included in your rent) but haven’t had any since moving to the new unit. You have to pay $ 30 for trash pickup (can’t opt out) as there is only one trash receptacle on the far end of the property. The equipment in the gym is pretty old, and they seem to turn the AC off when the office is closed for some reason.
Other than that, I’ve been really happy here so far and have no intentions of moving anytime soon!

My wife, children, and I have lived at The Cliffs since December 2012. I am somewhat shocked at the reviews on Unilocal,and that’s part of the reason I decided to write one of my own. The Cliffs at Barton Creek has been nothing short of the best living situation we have encountered, and we’ve owned two homes and leased six different apartments in our marriage. I’m unsure why anyone has given them negative reviews, especially with a low one or two-​star rating. Every resident we encounter here loves this place.
The staff is super. Jessica, who helps manage, is one of our favorite people on planet earth. The fact she works here is bonus! You can tell she loves her job, and that makes dealing with her a pleasure every time. The maintenance team of Carlos and Caleb fix any problems promptly, and they are always, always friendly to our children. I cannot say a negative word about anyone on staff here.
The apartments are nice, and we haven’t even gotten the upgrade (s) in ours. We love the layout. We also feel secure here. Because it’s not a super big apartment community, you really get to know most of your neighbors, and I’ve noticed we all watch out for each other and are quick to report any suspicious activity. The location is great, as you are across the street from the mall and within a few miles of downtown. We sit on our back porch many nights admiring Austin’s beautiful skyline.
I never thought I’d be a «fan» of an apartment community, but we are of The Cliffs. I know most people only write reviews if they have something negative happen, and again, that is one reason I wanted to share our experiences which have been crazy good. We hope to keep this as our home for years to come.

Expect to pay for parking, outdated, over-​priced apartments, junk on most decks, pool is overrun by kids, and the «updates» they are making (darker cabinets and new faux floors) to charge double are pretty lame. No security cameras or security — multiple late night parties that have resulted in the pool and gym being shut down due to glass in the pool. The «walking trail» frequently washes out, and the dog park is full of fleas. The stairs and halls haven’t been power washed in decades, and the former green paint is visible on everything from the rotting surrounding gates to the stairs (and good luck if you get an apartment that was previously painted another color — it will be half covered). In less than 6 months, we’ve been without heat during the coldest period for 5+ days, and A/​C during a heat wave for 4 days. Maintenance does shoddy repairs, which you have to constantly ask about regarding the status to remind them they have forgotten about them. But hey, offer free breakfast tacos once a quarter and that will solve everything.

Outdated and overpriced. Water heater kept breaking and you have to pay even more to have a parking spot otherwise you won’t get one. Don’t recommend living here!

The biggest problem here is parking, but that is not to say that it is the only problem. In the time I rented here we had multiple apartment and vehicle break ins, before any action was taken by the staff. I also had to put in maintenance requests on a consistent basis due to appliances breaking/​not working. The location is good, but I’m not sure it is good enough to deal with all the other problems.

My boyfriend and I recently viewed these apartments, and while the amenities and lay-​outs are nice, we were really disappointed in the parking! They have garages and covered spaces to sell, of course, but if you ever have visitors or just aren’t keen to pay for parking, you will be disappointed. There are enough nice complexes in that area of Austin, that the parking situation really was a deal-​breaker for us. We’ll keep looking elsewhere!

I’ve been living at the Cliffs for a couple years, and I love it. There are beautiful views of downtown and greenbelt (though not from my apartment; I live in a pauper unit compared to most of the other units), the pool is nice, the staff is friendly, and maintenance is quick to fix things. I have to take away a star for parking, as others have mentioned. Most of the spaces are tiny, and people are constantly double parking their SUV’s, making it really difficult for me to get into my car while wearing a knee-​length skirt and juggling a purse, laptop, lunch, and coffee on my way to work in the morning. However, my little, one-​bedroom apartment, with its crown molding, fireplace, garden tub, large kitchen, and breakfast nook is beautiful and cozy. The price is fair (the fact that I don’t have a view of anything pretty from my windows knocks down my rent quite a bit), and I have no plans for leaving anytime soon. After moving here from apartments with rat/​raccoon/​cockroach/​flea problems in more fun parts of town, this is like living in a quiet paradise.

The apartments are nice as is the pool. There are parking problems (not enough spaces) and hence people may wind up parking in towable areas, watering problems (currently watering in our time of drought) and maintenance issues.
There are three office management folks and the youngest one does a terrific job of being courteous and responsive: always. The property maintenance crew are excellent, friendly and helpful.
