I recently purchased a vintage iron chandelier. As the fixture needed rewiring and other small repairs I set out on a Monday morning for a local shop I had used previously, only to find it closed on Mondays, as was my second option. I discovered D & W lighting by chance and decided to drop in a take a look. I found the eclectic stock interesting and the friendly staff (Anna, in this case) immediately helpful. We discussed what I had in mind and looked at some of the materials that would be used for the needed repairs and I decided to leave the fixture in their hands. Within a month (this was during the Christmas holidays) I received a call that the fixture was ready for pickup. I was delighted with the result and felt the cost to be fair based on what was needed. Their recommendation for an electrician to hang the fixture turned out to be excellent as well… a shout out to Jason Hurley with Hurley’s Electrical Service. All in all a very satisfying experience!

Great job D&W! You’ve fixed a couple of lamps for me over the years – my favorite one is the «touch me» dimmer kind, and it is pretty much irreplaceable, as it’s not made anymore. Today is New Year’s Eve – and I was surprised to see you open at 3:30 in the afternoon. I needed a replacement switch for an antique lamp, and you had a coffee can-​full and were so helpful! To the three ladies at the front desk – many thanks for your great service always. Happy 2016.

I brought in a very expensive lamp that had stopped working. In their unfamiliarity with anything that is not simple and unsophisticated, THEY DESTROYED MY LAMP.
As if that was not bad enough, they were UNWILLING TO REFUND THE MONEY that I paid them to repair the lamp, and invited me to express my disappointment in the outcome here on Unilocal.Nice.
Therefore, I warn you about these guys, THEY TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR WORK OR ITS CONSEQUENCES.
If you can live with that, by all means, this is the place to go.

Yesterday I bought some light parts from D&W Lighting Repair. I made a statement to the person that they looked small, they said no they are the correct size… they did not let me see to make sure and charged me $ 7 each. Sure enough they were too small. So I take them back today.
I find the right ones and go up to the person and tell them what happened yesterday. He says ok fine, thank you. I said you owe me $ 3 per each one. He says no, they over charged you yesterday, the cardboard ones are $ 4 and the plastic ones are $ 7. I had to tell him 3 times that the plastic ones were only $ 4 and then took him to the display where the price was labeled $ 4. He then told me they do not give refunds… I said you over charged me yesterday. He gave me the refund. I will be looking for other places to get my lamp repairs and parts from now on.

i brought in a lamp i’d bought at an estate sale that had no shade, was really old, had a broken side panel, was extremely dusty, and had an old power cord. i needed help. my sister referred me to these guys, so in i went!
the people working there were super nice, friendly and attentive. they worked with me on getting the lamp up and working: they asked me what i wanted to have done with it, they gave me recommendations on lampshades and the things that go on top to hold the lampshades in place. loved all the help because i know absolutely nothing about lamps.
they had originally quoted me 2 – 3 weeks to get the lamp done, which was fine by me. no rush. it’s a lamp for god’s sakes! however i got a pleasant surprise via a phone call from them only a few days after i dropped it off… the lamp was ready!!! WHAT!
i picked it up and took it home and it looks fabulous. thanks to their help picking out a lampshade, the most important part of all. the lamp has the look i wanted all along: midcentury modern badassery.
what’s there not to like? it’s a local business, they’ve got a huge inventory of lamps and lampshades and accessories, they do repairs on lamps, and they are very sweet, friendly and professional. i’m definitely a regular!

Amazing selection of lampshades. Took two inexpensive lamps in. The clerk selected several high quality shades to try and now my lamps look terrific! They also have lots of vintage lamps and chandeliers. The ladies there are very kind and helpful!

