I have used cpu for nearly 10 years for my spring break tour company inertia tours for computer problems at our former Austin office, and now even use them at our Texas State office in San Marcos. Randy has done virus removal to networking to setting up my voip phones and a reasonable price but the price isn’t my focus I just need it done right and I don’t have time to call some kid that might not show up. I recommend them for keeping appointments and being reasonable.

Randy at CPU handled my company’s transition from a Windows 2003 Server environment to a Windows 7 peer-​to-​peer platform, as well as data migration of several of our old workstations running Windows XP to new Windows 7 computers. This was an involved process that included ensuring seamless functionality of all upgraded software, including a successful transfer of data crucial to our day-​to-​day operation.
I found Randy to be efficient and knowledgeable, with a solid knack for devising work-​around solutions to a few bumps that were experienced during the process. I would not hesitate to call on Randy again, and gladly extend a positive recommendation for any individual or business needing assistance in CPU’s area of expertise.

I hired Randy to fix a handful of issues for our company. He was on time and traveled to Georgetown in the evening, after hours time which was extremely helpful. He fixed our issues and all is back in order. The process was extremely stress free…

I used Randy at CPU to fix my computers and he was awesome !! I am a novice user and not only did he network my computers for me but also got them running up to speed and explained to me how to keep everything on track.

Randy is definitely the go to guy for computer services in Austin TX. I called him about an issue I was having. He knew that it was a simple fix and told me how to take care of the problem over the phone. Most people would have exploited an opportunity like that. I’ll definitely be going to him later if I run into more issues.

I found Randy on Unilocal and I was very happy with his work. I had a relatively new Asus laptop and it finally completely crashed. Randy was able to fix everything and it actually runs faster than it ever did. His prices are very reasonable and I love the fact that he makes house calls to work at your home or can pick it up and take it with him. There are so many people in town that work on computers so it’s great to find someone who knows what they’re doing and is reasonably priced. Randy is the only one who would take calls so I think the negative review is from calling somewhere else. I highly recommend Randy and CPU.

Go elsewhere. I own my own business and have never given a negative review as I know how detrimental it can be on a business. However, I inquired about a computer repair recently and could not get through to anyone. A few hours later I received a phone call from a smart Aleck trying to sell me a new computer. I just wanted a quote to fix my computer. He ended up hanging up on me because my problem wasn’t sufficient enough for him to make money. I do not understand some people. I shop local to avoid people like this. I should have gone to a big box retailer.

I have a very nice ASUS laptop that has treated me very nice for about 4 years now. Unfortunately the laptop stopped taking a charge due to a broken DC adapter. I am fairly computer savy, so I started to take apart my laptop to see if I could fix it myself. Shortly after the attempt I realized I could not do it without potentially damaging the machine.
At this point I realized I needed professional help. I called a few repair companies for information and an estimate with much frustration. Everyone I spoke to was not very clear with the pricing and seemed to busy to give me the time of day for an clear explanation of how the whole process worked. I then went to Unilocal to find a reputable repair company and found CPU — Computer Professionals United.
I text messaged Randy and shortly after he called me back. During my phone conversation he took the time to find out exactly what was wrong with the computer, making me feel much more comfortable moving forward. I caught Randy on a slow day so he was able to come over to my home within a few hours to find out more about the computer issue.
He was able to properly take my laptop apart very quickly, showing me the correct way the process works. The problem was diagnosed and we went online to order the part I needed at a great price.
The part was delivered a couple days later and Randy came back to my home to pick up the laptop and the part. He came back in a few days with the repaired laptop and it works great.
Regarding the pricing, Randy charges a flat rate for all the various repairs he does so you know exactly what your getting into before you. He does not charge by the hour either so you know he is motivated to find out what is wrong, fix it, and move on. But don’t worry, he has a 1 year warranty on his work so you can feel good that the fix will stick.
In summary, I recommend Randy’s repairs for any computer issues, but especially to those who: don’t have time to drive all over town, don’t want to be overcharged, and expect great customer service. Thanks Randy!

Ok, Randy just left and my computer is back up and running. I called earlier today. Originally, he didn’t have time, but with a schedule change, he was able to move up the appointment. It took about 45 minutes and cost $ 55.
Up sides: Randy came over when he promised (earlier given the originally agreed time), he was able to fix the problem, he made appropriate recommendations along the «preventive medicine» lines, was willing and able to describe what he was doing and how I got into trouble in the first place, did not try to sell me something I didn’t need.
Down sides: there is only one of him, so if you need immediate service, you might need to try someone else. That said, I have gone with the Geek Squads of the world in the past and while the car may always be the same, the quality of the work is not. Then, if there’s a problem, you don’t know who to call and you have to tell the whole story all over again. He did not have paperwork or business cards with him (but I was added on at 7 at night, so I won’t complain about that either)

After 3.5 years in wine sales, the ultimate disaster finally happened… wine spilt on my computer. Worst of all it happened later in the evening when all shops are closed. I called Randy and then sent him a text. He called me back immediately and offered assistance.
Randy came out to my house the following day and worked on my computer. He decided the motherboard was fried, so he downloaded info off my hard drive on to my other computer. Randy took my computer with him to work on and then tried to help me find a new mother board for the computer. Unfortunately it was more economical to buy a new computer then to fix my old one, so that is what I did.
Randy was very patient and helpful. He spent a lot of time researching the parts needed and helping me weigh all the options between buying new, refurbished or fixing the old. Hopefully I won’t be spilling anything on this new computer, but if something unfortunate does happen, I’ll be calling him.

