Description

Specialties

Cocker Spaniel Rescue of Austin/San Antonio (CSRA) is an all-volunteer, non-profit 501©(3) organization dedicated to providing a safe haven for cocker spaniel dogs in need in central Texas. Our rescued orphans are fostered in the loving homes of our volunteers who work proactively to teach life skills, advocate for the dogs’ health needs, and prepare them for life with a new family.

History

Established in 2001.

CSRA was established in October 2001 by Edmond McEnany, Noira Bolin, and Lee Bell (Noira and Lee are still on our board), under the tutelage of Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas (CSRET). CSRET was looking for help rescuing cocker spaniels in the Austin & San Antonio areas. The first dog was rescued was from Town Lake Animal Shelter in Austin. In 2002, more volunteers were recruited and 36 Cockers were saved. In 2003, 35 lives were saved. By 2004, the number of dogs saved rose to 61. By 2005, the number saved was 67 and in 2006, 68 were saved. In 2007, CSRA filed for and achieved independent 501©(3) status and saved 106 dogs that year. Due to the continued growth, another Director was added to the Board in 2007. In 2008, CSRA rescued 126 cocker spaniels and in 2009 that number rose again to 139. In 2010, we saved 158 cockers and are well on the way to saving more lives than ever before in 2011!