First of all let me start by saying that Anna gave the best customer service… We brought in two chicken coop lights and a board and wanted a pendant light made for over our farm table. Tim did such a great job helping design it with what we had in mind. just awesome. I recommend this place highly… If nothing else, go in and check out the retro and vintage shades and lighting they have… thank you all again, especially Anna and Tim…

I am so disappointed in my experience with D &W that I wanted to make sure others are aware to ask lots of questions before asking for custom work. Apparently I did not ask enough questions. In late August I took a floor table lamp in to make some changes. The lamp had 3 lights on a 3 way switch and I wanted 2 of them to become directional with gooseneck arms. It was well into September when I checked on the status and nothing had been done. They did not seem to have a clear picture of what I wanted and never bothered to call and ask. I was assured they would get right on it now that they understood I was also assured that this was an easy, quick, inexpensive fix. I called back three additional times to check status waiting several weeks in between calls and each time I was given a new excuse. It is now the middle of November and I have my lamp back but they removed the 3 way switch. One of the previous times that I called I was told they were waiting on a new 3 way switch. In addition, there was a glass shade that was on the lamp that was not returned. I never gave them permission to keep the glass. Before taking my lamp back I called to ask why there was not a 3 way switch and was rudely told to just bring it back in. I have also left a phone message asking for an explanation and they have never returned my call. Apparently I paid $ 90 to have 2 new sockets and my original 3 way switch removed but the switch was never to be removed. If you decide to have D&W work on your lamp make sure you have a firm price and exact description and time frame. They are very polite in the store so I felt I could trust them on their word but my advise is to get everything in writing!!! Better yet, if you want quality custom work done at a reasonable price, and in a timely manner go to Tipler’s.

We bought a gorgeous mid-​century light fixture from Uncommon Objects for a steal of a price. Then we realized it needed to be completely rewired. Everyone said to take it to the guy at Breed & Co, but the guy at Breed & Co so we needed to take it here. He was dead on. The rewiring took longer than anticipated, but they did it well AND fixed the pulley system on the fixture. All in all, we made out like bandits and still spent less than half of what we would’ve on a brand new low end fixture from a big box store.

First, please be aware that D&W has a lamp/​shade shop that is outstanding. However going to the repair shop only leads to disappointment and an empty pocketbook.
I took a lamp to have it fixed as a nut was stripped and I could not remove it. I was told it would be $ 15 to fix and $ 20 to fix if it needed to be rewired. As the lamp had only been rewired initially because it needed a longer cord it did not need rewiring. I was told it would take a week to complete it.
I got a call two days later. When I went to pick it up, I was charged the $ 20. I told the gentleman that it didn’t need to be rewired and he said he didn’t rewire; however, the previous cord was clear and very durable; it now has a green soft plastic cord. Once I got it out of the shop, I could tell they hadn’t even bothered to dust it. And the socket is now chipped and discolored.
I only give this business 2 stars because the store on the east side of Burnet is very good; the repair shop on the west side of Burnet is a scam.

I walked in to D&W with two lamps and thought it was going to take a long time to find the shades I needed. Nope! Amber ran all over the store and found some great shades and I was out of there in less than 45 minutes. Only a couple of people went in and out while I was there so I can’t speak to what the experience would be like with a crowd, but I am very pleased with the helpful customer service I received.
I could’ve gone to a big box store and bought a couple of ill-​fitting shades for cheaper, but if you need a specific shade to go with a non-​standard size lamp then D&W is your place. You’ll pay more but you’re getting good quality shades (mine are made in the USA) and great service.

I took in an antique chandelier and replacement chain, asked for 2′ to be added to the chain length. I was told it would be 4 days and $ 30, and they would call when it’s done. Great, right? I called them on day 5: not done, would call with new estimate. Called again, as they didn’t call back, told it would be done on day 7, and they would call. Called on day 8, told it wasn’t done. Then they called back and said it was done and I was supposed to pick it up yesterday. Points lost for communication and overcommitment.
When I pick it up, they say it’s $ 45 and always has been. And they wanted to charge me for the chain I brought them. Points lost for poor organization, and maybe lying.
As I’m leaving I realize they removed and didn’t replace the bulbs, and the hanger I bent up to hold it in the car is gone. When I go in to ask about bulbs, the guy wants to make a call to find out more. Went next door for bulbs, tired of arguing the point.
When I get home, it gets worse. Instead of adding 2′, they added all the chain I gave them. Now I have to shorten it. And the nut at the base of the stem has been replaced with a cheap looking black part. Worst of all, the main part of the chandelier looks like it’s cross-​threaded onto the stem, so now it’s tilted pretty severely. I’m worried about taking it apart again as crossed threads rarely go back in straight. Bending it seems like an even worse idea.
This was, I thought, an easy job that I could ask someone else to do for me and save myself some time. Quite the opposite. Fixing what they did will be harder than doing it myself the first time.