Randy did a great job fixing my laptop.
I’m reasonably computer literate and my laptop had gotten to the point where I could no longer repair it. Buying a new one seemed pointless because I had purchased my laptop two years ago and had done all the right things to keep it going.
I found Randy using Unilocal!and have to say I was pleased with his work. He called to discuss what he would do, how much it would cost and what my options were. He kept up the contact during the repair process as well, which I appreciated. He came to me to get my laptop and returned it to my side of town as well. The cost was reasonable and he’ll address that with you when you talk.
The whole repair process took a bit longer than expected, but I’m happy to have my lap top back to normal and I definitely could not have fixed this on my own.
I definitely recommend him for repair of buggy laptops!

I just wanted to give Randy huge kudos for his help! I found him on Unilocal and took a shot in the dark since we are new to the Austin area. He was trust-​worthy, honest, and very hard working! I appreciated his honesty and guidance in assisting us with our computer problems! I would and will be recommending him to everyone I know and also be using him again to work on our laptop soon! Be sure to read all reviews, because you will notice everyone raves about him and it is sooooo true!!! He recommends all of the options and explains in great detail the pros and cons along with any equipment upgrades you may possibly need too! When he left, I had no questions what-​so-​ever and felt more educated than when we started!

I used CPU back in 2010 and found that my review has been «filtered», so you can read it if you go to «filtered reviews». I don’t know why and it doesn’t make me happy, but maybe if I continue to send in reviews, I’ll be considered a «reliable» Unilocaler.
I used CPU again a couple of weeks ago, and if you’re going to be home and don’t mind waiting a while for a late Randy, he’ll do a good job. He provides good phone support — but won’t answer emails.

Randy at CPU was very helpful. He doesn’t just fix your computer, he helps you and communicates with you so that you can avoid frustrations in the future. My computer was totally destroyed by a virus and he was able to help me quickly, and save all my important files.
It was also convenient because he picks up and drops off. Great since I don’t have a car.
The price was very reasonable compared to other places in Austin. The service is tailored to you and it’s way better than going into some store with lots of people.
I would definitely recommend CPU to anyone that wants a hardworking, knowledgeable and friendly person to help them out when technology backfires on them

I picked CPU because it had the highest Unilocal reviews. And I’m glad I did! I’m very happy with the end results — Randy did a great job!
My laptop’s screen had died & needed to be replaced. He put me in touch with an associate who helped my get a good deal on the hardware & then scheduled an appointment to come to my house to fix it. In addition to fixing the screen, he went above & beyond to help me with several other computer concerns & questions.
He is a one-​man show, so sometimes it took a day or two to get feedback &/​or an appointment, but I wasn’t in a huge hurry, so it was fine in my case.
All in all I’m very pleased — he provided both great value & great service. Thanks Randy!

One of the worst and most frustrating service providers I have ever worked with.
Convinced us to spend $ 1700 getting a new computer, router, and external RAID drive — and then he was unable to get the setup to work for us. All we asked was for him to connect my computer and my wife’s computer and make sure that our data would be a) backed up and b) accessible back and forth between computers. We told him that our primary use of the computers was for iTunes and photos.
Randy was utterly incapable of helping us get this done. Every step of the way we encountered new problems that he hadn’t anticipated and couldn’t mitigate. He didn’t know a thing about iTunes or Picasa, which was one problem. But the bigger problem was that he also didn’t know much about the computer and OS he recommended that we buy, or about the RAID system and its capabilities. And he knew NOTHING about how to get them all to work together easily.
To Randy’s credit, he’s willing to spend a lot of time trying to get things done. He probably spent 12 – 15 total hours at our house over 3 sessions. But he’s so slow and scattered in his approach, it’s no wonder it takes so long. What we wanted was someone who could make our lives easier — not more complicated. But he did the opposite. We had to be actively there with him for much of the time he was at the house, and it was torturously boring, confusing, and unpleasant (he also often smells like he hasn’t showered in several days). Then, we spent another 15 – 20 hours doing things that he recommended in terms of file transfer, etc — and trying to research and fix the unanticipated problems that resulted from his setup (e.g., iTunes takes 30 minutes to synch to my iPod, and won’t burn a disc).
What we’re left with is many days wasted, tons of frustration, $ 1700 worth of unreturnable equipment, and a setup that doesn’t work. No matter how we try to fix /​improve the setup, it will take dozens of hours more of our time because he had us move all our files off our old machines and onto the RAID server. And we will definitely have to spend more money to dig ourselves out of this hole.
Randy probably knows a lot about how to set up a small office PC network in 1997. If you’re looking for that — he may be your man. If you’re looking for someone who knows how progressive people use computers, software, and the internet in 2011, you’d better look elsewhere.

I hired Randy after reading the great reviews his other customers have left. I was very impressed with his professionalism and results of the project we hired him for.
We had a brief chat on the phone where I explained that I needed our central wiring closet connected and my internet and router terminated there. The internet service provider had no idea how to deal with it.
Randy gave me a fixed quote on the phone and we set up a time. He was able to work after hours which was very convenient for us. Randy showed up prepared with everything he needed and now our internet works throughout our house and in the back yard as well.
I had the option of paying him to walk me through the setup, but chose to have him do the work so I could do other things. I’m glad since the builder left dead wires in the wall and Randy patiently hooked each of them up and tested them.
When he was finished he looked over my husband’s laptop, removed some spyware and tidied things up. Not only will I heartily recommend him to others, but I will definitely use him every chance I get for the IT projects I just don’t want to deal with.