This place is super cool! I’m so glad to know it’s in the neighborhood.
I have a really interesting lamp and the shade was damaged in a move a few years ago. I tried to find an appropriate fix at Lowe’s, Target, Home Depot and the like but there was nothing that looked modern or remotely high end.
I took the lamp into the D&W Showroom and voila — an awesome shade, a new harp to make the lamp taller and a different lamp finial to pull it all together. The lamp looks like new again, or maybe even better than when it was new!
The cool thing about this place is that they make lamps out of almost anything from almost any time period so there are so many cool and interesting choices that are truly unique. I wish I knew about D&W when I redid my home a few years ago. I’ll definitely be stopping by for my next few design projects.

Just stopped in and realized I didn’t have enough time to check out all they had. I was so impressed with the wide selection and different styles of lighting.
I was shopping for an entry light for my son’s new house, but found so many choices that I can’t wait to re-​do my own entry light. It is 22 years old and so outdated — I am ready for a change. And now I am pretty sure what I want.
The boxes have the same old thing, but for something interesting and unique D&W Lighting will do the job.
I was able to take some pictures of my favorites — so once I finish up my other home projects, I will be back. Thanks!

No selection of lamp shades, nobody to help — not even a hello. Bummer…

I give three for my previous good experiences with this shop. Good, competent employees. Lots of help, good parts.
Today was a mess. After navigating the door with my delicate glass shade in a box without being offered help, I had to wait for the woman at the counter to communicate her friend’s phone number to whoever she was chatting with. Yeah, maybe it wasn’t but it sounded like a personal call.
So I finally got to talk to her. I need a fairly basic and well known part for a vintage hanging glass shade. I get that she had no idea what I was talking about, but she just sort of made stuff up and blew me off. Suggested having a custom piece made (which wasn’t even in the realm of necessary). No help at all. I would have been ok with her asking someone else, with telling me she didn’t know, with telling me she’d get back to me. But it was like she’d never seen a lamp before and didn’t care if I got my part or not.
I’m sorry I interrupted her conversation with her buddy.

I mourned the loss of The Lamp Shoppe for about as long as it took me to drive to D&W Lighting. Then, lampshade bliss hit me at the door.
Angie was wonderful as she tirelessly pulled out shades for me to review on my solid burled walnut lamp base. Carved from a walnut tree by my great uncle in Corpus Christi, this lamp had to look perfect in our game room. (Don’t ask me where he found a walnut tree in Corpus, but that’s the story.)
Finally, both our eyes locked onto a rusty tone hide lampshade. I thought: «Oh, God, stop me now before I spend my car payment on a lampshade!» The shade looked stunning!
I know what you are thinking, they will now repossess my car. But who cares? I can proudly walk the neighborhood carrying my beautiful burled wood lamp with said hide shade for everyone to admire.

This Allandale location is considerably smaller than the N Lamar location, but still manages to pack quite a bit into such a small place. The gruff older guy who appears to run the place chatted with us at length about our various lamp projects, then directed me to N Lamar to have a custom lampshade made, as the best lady to discuss it with works there (I have a review detailing that experience as well for those interested).
So while this location didn’t meet our needs, we appreciated the time the shopkeep spent discussing our options with us. He also offered a fair analysis of what our options were for replacing a lamp cord and lampshades, even going so far as to suggest materials that might work for making a homemade lampshade, like Japanese rice paper, and where I could find it. I was very impressed with his knowledge and appreciative of his input.

My wife bought an antique light, and I couldn’t figure out what kind of bulb fit in there. I took the lamp here, and the lady immediately knew that the lamp was from Europe and I needed a little adapter so I could fit a standard American bulb. I also picked up a nice bracket to put it into the ceiling. When I left to go next door to get a bulb at the Light Bulb Shop, I guess I dropped the bracket out of my bag. The lady came over with the bracket and gave it to me.
